Professor

As discussed in class, the concept of health has evolved over time, and with advancements in technology and medicine, it is often believed that staying healthy is easier in modern times. However, some argue that current lifestyles and environmental factors have made it more challenging to maintain good health. In which period would you argue it is easier for people to stay in a healthy condition—at present or in the past? Why?

Student A Amber

I would definitely say that it is easier to maintain good health nowadays than in the past. It is important to consider the various factors that contribute to people's health. In the past, access to healthcare was limited and medical knowledge was not as advanced as it is today. Also, people's lifestyles were often less healthy due to factors such as limited access to healthy food and a lack of awareness about the importance of exercise.

Student B Jonah

I hold a different view from Amber and believe that it was actually easier to stay healthy in the past. Most people led healthier, more active lives in the past so there was no need to go the gym in their spare time. There were far fewer sedentary jobs in those days so there was no obsession to keep fit. Also, in terms of the issue of food and diet, there were far fewer additives and processed foods in the past, meaning that people had healthier diets.

In my opinion, I agree with Jonah's point of view that people are less healthy nowadays because they have less time to exercise. In addition, I think such amount time of work also causes the bad health for people. Especially these days, people always sit in front their computers for almost a whole day, which definitely do no help to their backbone and legs. This unhealthy work habitat do such harm to people's health that they always feel uncomfortable during work. In this case, the risks of many diseases have risen, like the problem of blood circulation, high blood pressure and so on. For example, I always use my computer to write my code. It makes me feel tired because my eyes need to stare on the screen for several hours constantly. As a result, I get a myopic and my eyes always feel dry after the long period of work. Therefore, I think it’s harder for people nowadays to keep healthy.

In my perspective, I concur with Jonah's assertion that individuals today are generally less healthy due to limited opportunities for physical activity. Furthermore, I believe that the demanding nature of modern work contributes significantly to this decline in overall health. In particular, contemporary work environments often require individuals to spend extended periods sitting in front of computers, which can lead to detrimental effects on posture and leg circulation. Consequently, these unhealthy habits increase the risk of various health issues such as poor blood circulation and hypertension. For instance, as a coder, I spend countless hours staring at a computer screen, resulting in eye strain and fatigue. This prolonged exposure has not only led to myopia but also causes persistent dryness in my eyes. Thus, it seems evident that maintaining good health has become increasingly challenging for individuals in today's fast-paced world. (144 words)

In my opinion, it is easier for individuals to maintain good health in the present era due to advancements in medical technology and the accumulation of knowledge.

Firstly, contemporary healthcare offers people access to effective medications and precise surgical procedures that were unavailable in the past. These modern treatments increase the likelihood of recovery from severe illnesses and contribute to overall well-being. Secondly, over time, we have gained a better understanding of the relationship between nutrition and health. This knowledge enables us to make informed choices about our diets, such as avoiding potentially harmful foods like spoiled mushrooms.

Considering these factors, I assert that individuals living in the present have a greater likelihood of maintaining a healthy lifestyle compared to those in previous generations. (127 words)

I agree with Amber and hold an opposite opinion to Jonah. I believe it's easier for people to maintain a healthy lifestyle nowadays than in the past. This is not only because of the improved medical and scientific knowledge but also because of the increased income of each individual. In the past, many people were unable to feed themselves with enough food let alone various food, so it's difficult for them to get well-rounded nutrients. For example, there once was a severe famine in history when people used to eat some certain kinds of mud in order to prevent themselves from feeling starved, which later proved to be harmful. I disagree with Jonah that people in the past didn't need to go to gyms because of their active lives. I consider it had nothing to do with a healthier lifestyle because they didn't realize that after doing high-intense work, people's immune ability would decrease because they were exhausted. Consequently, many people died because of overworking.

I concur with Amber and respectfully disagree with Jonah's perspective. In my opinion, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is significantly easier in contemporary times compared to the past. This can be attributed not only to advancements in medical and scientific knowledge but also to the increased income levels of individuals. Historically, numerous people struggled to obtain sufficient food, let alone a diverse diet, making it challenging for them to acquire well-rounded nutrients. For instance, during severe famines in the past, individuals resorted to consuming certain types of mud as a means of staving off hunger, which was later discovered to be detrimental.

Furthermore, I contest Jonah's assertion that people in the past did not require gym visits due to their active lifestyles. I argue that this had little bearing on their overall health as they were unaware of the consequences of engaging in high-intensity work without proper rest or recovery. As a result, many individuals experienced decreased immune function due to exhaustion and overworking, leading to numerous premature deaths. (173 words)

In my opinion, it is easier for people to keep healthy in modern society. Now, it is commonly believed that advanced medical technology and healthier lifestyles can improve people's lifespan effectively. To be more specific, there are all kinds of medicines are being launched into the markets and hospitals, and lots of scientists are devoting themselves into developing innovative technologies to tackle complicated illnesses like cancer. Besides, with the rising awareness of healthy lifestyles, people tend to cultivate healthier habits such as engaging in daily exercises and eating organic food. With more nutritious food available and various physical activities, people's living conditions are believed to improve dramatically. However, some argue that it is easier for people to stay healthy in the past since people exercised more and ate less processed food. Ironically, it is believed that the death rate remained high in the past days due to poor medical facilities and limited types of food. Therefore, modern development has indeed improved our living conditions in many crucial ways.

In addressing to healthy condition concerns, I sincerely agree with Jonah's perspective, which emphasizes food and necessities to keep fit as the key point to consider. First, it is worth noting that it becomes harder today to have health food source. Many companies producing food with too much additives which leads to negative effects for human health. They add too much sugar and oil only to ensure the flavor, without concerning the side effects. But people in the past eat whatever they grow in the land, which is totally organic food. Second, people in the past have to work on their own, without vehicles, they have to walk or cycle to working space. Most people in rural areas need to do agriculture without equipment like today. So they are forced to do exercise when working, without extra need to go to the gym, just like what Jonah says. Unlike Amber's statement, people in the past can stay in a healthy condition easier.

In response to the question of maintaining a healthy condition, I find myself aligning with Jonah's perspective, which highlights the significance of food quality and physical activity as crucial factors. Firstly, it is essential to acknowledge the increasing difficulty in obtaining healthy food sources in contemporary times. Numerous companies prioritize flavor enhancement through excessive additives, sugar, and oil without considering potential health repercussions. In contrast, individuals in the past predominantly consumed organically grown produce. Secondly, people's lifestyles in earlier times necessitated physical exertion as part of their daily routines. The absence of modern transportation and equipment compelled individuals to walk or cycle to work and engage in labor-intensive tasks such as agriculture. Consequently, they maintained an active lifestyle without requiring additional exercise regimens like gym visits. Contrary to Amber's assertion, these factors suggest that maintaining a healthy condition was comparatively easier in the past. (149 words)

The concept of health has evolved over time, it is generally believed that keeping a healthy state is easier with modern technology and medical treatment than with living stantards in the past. From my perspective, even with advanced medicines, having a well-being in nowadays is still harder than possesing fitness in ancient time. As Jonah posits, most people led healthier more physically active lives and work assignments in the past which deminished the demand for going to the gym in their spare time. Moreover, taken the issue of diet, there were far fewer additives and processed food in those days. Thus, people would have encountered fewer challenges formerly, including their healthier eating diet, working situations and lives. Amber presents a relevant point that in the past, access to healthcare was limited and medical knowledge was not as advanced as it is today, people in the past lacked awareness of eating diet and awareness of exercise. However, advanced electronic devices which were not availble previously whereas modern people spend most of their time playing and always being coporally inactive. In other words, with such well-developed technology as electronic devices that only exist in contemporary days, it is harder for people to maintain good health. In conclusion, though it is true the common sense in health and medical therapy in nowadays exceeds that of in the past, by stark contrasts, even with those advanced thoughts and technology, it is still more difficult to keep fit in modern days than in the ancient time.

The evolution of health over time has led to the belief that maintaining a healthy state is easier in the modern era due to advancements in technology and medicine. However, I contend that despite these advancements, achieving well-being today is more challenging than it was in the past.

Jonah's argument highlights that people in the past led healthier and more physically active lives due to their work assignments, reducing the need for gym visits during their leisure time. Furthermore, he points out that fewer additives and processed foods were present in their diets, resulting in healthier eating habits. Consequently, individuals faced fewer obstacles to maintaining good health in those days.

While Amber acknowledges that access to healthcare was limited and medical knowledge less advanced in the past, she overlooks the impact of modern technology on our lifestyles. Today's electronic devices encourage sedentary behavior as people spend considerable time engaged with screens rather than participating in physical activities. This shift towards a more inactive lifestyle makes it harder for individuals to maintain good health despite advances in medical knowledge and healthcare accessibility.

In essence, although our understanding of health and medical treatments has improved significantly over time, these advancements have not necessarily made it easier for individuals to maintain good health. While I appreciate the points mentioned by both Amber and Jonah, I think it is much more easier for people to sustain health condition in the past. Mainly because most people have to spend enormous time on their job nowadays, sedentary life style and excessive working hour making it extremely hard to get enough exercise and sufficient recess for people in modern days. However, we should aware that taking care of ourselves and staying healthy can be really time and energy consuming. For example, in order to be healthy regular schedule is indispensable which is not attainable for people who lives in modern days, since most of the people need to work until late nights. It is so obvious that if people don't even have time to acquire adequate rest, preparing healthy meal which is crucial for person's health can be really redundant in such tight agenda. Therefore they turn into unhealthy fast food that exacerbates their body health and they can't squeeze any time for exercise.

5. Grammar

While I appreciate the points mentioned by both Amber and Jonah, I think it is much more easiereasier(No 'more' or 'most' before comparatives) for people to sustain health condition in the past. Mainly because most people have to spend enormous time on their job nowadays, sedentary life stylelifestyle(life style (lifestyle)) and excessive working hour making it extremely hard to get enough exercise and sufficient recess for people in modern days. However, we should awareshould be aware(missing verb after 'will/can/could/would') that taking care of ourselves and staying healthy can be really time and energy consuming. For example, in order to be healthy regular schedule is indispensable which is not attainable for people who liveslive(Agreement of relative pronoun 'who' and verb) in modern days, since most of the people need to work until late nights. It is so obvious that if people don't even have time to acquire adequate rest, preparing healthy meal which is crucial for person's health can be really redundant in such tight agenda. ThereforeTherefore,(Commas after conjunctive/linking adverbs in front of a new sentence.) they turn into unhealthy fast food that exacerbates their body health and, and(comma between independent clauses) they can't squeeze any time for exercise.

Title: 6 文章修订

While I acknowledge the perspectives offered by both Amber and Jonah, I contend that maintaining a healthy lifestyle was comparatively easier in the past. The primary reason for this assertion is the prevalence of sedentary occupations and excessive working hours in contemporary society, which significantly impede individuals' ability to engage in regular physical activity and obtain adequate rest. It is crucial to recognize that self-care and health maintenance can be both time-consuming and energy-intensive endeavors. For instance, adhering to a consistent schedule, which is essential for optimal well-being, may prove unattainable for many modern-day individuals who frequently work late into the night. Consequently, these individuals may struggle to find sufficient time to prepare nutritious meals or engage in regular exercise, often resorting to unhealthy fast food options as a result. This shift towards less health-conscious habits underscores the challenges faced by those attempting to maintain their well-being in today's fast-paced world. (154 words)
