Trinity College Dublin Acceptance Rate: Admissions Statistics and English Requirements

Trinity College Dublin does not publish an acceptance rate. Through the Irish CAO system it made 3,976 Round 1 offers for 2026 entry; for 2025 it made 4,059 Round 1 offers, when 23,548 CAO applicants listed a Trinity course and 11,233 put Trinity first.

Most Irish and EU applicants apply to Trinity through the Central Applications Office (CAO), listing courses at several institutions in order of preference, and places are allocated by CAO points. Trinity publishes how many CAO applicants chose its courses, how many offers it makes in Round 1 and the minimum points for each course — but not an acceptance rate, and no figures for non-EU applicants, who apply to Trinity directly. This page shows what Trinity publishes and what each number means.

What the numbers mean

Dividing Trinity's offers by its applicants does not give an acceptance rate. A CAO applicant can list up to ten Level 8 courses at different institutions, so the 23,548 people who listed a Trinity course in 2025 include many who preferred, and accepted, a place elsewhere. Round 1 offers are also only the first round: further offers follow in later rounds, and Trinity does not publish its total offers or acceptances.

CAO places go to the applicants with the most points, so the meaningful measure of selectivity is each course's minimum entry points. In 2026 Round 1, Medicine (TR051) needed 741 points including the HPAT test, Management Science and Information Systems Studies 625, Global Business 601, Mathematics 601, Law 578, Business, Economic and Social Studies 567 and Computer Science 519. For courses marked R, such as Medicine, Law and Global Business, not every applicant on the minimum points received an offer.

Non-EU applicants, including students from the US, China and India, apply to Trinity directly through its online application rather than through the CAO, and are assessed on their own qualifications. Trinity does not publish how many non-EU applications it receives or how many offers it makes, so there is no official international acceptance rate; figures quoted elsewhere are not Trinity's.

FAQ

What is the Trinity College Dublin acceptance rate?

Trinity does not publish one. It publishes CAO figures instead: for 2025 entry, 23,548 CAO applicants listed a Trinity course, 11,233 put Trinity first and Trinity made 4,059 Round 1 offers. For 2026 it made 3,976 Round 1 offers. Because CAO applicants list courses at several institutions and offers continue after Round 1, these numbers cannot be turned into an acceptance rate.

What is the Trinity College Dublin acceptance rate for international students?
