Doctor Achebe: To continue our discussion on adopting an environmentally friendly lifestyle, let's explore the role that individuals can play in keeping the Earth as clean as possible. Recycling is the most common action taken to help keep the environment clean, but studies show that recycling alone is not enough. Other than recycling, what is one action that a person could take that would have the greatest impact on protecting the environment? Why?
Andrew
It might be better to pay more attention when we are shopping and to avoid purchasing items that aren't environmentally friendly, such as single-use plastic items. Doing so would save time and energy because we will not have to recycle anything, and it might even leave us with more time to help the environment in other ways.
Claire
People should try to prevent pollution just like Kelly suggests, but it might be better to first address the pollution that already exists in our environment. If people plant trees and shrubs in their yards or in the local parks, these trees and shrubs might absorb pollutants that we breathe in and help to clean the air in our cities.

While it’s true that people can help protect the environment by planting trees, I still contend with Andrew that preventing pollution is better other than recycling. The first reason for my stance is the convenience. One doesn’t need to do something big or complicated to avoid pollution. It entails nothing but our awareness of environmental protection and daily action. For example, we can recycle the bags we use when we go shopping, replacing plastic bags with cloth ones. Additionally, it’s beneficial for us to buy items with labels proving that they are environmental-friendly rather than those single-use ones. Furthermore, preventing pollution directly deals with the source of environmental problems, because it’s always better to prevent than to treat. Less pollution made means less environmental problems to deal with. Therefore, more time and money can be saved or be spent in calling on others to join the environmental-friendly campaign. All in all, avoiding pollution proves to be a wiser choice for individuals.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision
In response to the professor's question, I concur with Andrew that focusing on pollution prevention is a more effective approach than solely relying on recycling. The primary reason for my stance is the convenience it offers. Preventing pollution does not require complex or grandiose actions; rather, it calls for increased environmental awareness and consistent daily efforts. For instance, we can opt to reuse shopping bags and replace single-use plastic bags with more sustainable alternatives like cloth bags. Moreover, purchasing environmentally-friendly products instead of disposable items further contributes to pollution reduction.
Additionally, addressing pollution at its source tackles environmental issues more directly, as prevention is often more effective than remediation. By generating less pollution, we subsequently reduce the number of environmental problems that need to be addressed. Consequently, this allows for more efficient use of time and resources, which can then be allocated towards promoting environmentally-conscious practices among others. In summary, prioritizing pollution prevention proves to be a wiser choice for individuals seeking to make a significant impact on environmental protection. (175 words)
