Professor
We have been discussing the idea that human well-being does not necessarily improve as a result of increasing production and consumption of goods and services. Some argue that humans already consume too many goods, from clothing to electronics to food; They believe that overconsumption has brought serious problems to human beings and even the earth. Do you agree that overconsumption - buying more than we really need - has become a serious problem? Why or why not?
Student A
I totally agree. We are buying far more than we need, and this cannot go on indefinitely. For many years, people have used shopping as a form of entertainment. Products bought on a whim fill landfills, and the energy consumed to produce them contributes to the global warming crisis. We should start to reduce our consumption gradually.
Student B
I don't agree with the idea that overconsumption is a serious problem, I agree that there is some overconsumption, but it mostly happens to the rich. I think in general, almost everyone only buys what they need. In fact, many people in the world don't even have access to everything they need.

I agree that overconsumption has become a serious problem since it cause waste of resources and develop against the healthy lifestyle. To elaborate, many people nowadays follow the trend of buying new things due to some company's exaggerated advertisement although those goods are unnecessary. It is not only a waste of money for consumers themselves but also hinder the society's commitment of constructing an environmental-friendly city. We everyone only consume what they need, more resources can be spent on meaningful things such as providing social welfare and such greatly benefits the whole society. Still, some argues that overconsumption is not a serious problem because it only happens to rich. Even it mostly happens to rich, as people are more and more rich, the problem will be much more serious in the future if we don't put emphasis on it now.

Title: 6 文章修订
Overconsumption has indeed become a pressing issue, as it leads to resource wastage and promotes an unhealthy lifestyle. In today's consumer-driven society, individuals often purchase unnecessary items due to persuasive advertising and the desire to follow trends. This not only results in financial loss for consumers but also impedes efforts to create environmentally sustainable communities. If people were to consume only what they need, resources could be allocated more effectively towards meaningful endeavors such as social welfare programs, ultimately benefiting society as a whole. While some argue that overconsumption primarily affects the wealthy, it is crucial to address this issue now as increasing affluence could exacerbate the problem in the future. (114 words)

考生範例
Excessive consumption has indeed become a pressing issue in contemporary society, particularly due to its detrimental effects on mental well-being. The overemphasis on materialistic pursuits often overlooks individuals' emotional and spiritual needs, leading to various psychological issues. In a consumer-driven culture, people are incessantly bombarded with advertisements and messages that encourage them to acquire more and newer products, resulting in a perpetual cycle of consumption. This fixation on material possessions can cause individuals to neglect their emotional and spiritual needs as they become preoccupied with obtaining more goods. For instance, an individual may experience a fleeting sense of happiness after purchasing a new smartphone; however, this feeling rapidly dissipates as they begin to covet the next innovative product. This unsustainable and fleeting pleasure can make people irritable and anxious, damaging their mental health. Long term anxiety and emptiness can make people more susceptible to psychological illnesses, while also affecting their relationships with colleagues and family, and even affecting the overall social atmosphere. In short, I believe that excessive consumption has become a very serious problem, and this social phenomenon needs to be dealt with in a timely manner.
