Doctor Gupta

When students are preparing to graduate from university, they need to make decisions about what kind of company they want to work for. They might consider large, older companies with an established reputation, or possibly new start-up companies, which tend to be small but very focused on the future. Consider the advantages of each. Would it generally be better for a new university graduate to begin working for a large, established company, or for a small start-up company? Why?

Kelly

I think in general, the established company is the better choice. Because they’re already well-known, these companies have a certain amount of respect in the business community, so it would look good to have that job experience on your résumé. That advantage alone would be a great start for a recent graduate.

Andrew

I see your point, Kelly, but taking a position at a start-up company would offer so much excitement. They often have an energy that older companies can’t match—everyone can be focused on new, innovative business practices and they would be more aggressive about getting new clients. That would be a much better experience for someone fresh out of university!

Section Title: 6 Article Revision

In my opinion, a small start-up company offers more advantages for a recent university graduate compared to a large, established organization. One of the main reasons is that established companies often have a large workforce, which could limit employment opportunities and make it difficult for graduates to secure a position. Additionally, the salary expectations might not align with the graduate's desires due to the company's size and staff expenses.

On the other hand, working for a start-up provides an opportunity to be part of an energetic and innovative environment where employees are driven to acquire new clients and implement cutting-edge business practices. This dynamic atmosphere can be highly beneficial for someone who has just completed their studies. Furthermore, since start-ups usually have smaller teams, there is potential for higher remuneration as well as increased responsibilities.

Another advantage of joining a start-up is the potential for career growth. As the company expands over time, employees who have been with the organization since its inception are likely to be rewarded with promotions and greater responsibilities. This experience can significantly enhance one's professional profile when seeking future employment opportunities.

In conclusion, while both large corporations and small start-ups have their merits, I believe that recent university graduates would benefit more from working in a smaller, innovative environment where they can grow professionally and contribute significantly to the company's success. (231 words)

Kelly presents a compelling argument that graduates should choose the established company. From my perspective, working for a large company not only can benefit from its reputation, but also can be encouraged and promote graduates' ability in a efficient way. It is widely accepted that the established companies have complex and complete training program, estimation as well as reward and punishment systems. Employees would acquire ability improvement in both working professional and personal communicating. Furthermore, the experience in a mature company also looks impressive on a resume and it may help graduates to find their next work more easily in the future. Thus, I am inclined to suggest graduates to work for the established company.

Section Title: Established Companies vs. Start-ups for Graduates

While Kelly's argument in favor of established companies is persuasive, I believe that working for a large organization not only allows graduates to benefit from its reputation but also fosters their professional growth more effectively. Established companies typically offer comprehensive training programs, performance evaluations, and well-structured reward systems. These opportunities enable employees to develop both professionally and interpersonally. Moreover, having experience with a reputable company on one's resume can be advantageous when seeking future employment opportunities. Nowadays, students have to deal with tons of works and struggling with their academic scores. A field trip will definitely provide a chance for them to have a break and enjoy the relax atmosphere when they go parking or climbing the mountain together. Besides, some of the activities are meaningful for students who are tired with exams, for example, a concert will provide the enjoyment of music as well as enhancing their acknowledgment of rhythm. In my opinion, new university graduates would benefit more from joining a larger, established company rather than a small start-up. One of the primary reasons is that established companies typically offer comprehensive training programs for inexperienced employees, allowing graduates to efficiently and effectively adapt to the working environment. Furthermore, as Kelly mentioned, having job experience with a well-known company carries a certain prestige and can be advantageous for one's resume. I concur with this perspective, as it also contributes to expanding one's professional network. Established companies often possess extensive networks, providing employees with opportunities to stay updated on industry trends and connect with influential professionals in their field.

Kelly presents a compelling arugment in favor of working in an established company due to the accumulation of experience. Admittedly, it is of significance for graduates to gain experience and fulfil their career goals. However, given the administrative and robotic work in a built-up company, I am inclined to believe that graduates should have a job at a start-up company. In my opinion, taking a position in the start-up company provides graduates with confidence and accomplishement for their innovative products. To be more specific, while jobs in the built-up company are generally structrual, students can apply their knowledge to the field and take into action as soon as possible, which have high posibility to make a difference to the industry and even the whole world.

The essay effectively addresses the task by expressing a clear opinion in favor of working for a large, established company and providing reasons for this choice. However, there is room for improvement in terms of elaborating on the viewpoint and providing more specific examples or details to support the argument. Additionally, some grammar errors and unclear language use are present.

Suggestions for improvement:

  • Provide more specific examples or details to support your argument.

  • Revise grammar errors and improve language use for clarity.

Andrew presents a compelling argument that working at a small start-up company is a better choice because it has more energy. However, considering the more and more competitive job market and the instability of economy in the world, I contend that it is more beneficial for new university graduates to take jobs in old established company. To be more specific, the employment market are full of excellent competitors who come from famous universities or have high academic credentials, and the economy also has been declined for years. Therefore the small start-up companies hardly to cope with the awful trend of economy, such as laking clients, reducing profit or increasing fixed cost, which leads to a higher risk of bankruptcy. Thus, if new university graduates working at established companies, they have no need to worry about their future career due to the stronger ability of large companies in dealing with the whole declining economy. In conclusion, the new university graduate should begin working for a large established company.

Title: 6 文章修订

While Andrew's argument that small start-up companies offer excitement and innovation is persuasive, I maintain that it is more advantageous for new university graduates to seek employment in established companies. The job market has become increasingly competitive, with numerous highly qualified candidates from prestigious institutions vying for positions. Moreover, the global economy has experienced a downturn in recent years, making it difficult for start-ups to navigate challenges such as acquiring clients, maintaining profits, and managing fixed costs. This precarious environment increases the likelihood of bankruptcy and instability for smaller enterprises.

On the other hand, large established companies possess greater resilience in weathering economic fluctuations and ensuring job security for their employees. By joining such organizations, new graduates can alleviate concerns about their future career prospects while benefiting from the respect and recognition associated with working for a reputable company. Revised Essay:

In my opinion, I agree with Kelly's preference for joining an established company over a start-up. Firstly, established companies have typically weathered competitive challenges and developed a more mature system, providing employees with stability and security. This is particularly beneficial for recent graduates who may be concerned about job stability in the face of potential bankruptcy. Furthermore, entering an established company offers the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues, which can significantly contribute to the professional growth of new employees. By observing and engaging with seasoned professionals, graduates can accelerate their career development and gain valuable insights into their chosen field. Therefore, I believe that recent graduates should consider working for large, established companies due to the advantages they present in terms of stability and professional growth opportunities. For instance, I once worked at a start-up with only a handful of employees and a single boss. The lack of rigid rules allowed us to determine our own schedules, resulting in well-rested and more efficient workers.

On the other hand, some may argue that large companies offer greater stability for new graduates. While this may be true in certain cases, I believe that gaining practical experience and training is more valuable for recent university graduates than simply seeking stability. Start-ups provide an energetic atmosphere where innovation thrives, offering an invaluable learning experience for those entering the workforce.

In my opinion, I believe that working at a small start-up company offers more advantages for a recent graduate than joining an established company.

Firstly, as Andrew mentioned, small start-ups tend to provide employees with more excitement and opportunities for innovation. In such an environment, recent graduates have the flexibility to showcase their potential and unique abilities. For instance, when attempting to acquire new clients, they may utilize non-traditional methods such as social media outreach instead of investing in conventional advertisements. This approach allows them to gain fresh experiences and develop valuable skills.

Furthermore, I contend that working in a start-up company presents greater opportunities for career advancement. In my opinion, I lean towards the notion that joining an established company is a more advantageous choice for recent university graduates. Firstly, as Kelly mentioned, a well-established company can provide a significant amount of prestige to a new graduate. These companies not only offer competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits but also value individual contributions. Furthermore, the stimulating work environment in such organizations can encourage graduates to broaden their knowledge and hone their skills.

On the other hand, while it is true that start-up companies may offer an exciting atmosphere, it is crucial for recent graduates to focus on gaining practical experience and securing stable positions in their early careers rather than solely seeking enjoyment. A more relaxed environment might not necessarily facilitate professional growth and long-term success.

In conclusion, although both established companies and start-ups have their merits, I believe that the former provides a more solid foundation for new graduates to build upon. The prestige, resources, and structured environment offered by established companies are essential factors in nurturing the professional development of recent university graduates. (180 words)

In response to Dr. Gupta's question, I firmly believe that new graduates should begin their careers in small start-up companies. Firstly, working in a start-up environment can significantly enhance an individual's time management and leadership skills. For example, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, initially worked at a small start-up called Zip2. Through demonstrating his exceptional computer science skills, he gained the support of numerous admirers who later helped him establish his own companies. Secondly, while working for a large corporation may indeed bolster a graduate's résumé, joining a start-up can more effectively showcase one's unique strengths and abilities. Large organizations such as Google or OpenAI are filled with highly skilled employees who excel in various fields; some even possess the potential to launch their own businesses. In such competitive environments, it can be challenging for recent graduates to capture the attention of others and distinguish themselves from their accomplished peers. On the other hand, by following in the footsteps of successful entrepreneurs like Bill Gates or Walt Disney and starting their careers at smaller companies, young professionals have the opportunity to garner recognition and lay the foundation for future success. Ultimately, this approach can pave the way for them to establish their own enterprises and lead fulfilling lives.

2. Estimated Scores:

Estimated Score: 28

3. Task completeness:

The essay effectively addresses the task requirements by expressing a clear opinion on the topic and providing relevant examples to support the viewpoint. The response also contributes to the academic discussion by presenting unique ideas in a well-organized manner. However, there is room for improvement in terms of elaborating on certain points and providing more specific details.

Suggestions for improvement:

  • Provide more concrete examples or statistics to support your argument.

  • Expand on your points by discussing potential drawbacks or challenges associated with working in start-ups.

Examples:

  1. "For example, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, initially worked at a small start-up called Zip2." -> "For example, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, initially worked at a small start-up called Zip2, where he developed innovative software solutions that were eventually acquired by Compaq for nearly $300 million."
  2. "Ultimately, this approach can pave the way for them to establish their own enterprises and lead fulfilling lives." -> "Ultimately, this approach can pave the way for them to establish their own enterprises and lead fulfilling lives, although they may face challenges such as limited resources or financial instability during their initial career stages."

4. Essay structure and organization:

The essay has a clear structure with an introduction, body paragraphs focusing on specific points with supporting details, and a conclusion. The organization is logical, with each paragraph discussing one main idea. However, transitions between ideas could be improved to enhance overall coherence.

Suggestions for improvement:

  • Use transition words or phrases to connect ideas more smoothly.

  • Ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that introduces its main point.

Examples:

  1. Instead of starting the second paragraph with "Secondly," use a transition phrase like "In addition to enhancing skills," to create a smoother connection between the first and second paragraphs.
  2. Revise the topic sentence of the third paragraph to more clearly introduce its main point: "While large corporations may offer certain advantages, pursuing opportunities at smaller companies can provide young professionals with unique benefits and experiences."

5. Grammar

In response to Professor Gupta's inquiry, I am convinced that recent graduates should commence their professional journeys in small start-up companies. First and foremost, the start-up environment can substantially improve an individual's time management and leadership skills. For instance, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, began his career at a modest start-up called Zip2. By showcasing his exceptional computer science abilities, he attracted numerous supporters who later assisted him in founding his own enterprises.

Secondly, although working for a large corporation may indeed enhance a graduate's résumé, participating in a start-up can more effectively highlight one's distinct talents and capabilities.
