What the numbers mean

Georgetown's first-year acceptance rate was 13.5% for fall 2025 (3,618 of 26,822), 12.9% for fall 2024 (3,374 of 26,131) and 13.1% for fall 2023 (3,334 of 25,485). Applications rose by about 1,300 over the three years while the number admitted stayed between roughly 3,300 and 3,600, so the rate has held near 13%. The CDS reports Georgetown as a whole; it does not give separate rates for the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Foreign Service, the McDonough School of Business or the other undergraduate schools.

Georgetown has no early decision plan. It runs a restrictive early action plan (applications close 1 November, decisions 15 December), which its 2025-26 CDS describes as non-binding but limiting applications to other early plans. It does not report how many early action applicants it admits, so no early-round rate is published. Wait-list admissions vary: 356 students were admitted from the wait list for fall 2025, against 163 for fall 2024 and 93 for fall 2023.

International applicants are admitted at a lower rate than US applicants: 8.3% for fall 2025 (326 of 3,926), compared with 14.3% for out-of-state US applicants. The international rate was 7.7% for fall 2024 and 8.0% for fall 2023. Transfer admission swings from year to year, from 5.9% for fall 2024 to 11.1% for fall 2025.

Georgetown sets no minimum TOEFL or IELTS score for undergraduate admission. It recommends, but does not require, an English proficiency test for students whose school does not teach in English, and accepts the Duolingo English Test, IELTS or TOEFL for this. It does require SAT or ACT scores from all applicants, including international students. Graduate programs do set minimums: TOEFL 80 or 100 on the original scale, or 4 or 5 on the 1–6 scale, and IELTS 7.0 or 7.5, depending on the program.
