What the numbers mean

UChicago's acceptance rate has been 4.8%, 4.5% and 4.5% for fall 2023, 2024 and 2025. Applications rose from 38,631 to 45,533 over those cycles, and admits rose from 1,849 to 2,039. The Common Data Set reports applicants and admits by gender, with a separate unknown-gender line, so the totals above are the sums of those lines.

UChicago does not publish several figures other universities do. The Early Decision lines, the wait-list lines and the residency table (in-state, out-of-state, international) are blank in all three editions we read, so this page gives no Early Decision, wait-list or international acceptance rate and no yield. Any such figure elsewhere is an estimate, not a UChicago-published number.

Transfer admission has become less selective: 7.9% of transfer applicants were admitted for fall 2023 (144 of 1,821), 9.3% for fall 2024 (268 of 2,884) and 11.8% for fall 2025 (380 of 3,231).

UChicago's international applicants apply the same way as everyone else. The College invites applicants to submit scores from any English proficiency exam they think represents their ability, and says you do not need formal scores if your application already shows mastery of English. Self-reported scores are accepted until you are admitted and choose to enroll, and UChicago does not offer an ESL program for admitted students. No minimum score is listed for first-year applicants.
