UCL Acceptance Rate: Admissions Statistics and English Requirements
UCL made offers to 43.4% of undergraduate applicants for 2025 entry (38,696 offers from 89,239 applications, summed from its published faculty figures), but had about 9,100 places, roughly one for every ten applications.
UCL publishes applications, offers and places for every department each UCAS cycle. It does not publish a university total, so the yearly figures below are the sum of its faculty totals; the acceptance rate is offers divided by applications, the same measure we use for Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial.

What the numbers mean
UCL's offer rate looks high next to Oxford and Cambridge because UCAS applicants can hold up to five choices and many decline UCL. In 2025 UCL made 38,696 offers for about 9,100 places (UCL itself describes the year as around 89,000 applications for approximately 9,000 places, excluding Clearing). Places divided by applications, about 10%, is a better guide to how competitive a course is.
Competition varies sharply by department. For 2025 entry Statistical Sciences made 847 offers from 4,683 applications (18.1%) and the Faculty of Laws 637 from 4,552 (14.0%), while the Faculty of Arts and Humanities made 5,946 offers from 9,002 applications (66.1%).
UCL considers applications in a gathered field, waiting until it has enough comparable applications received by the UCAS deadline before deciding. Some courses add a selection task, test or interview. UCL does not publish its application data by domicile or fee status, so there is no official UCL acceptance rate for international students.

What is the UCL acceptance rate?
For 2025 entry UCL's departments received 89,239 applications and made 38,696 offers, an offer rate of 43.4% (our sum of UCL's published faculty figures). They had 9,138 places, about 10.2% of applications. For 2024 entry the offer rate was 33.7% (26,253 offers from 77,828 applications).
What is UCL's acceptance rate for international students?
UCL does not publish one. Its application data is broken down by department, not by domicile or fee status, so any international acceptance rate you see elsewhere is an estimate rather than a UCL figure.
What is the UCL Law acceptance rate?
The Faculty of Laws received 4,552 applications for 2025 entry and made 637 offers (14.0%) for 200 places, about 22.8 applications per place. For 2024 entry it made 590 offers from 4,577 applications (12.9%).
Why is UCL's acceptance rate higher than Oxford's or Cambridge's?
Oxford and Cambridge interview most shortlisted applicants and you can only apply to one of them each year, so their applicant pools are smaller and offers track places closely. UCL is one of up to five UCAS choices and makes many more offers than it has places: 38,696 offers for 9,138 places in 2025. Compared on places per application, UCL (about 10%) is close to Oxford's admitted rate (14.2%).
What IELTS or TOEFL score does UCL require?
Each UCL programme sets one of five English levels. Level 1 needs IELTS Academic 6.5 with 6.0 in each component, or TOEFL iBT 4.5 overall with 4.0 in each section (tests from 21 January 2026). Level 4, which UCL's LLB Law uses, needs IELTS 7.5 with 7.0 in each component, or TOEFL 5.5 overall with 5.0 in each section. Check the level on your programme page.
