What the numbers mean

Notre Dame's first-year acceptance rate was 9.4% for fall 2025 (3,320 of 35,401), 11.3% for fall 2024 (3,374 of 29,942) and 12.4% for fall 2023 (3,510 of 28,353). The fall is driven by applications: they rose by 5,459 between fall 2024 and fall 2025, while the number admitted fell by 54.

Notre Dame has no early decision plan; all three editions answer No. It has an early action round closing on 1 November, which its 2025-26 Common Data Set describes as restrictive (applicants are limited in applying to other early plans), but it does not report early action applicant or admit counts. Few students are admitted from the wait list: 54 of the 1,475 who accepted a place for fall 2025 (3.7%), 42 of 1,385 for fall 2024 and 90 of 1,811 for fall 2023.

International applications more than doubled in two years, from 3,301 for fall 2023 to 6,784 for fall 2025, while international admits stayed between 264 and 292. The international acceptance rate therefore fell from 8.8% to 6.7% to 4.2%. For fall 2025, Indiana residents and applicants from other US states were both admitted at 10.6%.

Notre Dame says it strongly recommends a TOEFL iBT score of 5.5 average with no section below 5.0 on the updated scoring system, or 100 overall with at least 25 in Speaking on the pre-February 2026 scoring system, and an IELTS composite of 7.5. English testing is required when an applicant's first language is not English or their secondary education was not mainly in English; it is waived for applicants with 650 or more in SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, or 26 or more in ACT English or Reading.
