This week, we will be looking at how consumers feel about their purchases of technology. Many people find that buying devices such as mobile phones or personal computers can be very difficult. They feel like they're not prepared to make the best decision to suit their needs. In your posts, I want you to discuss the following question: What do you believe is the biggest mistake that people make when buying tech products? Explain what this mistake is.
Claire
I think one problem is that people don't match the product's capabilities to their actual needs. My brother just got a new mobile phone, and he is very excited about how highly rated the camera is. But he hardly ever takes photos. So he paid for a feature that he doesn't really need.
Paul
When people buy a new piece of hardware, like a laptop, they often don't consider the software they are purchasing along with the hardware. If the software is not what you are used to or doesn't work with your existing files, it can be frustrating to learn a new way of using your laptop.

Nowadays, people cannot live without tech products. However, they often make some mistakes when pursuing technological devices. And in my opinion, the biggest mistake consumers make is using the price of products as the standard for judging their quality. That’s to say, people always consider that the tech products with higher price have better quality. However, although some tech products are expensive, their quality is not so good as consumers expect. And some less expensive tech products also offer a long working life, such as Nokia’s phones. Additionally, the high price of the products is also related to the company’s established brand image and sophisticated marketing strategies. Some companies resort to exaggerated advertising to captivate consumers, leading them to mistakenly equate high prices with superior quality. All in all, if consumers pay too much attention to the prices of tech products, they may ignore other important factors and they may not find the one they truly need. So, I think that’s the biggest problem.

In today's fast-paced world, technology has become an integral part of our lives. Nevertheless, when purchasing tech products, consumers often commit errors that prevent them from making the most suitable choices. In my view, the most significant mistake lies in equating a product's price with its quality. A common misconception is that higher-priced items guarantee superior performance and longevity. However, this is not always the case, as some expensive products may not live up to expectations, while more affordable options can provide exceptional durability and functionality, such as Nokia phones.
Moreover, it is essential to recognize that a product's price may be influenced by factors beyond its intrinsic value, such as a company's brand image and marketing strategies. Some businesses employ persuasive advertising techniques to create an illusion of exclusivity and quality associated with their high-priced offerings. Consequently, consumers who focus solely on price might overlook other crucial aspects when selecting tech products and ultimately fail to find the best match for their needs. Therefore, it is imperative for individuals to consider a wide range of factors beyond pricing in order to make well-informed decisions regarding technology purchases. (193 words)

3. Task Completeness
The essay does a good job of addressing the task requirements, expressing a clear opinion, and contributing to the discussion. However, there is room for improvement in terms of elaborating on the viewpoint and providing more specific examples to support the argument.
Suggestions for improvement:
-
Provide more detailed examples to support your opinion.
-
Explain how the mismatch between product capabilities and actual needs can lead to dissatisfaction or wasted resources.
Examples:
- "For instance, a student who only needs a basic laptop for word processing might end up buying an expensive gaming laptop due to its attractive design, ultimately spending more money than necessary."
- "Another example is when someone buys a high-end smartphone with numerous features they never use, leading to wasted resources and potentially causing them to miss out on other devices that better suit their needs."
4. Essay Structure and Organization
The essay has a clear structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, it could benefit from clearer transitions between ideas and paragraphs.
Suggestions for improvement:
-
Use transition words or phrases to connect ideas more smoothly.
-
Ensure each paragraph focuses on one main point with supporting details.
Examples:
- "Firstly, buying tech products is a complex decision that involves many factors to consider. As a result, people often miss out on their most important needs when making decisions."
- "Moreover, misleading advertisements can also contribute to consumers making mistakes in purchasing tech products by conveying incorrect information about product features."

Title: 6 Revised Essay
While Paul argues that overlooking software considerations leads to mistakes in purchasing technology, I agree with Claire's assertion that the most significant error people make when buying tech products is failing to align the product's capabilities with their actual needs.
Firstly, purchasing tech products involves a complex decision-making process that requires considering numerous factors. Consequently, people often overlook their most pressing needs when making decisions. For instance, my parents bought a phone with an attractive appearance and advanced operating system. However, their primary goal was to purchase a phone with an extensive battery life. In the end, it turned out that the stylish new phone had subpar battery capacity.
Furthermore, misleading advertisements can contribute to consumers making ill-informed decisions. These ads convey inaccurate information to customers, leading them to believe they are making the right choice. For example, some phone manufacturers claim that their products are waterproof. However, these devices may only be water-resistant for a limited duration or under specific conditions, such as being submerged for less than five minutes or within three meters of water depth. In my opinion, the biggest mistake that consumers make is that they like to take the price of the products as the standard to judge the quality of the products. That’s to say, the more expensive the tech product is, the better it is perceived. However, although some tech products are expensive, their quality are not so good as consumers expect. For example, my sister bought an expensive phone last year. But her phone broke down in less than a year. In contrast, my phone is cheaper than hers and I have used my phone for three years. Even today, my phone still runs smoothly and has a long battery life. So, the high prices of tech products do not necessarily equate to high quality. And I think that’s the biggest problem that consumers make when buying tech products.

In my perspective, the most significant error consumers commit when purchasing tech products is using price as the primary criterion for determining product quality. This mindset leads to the assumption that higher-priced items inherently possess superior features and performance. However, this is not always the case, as some expensive products may not meet consumers' expectations in terms of quality. For instance, my sister purchased a costly phone last year, which malfunctioned within a year. Conversely, my more affordable phone has been functioning seamlessly for three years with impressive battery life. Thus, high prices do not guarantee exceptional quality in tech products, and this misconception constitutes the primary issue consumers face when making such purchases. (119 words)

Claire raises a compelling point that purchasing digital assets blindly could be a major problem, and that's the idea I would concur. Indeed, people nowadays purchase tech product without even noticing what they are actually buying. Take students for example, universities often require students to obtain computers or laptops in order to finish their assignments or essays. However, students who have never been around these kinds of technologies before have the tendency to spend money on high-end computers that they don't really in need of. It goes without saying that every student would want the best computer there is to support their study, so they would turn to the most pricey ones. However, on the essay-writing wise, computers with outstanding CPUs would be significantly beneficial for them, and the pricey ones on the market are often equipped with high standard GPUs, which is the hardware they would never need if they want solely to write essays, thus spending extra money on a product they do not require instead of the product they are really in need of. In all, I would say the biggest mistake is not knowing what you are buying.

Title: 6 文章修订
One significant issue that Claire highlights is the lack of consideration for matching a product's capabilities to the consumer's actual needs, which I wholeheartedly agree with. It is evident that many individuals nowadays purchase tech products without fully understanding their features and how they align with their requirements. For instance, universities often mandate students to acquire computers or laptops to complete assignments and essays. However, students who are unfamiliar with these technologies may be inclined to invest in high-end devices that exceed their actual needs.
Undoubtedly, every student desires the best computer to support their studies, leading them to opt for the most expensive ones. Nevertheless, when it comes to essay writing, a computer with an exceptional CPU would be more advantageous for them. On the other hand, costly devices on the market often come equipped with high-standard GPUs - hardware that would be unnecessary for those who solely wish to write essays. Consequently, these individuals end up spending extra money on products they do not require instead of focusing on what truly meets their needs. In summary, I believe that the biggest mistake consumers make when purchasing tech products is not thoroughly understanding what they are buying and how it aligns with their specific requirements. It is evident that many individuals nowadays purchase tech product products without even noticing what fully understanding their features and how they are actually buying. Take students for example, align with their requirements (rephrased for clarity). For instance, universities often require mandate students to obtain acquire computers or laptops in order to finish their to complete assignments or and essays. However, students who have never been around are unfamiliar with these kinds of technologies before have the tendency to spend money on may be inclined to invest in high-end computers that they don't really in need of. It goes without saying that devices that exceed their actual needs (rephrased for better flow).
Undoubtedly, every student would want desires the best computer there is to support their study, so they would turn to studies, leading them to opt for the most pricey ones. However, on the essay-writing wise, computers with outstanding CPUs expensive ones (rephrased for conciseness). Nevertheless, when it comes to essay writing, a computer with an exceptional CPU would be significantly beneficial for them, and the pricey ones more advantageous for them (revised for clarity). On the other hand, costly devices on the market are often come equipped with high standard GPUs, which is the high-standard GPUs - hardware they that would never need if they want be unnecessary for those who solely wish to write essays, thus essays (rephrased for better flow). Consequently, these individuals end up spending extra money on a product products they do not require instead of the product focusing on what truly meets their needs (revised for emphasis). In summary, I believe that the biggest mistake consumers make when purchasing tech products is not thoroughly understanding what they are really in need of. ¶ In all, I would say the biggest mistake is not knowing what you are buying.buying and how it aligns with their specific requirements (rephrased to emphasize main point).
