題型概述

Professor Dr. Achebe

Companies now make computer games designed to help very young children learn. The games are advertised for use by children aged 2 to 8 years and often involve basic math and reading skills, presented in a fun, game-like style. Some people say that this results in children spending too much time looking at computer screens. Do you think it’s a good idea for very young children to play educational computer games? Why or why not?

Student A Andrew

I think it’s completely inappropriate for children as young as 2 years old to play what are essentially video games. Even if the games are educational, the same skills can be taught in traditional ways—by reading books to children, for example. And it would be beneficial to interact with their parents in this way.

Student B Kelly

Considering how important computers are to human societies these days, I think it actually makes sense to allow very young children to explore them. And if the computer games that children play also give them early access to subject matter that will later be taught in school, all the better.

In my opinion, I agree with Andrew's point of view that it's too young for kids aged two to eight years to learn from computers. In addition, I believe that computers will do harm to children's health. Especially these days, children just sit in front of their desk for almost whole day, which has no benefit for their health. In this case, many of them have a backache and it is bad for blood circulation. Their eyesight become so poor because the long time for watching books or screens. In this way, children should not use computers to learn for too long, they should go close to nature to do some sports in order to keep healthy. For example, my classmate refuse using any electric instruments to study, he thinks it is not good for him, but his grade is still better than most of other students. Therefore, it is a better choice for students to be far away with computers.

In my perspective, I concur with Andrew's stance that children between the ages of two and eight should not rely on computers for learning. Furthermore, I contend that excessive computer usage can negatively impact a child's health. Nowadays, many children spend the majority of their day seated in front of screens, which does little to promote their well-being. Consequently, issues such as backaches and poor blood circulation arise, along with deteriorating eyesight due to prolonged screen exposure. Thus, it is crucial for children to limit their computer usage and engage in outdoor activities to maintain a healthy lifestyle. For instance, a classmate of mine refrains from using electronic devices for studying, believing they are detrimental to his well-being; nevertheless, his academic performance surpasses that of many peers. As such, distancing oneself from computers proves to be a more favorable approach for students. (147 words)

Evaluating teachers' job performance should not solely rely on their students' academic achievements or feedback. Teachers' responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks, from answering questions to fostering students' virtues, with test scores representing only a fraction of their work. Additionally, underachieving students who have disengaged from learning and obtained low scores should not necessarily reflect poorly on the teacher. Solely considering students' test performance may result in biased and irresponsible assessments.

Furthermore, teachers employ various methods to support their students, and those with strict guidelines may be misunderstood by their pupils, leading to unwarranted negative feedback. Consequently, student feedback should be approached cautiously. In my opinion, a comprehensive evaluation of teachers should encompass multiple aspects, including reviews from experienced colleagues and carefully considered student input. This holistic approach may enable a fairer assessment of a teacher's performance. (143 words)
