Early Decision is binding. BU reported 31.3% admitted for fall 2025 (2,165 of 6,907), 28.2% for fall 2024 (1,936 of 6,854) and 26.1% for fall 2023 (1,791 of 6,866), roughly two and a half times the overall rate. The Common Data Set reports one early decision figure per year and its notes describe two early decision rounds, so the figures are not split by round. BU does not offer early action.

BU's wait list is large but rarely used: 479 students were admitted from it for fall 2025 (4.6% of the 10,393 who accepted a place), after 18 for fall 2024 and 34 for fall 2023. By residency, fall 2025 admit rates were 13.3% for Massachusetts residents (1,075 of 8,059), 11.6% for out-of-state US applicants (5,908 of 50,764) and 16.0% for international applicants (2,521 of 15,794). The Common Data Set also lists 2,159 applicants of unknown residency, not shown here.

BU lists the competitive TOEFL range as a composite of 90–100 with at least 20 in each section, and 5.0 or higher for score reports issued from 21 January 2026; IELTS 7 satisfies the requirement for all programs; and competitive Duolingo scores are 125–135. These are stated as competitive ranges, not minimums, apart from the IELTS 7. Waivers are at the Board of Admissions' discretion.
