What the numbers mean

UCLA received 146,692 first-year applications for fall 2026. Its admit rate rose to 10.8% for fall 2026 after three years between 8.7% and 9.4%; the rise came from more admits (15,903, against 13,659 a year earlier), not fewer applicants.

Where you apply inside UCLA matters more than any single number. Applicants choose a school: The College admitted 11% for fall 2025, the Samueli School of Engineering 6.8%, Theater, Film and Television 4.3% and Nursing 0.5%. In Samueli each major is reviewed separately, so Computer Science (7.3% for fall 2025, 4.1% for fall 2024) has a real, published rate. In The College UCLA says the applicant's major is not considered, so Psychology and Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) do not have their own first-year rates; both sit in the Life Sciences division, which admitted 11%.

Transfer students are admitted at more than twice the first-year rate (22.2% for fall 2026) and are reviewed by major. For fall 2025 UCLA admitted 21% of pre-psychology transfer applicants, 30% for MCDB and 5% for Computer Science.

Like every UC campus, UCLA uses comprehensive review and does not consider SAT or ACT scores. The middle half of fall 2026 admits had a high school GPA of 4.20–4.30 on UC's scale. International students made up 9% of the fall 2025 entering class; UCLA does not publish a separate international admit rate in its profiles. International applicants must meet UC's English language proficiency requirement; see the TOEFL and IELTS minimums below.
