Nowadays, the world is facing a number of pressing environmental problems, and over the next few weeks, we’ll be discussing various innovations that may help solve these problems. To begin our discussion, I’d like you to think of one global environmental problem—for example, it could be related to water, air, land, climate, biodiversity, energy, or something similar. Then explain what you think would be an effective solution to this problem.

One of the major environmental problems is the limited freshwater supply in many areas of the world, which means that we need to find effective technologies to provide people with enough drinking water. One solution is to improve the technology for removing salt from seawater, which could allow us to use seawater to replenish dwindling freshwater supplies.

Paul

I think the biggest problem is the air pollution caused by the overuse of motorized vehicles. The obvious solution is for local governments to promote alternatives, like building bike lanes in cities or improving public transportation with electric buses. Both of these would be easy to implement as well.

Paul's perspective is compelling given that the motorized vehicle definitely are one of primary causes of the air pollution. Secifically, only when the infrastructure effectivrly facilitates individuals to utlize personal bikes and public transportation in daiy life, will they prioritize these environmentally-friendly alternatives over motorized vehicles. First, people tend to select expeditious public transportation instead of individual cars when encountering extensive traffic jam. For example, in most first-tier cities in China, since it is more likely to get stuck on the road during peak time, many pople prefer to take efficient subway instead of driving by themselves, thus reducing the polluted gases emitted by cars. Furthermore, riding bikes or choosing electric buses is more affordable than motorize vihecles over the long term. As for my personal experience, taking electric buses to work enables me to save 150 CNY per month compared to driving on my own and hence helps me gradually form the habit of using eco-friendly public transportation. Therefore, promoting alternatives to decrease the use frequency of motorized vehicles serves to a pivotal way to alleviate the air pollution.

Section Title: Addressing Air Pollution through Sustainable Transportation Alternatives

Paul's perspective is indeed compelling, as motorized vehicles are undeniably one of the primary causes of air pollution. The key to encouraging individuals to utilize environmentally-friendly alternatives, such as personal bikes and public transportation, lies in creating an infrastructure that effectively supports these options in daily life. First, people are more likely to choose efficient public transportation over individual cars when faced with extensive traffic congestion. For instance, in many first-tier cities in China, commuters often prefer taking the subway during peak hours to avoid getting stuck in traffic, consequently reducing the emission of pollutants from cars.

Moreover, opting for bicycles or electric buses proves to be more cost-effective than using motorized vehicles in the long run. Drawing from personal experience, taking electric buses to work has allowed me to save 150 CNY per month compared to driving on my own, which has gradually helped me develop a habit of using eco-friendly public transportation. Therefore, promoting sustainable alternatives to reduce the reliance on motorized vehicles is a crucial strategy for mitigating air pollution. (182 words)

From my perspect of view, one of the most influential environmental problems would be the over exploition of fossil fuels, which not only lead to various kinds of pollution such as air and land pollution, but also result in the over reliance on fossil fuels. To be more specific, fossil fuels are burnt to generate heat and therefore produce energy such as electricity and motion power, the process of which produces some ingredients, such as carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide, leading to air pollution and green house effect. Meanwhile, since fossil fuels are not recycled energy resource, the overuse of fussil fuels has already made it running out gradually, which contribute in the soaring up of price and conflicts among countries arguing for the possession of fossil fuels. Therefore, it is of vital importance for the sustainable development of human beings to develop recycled energy such as wind, solar and tidal energy.

In my opinion, one of the most pressing environmental issues we face today is the overexploitation of fossil fuels. This not only leads to various forms of pollution, such as air and land pollution but also results in an unhealthy dependence on these nonrenewable resources.

To elaborate, fossil fuels are combusted to generate heat, which in turn produces energy in the form of electricity and mechanical power. However, this process releases harmful byproducts like carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere, contributing to air pollution and exacerbating the greenhouse effect.

Furthermore, as fossil fuels are a finite resource, their excessive consumption has led to a steady depletion of reserves. This has resulted in escalating prices and geopolitical conflicts among nations vying for control over these valuable resources.

Given these concerns, it is crucial for the long-term sustainability of our planet that we invest in the development and implementation of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and tidal power. By doing so, we can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels while mitigating their detrimental environmental impacts. (180 words)

As a matter of fact, the biggest problem in the world should be global warming. In my viewpoint, the best way so solve this problem is to plant more trees and promote green life. On one hand, global warming is caused by the green house gas such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, which are the byproduct of industrialization, while the photosyenthesis of trees can help absorb these gases and produce oxygen to reduce the detrimental influence of global warming. On the other hand, promoting green life like taking more public transportation and using more renewable energy instead of finite ones such as fossil fuels can also be beneficial to reduce the generation of green house gases, then promote the preservation of natural habitats of wild animals and plants, increase biodiversity.

In my opinion, I agree with Paul that air pollution should be addressed as soon as possible, since air pollution not only affects living quality, but also impairs our physical and mental health. There are several solutions to this problem, and the most effective one would be to promote the use of new energy cars, which are electronic cars. Compared to the fuel burned by traditional vehicals, the electricity energy used by new energy transportations is so friendly to environment that it produces no harmful waste. Since the government has already given large amount of subsidies to clean energy corporations, more and more people would consider buying them and this would effectively relief air pollution.

In my opinion, I would like to say that one of the crucial environmental problem we face is the overuse of plastics. As widely acknowledged, plastics cannot be recycled and will thus cause great damage to the environment. Some people may argue that it will be convenient to use plastics such as plastic chopsticks and plastic bags, however, these utensils will all detrimental to our ecosystem. According to the National Bureau of Statistics of Britain, almost 67% of the pollution comes from the dealing process of plastics. So how can we make a difference? For instance, we could first form the habit of using recycled items. It isn't difficult since most of us didn't really need to rely on plastics, we just get accustomed with the plastic items. Secondly, we may use more paper-used products and try to avert using single-use bags. Hence, our environment will become better and all of our human beings will benefit from this. To sum up, I wholeheartedly agree with that we should avoid use plastics.

In my perspective, one of the most pressing environmental issues we face today is the excessive use of plastics. It is well-known that plastics are non-recyclable, leading to significant harm to our environment. While some may argue that plastic items such as chopsticks and bags offer convenience, it is crucial to recognize the detrimental impact they have on our ecosystem. A report from the National Bureau of Statistics of Britain reveals that nearly 67% of pollution stems from the processing of plastics.

To combat this issue, we can adopt several strategies. Firstly, we should cultivate a habit of utilizing recycled products. This change does not require significant effort, as our reliance on plastics stems more from habit than necessity. Secondly, we can opt for paper-based alternatives and avoid single-use bags whenever possible. By implementing these measures, we will contribute to improving our environment and ultimately benefit all inhabitants of our planet. Thus, it is imperative that we strive to minimize our use of plastic materials in daily life. (171 words)

In addressing the pressing issue of air pollution, I concur with Paul's assertion that it is indeed a significant environmental concern. The pervasive nature of poor air quality affects numerous countries worldwide, with various factors contributing to this problem, such as an overabundance of motor vehicles, unsustainable agricultural practices, deforestation, and overgrazing. Tackling this multifaceted issue requires not only governmental intervention but also collective action from every inhabitant on our planet.

To mitigate air pollution effectively, several strategies can be employed. Firstly, individuals can opt for public transportation for their daily commutes instead of using personal vehicles, thereby reducing pollutants emitted by cars. Secondly, incorporating more vegetables into our diets and consuming less meat can help alleviate the issue as livestock farming contributes significantly to carbon dioxide emissions and land degradation. Lastly, adopting sustainable lifestyles and making conscious efforts to protect our environment will undoubtedly play a crucial role in combating air pollution and fostering a healthier world for future generations. I hold the firm idea that soil pollution is the crucial problem which means the soil would be polluted by the large quantities of rubbishes not only from the daily life but also from some industries. Since, the pollutions from the rubbishes are likely to leak into the soli when they usually are buried under the soil which can be used to plant human's necessary crops. Specifically, lot of areas in the world would not carry on the rubbish division policies which means some metals or plastic things could not be effectively recycled and reused to produce the recycle products, leading to a large scale of wasting. Meanwhile, a lot of countries just burry the rubbish under the ground, in this case the pollutant chemicals or dusty water would release or leak into the soil, even the underground water. As a result, the crops will absorb the dangerous chemicals so that the animals that feed on these plants will accumulate the pollutant and dangerous materials into their bodies, posing threat to their lives. For instance, with the growth of the chickens near the area polluted by the industrial rubbished releasing the chemical emitting the dangerous element, the chickens need nutrition from the insects and plants which also polluted by the dangerous element and they may not survive very long, but also carry the pollution to the people who eats them or the eggs. Still, some give the compelling points that improving the technology for removing salt from seawater and alternatives for motorized vehicles could be very useful to solve the environmental problems. Conversely, it is more significant to prevent these problems rather than struggling to solve these problems after happening. Therefore, the rubbish division could be useful for a lot of problems.

改进建议示例1(英文): Instead of "Since, the pollutions from the rubbishes are likely to leak into the soli when they usually are buried under the soil which can be used to plant human's necessary crops.", you can write "Soil pollution occurs when waste materials, such as chemicals and plastics, are buried in the ground and contaminate the soil, making it unsuitable for growing crops."

改进建议示例2(英文): Instead of "For instance, with the growth of the chickens near the area polluted by the industrial rubbished releasing the chemical emitting the dangerous element...", you can write "For example, if chickens are raised near an area contaminated by industrial waste that releases harmful chemicals, these toxins can enter their bodies through their food sources and ultimately affect humans who consume them."

改进建议示例1(英文): You can start your essay with an introduction like this: "In response to the professor's question, I believe that soil pollution is a critical environmental issue that needs to be addressed. In this essay, I will discuss the causes and consequences of soil pollution and propose a potential solution."

改进建议示例2(英文): To improve the organization of your essay, you can use transition words or phrases such as "Firstly," "Moreover," and "In conclusion" to guide the reader through your ideas. For example: "Firstly, let's examine the causes of soil pollution. Industrial waste and improper disposal of household trash are two major contributors."

5. 语法批改

I hold the firm idea that soil pollution is the crucial problemproblem,(This rule identifies whether commas are missing in a sentence.) which means the soil would be polluted by the large quantities of rubbishes not only from the daily life but also from some industries. Since, the pollutions from the rubbishes are likely to leak into the solisold(misspelling) when they usually areare usually(Word order: Wrong position of adverb, e.g. 'Always I am happy. (I am always happy.)') buried under the soil which can be used to plant human's necessary crops. Specifically, lot ofa lot of((a) bunch of) areas in the world would not carry on the rubbish division policies which means some metals or plastic things could not be effectively recycled and reused to produce the recycle products, leading to a large scale of wasting. Meanwhile, a lot of countries just burryBarry(misspelling) the rubbish under the ground, in this case the pollutant chemicals or dusty water would release or leak into the soil, even the underground water. As a result, the crops will absorb the dangerous chemicals so that the animals that feed on these plants will accumulate the pollutant and dangerous materials into their bodies, posing threat to their lives. For instance, with the growth of the chickens near the area polluted by the industrial rubbished releasing the chemical emitting the dangerous element, the chickens need nutrition from the insects and plants which also polluted by the dangerous element and, and(comma between independent clauses) they may not survive very long, but also carry the pollution to the people who eatseat(Agreement of relative pronoun 'who' and verb) them or the eggs. Still, some give the compelling points that (Two consecutive spaces)improving the technology for removing salt from seawater and alternatives for motorized vehicles could be very useful to solve the environmental problems. Conversely, it is more significant to prevent these problems rather than struggling to solve these problems after happening. Therefore, the rubbish division could be useful for a lot of problems.

Section Title: Addressing Soil Pollution and Its Consequences

In my opinion, soil pollution is a critical environmental issue that requires immediate attention. This type of pollution occurs when large quantities of waste from both daily life and industrial processes accumulate in the soil, ultimately contaminating it. This polluted soil can then negatively impact the growth of crops that are essential for human consumption.

A significant contributing factor to this problem is the lack of proper waste management policies in many regions worldwide. Inadequate recycling and reuse of materials such as metals and plastics lead to excessive waste production. Moreover, the common practice of burying waste underground allows pollutants to seep into the soil and even contaminate groundwater sources. Consequently, crops absorb these harmful chemicals, which then enter the food chain as animals consume these plants. This not only endangers animal lives but also poses a threat to human health.

For example, consider chickens raised near an area polluted by industrial waste containing hazardous chemicals. These chickens rely on insects and plants for nutrition, which may also be contaminated by dangerous substances. As a result, not only do these chickens have shorter lifespans, but they also transfer pollutants to humans who consume their meat or eggs.

While some argue that improving desalination technology or promoting alternative transportation methods can help address environmental issues, I believe it is more crucial to prevent problems from occurring in the first place rather than attempting to resolve them after they have already transpired. Implementing effective waste management strategies such as proper recycling and disposal practices can significantly mitigate soil pollution and its associated consequences on human health and the environment.
