Letter in the Centerville College News The administration has plans to acquire a new sculpture for campus. We should all oppose this plan. The university’s poor financial condition led it to increase the price for campus housing and tuition by 15% this past year. Surely then it is in no financial position to purchase such an expensive sculpture. Moreover, just look at the sculpture: several 60-foot long steel plates, jutting out of the earth at odd angles! It’s so large, it’ll take up all the green space in front of the campus center! This is public space that should be reserved for students to use.

Original Answer: The students suggest that the school can transform a large empty room in the math building into a small cafeteria. The woman disagrees with the letter because she believes that the reasons mentioned are not valid. First, students can eat there between classes. Second, the university can add some electrical outlets to make students recharge laptops. Firstly, she points out that an anonymous donor is funding most of the sculpture, not the university. Secondly, she thinks that Paul's concern about the space issue is due to his personal convenience rather than a genuine concern for the campus. In the conversation, the woman likes it. First, it's very convenient since students have to go to the student center to get something to eat, and they will have no time to leave the math building for the student center. And it can provide students with a space to chat with friends. Second, most students have to bring their laptops to class, and there are no places for them to recharge since it is very old, and they can charge it between classes and even get some work done there.

Revised Answer (140 words): The woman disagrees with the letter because she believes that the reasons mentioned are not valid. Firstly, she points out that an anonymous donor is funding most of the sculpture, not the university. This contradicts Paul's argument about the university's poor financial condition being a reason not to purchase the sculpture. Secondly, she thinks that Paul's concern about the space issue is due to his personal convenience rather than a genuine concern for the campus. She mentions that Paul and his friends often play soccer on the lawn where the sculpture will be placed, and they will have to find another location to play. In her opinion, Paul's opposition to the sculpture is more about his own convenience than any real issues with the sculpture or its impact on the campus.

Original Answer: The school has implemented a new policy that they will put a sculpture on the front of campus center, and the woman holds a negative view towards the announcement. The university plans to place a sculpture in front of the campus center, but the woman disagrees with the letter's arguments against it. The first reason she gives is that the school's financial condition is so poor, but the sculpture is so large and expensive, they can use the money for some more useful function. She argues that the letter's concern about the university's financial situation is irrelevant since an anonymous donor is funding most of the sculpture. And the second one is based on the fact that her friend Pearl likes to play soccer in front of the campus center. If the school puts the sculpture, she will have no place to play soccer, therefore she disagrees with the opinion. The second reason she disagrees is that Paul's complaint about losing green space for playing soccer is merely a matter of personal convenience.

Revised Answer (140 words): The university plans to place a sculpture in front of the campus center, but the woman disagrees with the letter's arguments against it. She argues that the letter's concern about the university's financial situation is irrelevant since an anonymous donor is funding most of the sculpture. This means that the university is not incurring any significant expenses for the artwork. The second reason she disagrees is that Paul's complaint about losing green space for playing soccer is merely a matter of personal convenience. She believes that Paul and his friends can easily find another location on campus to play soccer, and their inconvenience should not outweigh the benefits of having a beautiful piece of art on campus. Overall, the woman believes that the letter's arguments are not convincing enough to oppose the installation of the sculpture.
