題目概覽

閱讀段落

Exaptation The physical features of an animal's body usually serve a specific purpose-they function to increase the animal's chances of survival. But over time in response to a particular challenge in its environment an animal species will sometimes use one of its existing features for a new purpose. This is known as exaptation. By finding another use for one of its physical features exaptation allows animals to respond to additional challenges in their environment. The animal may continue to use the physical feature for its older purpose while also using it for the new purpose.

Original Answer: Well, in the reading passage, Acceptation Exaptation(接受改为异化,因为这是原文中的正确词汇) is described as a feature on some animal species to meet the environment and increase the chance to survive. In the lecture, the professor gives an example of a kind of bird which lives by rivers and marshes and eats fish under the water. But it's pretty hard for them to see the fish under the water by the sunshine on the river because there is sun reflection and the glare stops them from seeing the fish. So they use their wings to block the sun. Just like the umbrella and eliminate the disturbance of glare and reflection. This movement well and nicely illustrates the expectation.

Corrected Answer: Well, in the reading passage, Acceptation Exaptation(接受改为异化,因为这是原文中的正确词汇) is described as a feature in some animal species that adapts to their environment and increases their chances of survival. In the lecture, the professor provides an example of a type of bird that inhabits rivers and marshes and feeds on fish beneath the water's surface. However, it is quite challenging for these birds to spot fish underwater due to sunlight reflecting off the water's surface, causing glare that obstructs their view. To overcome this issue, they utilize their wings to block out sunlight, similar to an umbrella, effectively eliminating glare and reflections. This adaptation aptly demonstrates exaptation.

Revised 140-word Answer: In the reading passage, Exaptation is described as a feature in some animal species that adapts to their environment and increases their chances of survival. The lecture provides an example of a type of bird that inhabits rivers and marshes, feeding on fish beneath the water's surface. However, spotting fish underwater is challenging for these birds due to sunlight reflecting off the water's surface, causing glare that obstructs their view. To overcome this issue, they utilize their wings to block out sunlight, similar to an umbrella, effectively eliminating glare and reflections. This adaptation aptly demonstrates exaptation, showcasing how animals can repurpose existing features to address new challenges in their environment. The heron's ability to use its wings for both flying and blocking sunlight highlights the concept of exaptation and its role in enhancing an animal's chances of survival.

4.话题发展 The speaker's response is coherent and well-organized, with clear connections between ideas. However, there is room for improvement in providing more specific details and examples to better illustrate the concept of exaptation. The speaker should focus on explaining how the heron's use of its wings for a new purpose (blocking the sun) is an example of exaptation, as well as mentioning that it still uses its wings for the original purpose (flying). This would help strengthen the connection between the heron example and the concept of exaptation introduced in the reading passage.

Original Answer: Well, the reading passage talks about adaptation, Well, the reading passage talks about exaptation, (将"adaptation"改为"exaptation",因为原文中的概念是“exaptation”而不是“adaptation”) and it means that to respond to challenges in the environment, animals will use its existing features for a new purpose. For example, a bird walks around shallow water in Africa, it is pretty hard to see water since the sun creates reflection. However, they use wings to block the sun instead of flying, therefore, they can clearly see the water. Therefore, the example is related to an adaptation introduced in the reading passage.

Corrected Answer: Well, the reading passage talks about exaptation, and it means that to respond to challenges in the environment, animals will use their existing features for a new purpose. For example, a heron walks around shallow water in Africa, it is quite difficult to see fish since the sun creates reflections on the water surface. However, they use their wings to block the sun instead of just flying, thus enabling them to see fish more clearly. Therefore, this example demonstrates exaptation as introduced in the reading passage.

Revised Answer (140 words): The reading passage introduces the concept of exaptation, which refers to animals using their existing features for a new purpose in response to environmental challenges. A prime example of this is an African heron that wades in shallow waters. Due to sunlight creating reflections on the water surface, it becomes difficult for the heron to spot fish. To overcome this challenge, herons have adapted by using their wings not only for flying but also as a means to block the sun, creating shade and reducing glare. This allows them to see fish more clearly and efficiently. In conclusion, the heron's ability to use its wings for a new purpose, while still retaining their original function, exemplifies the concept of exaptation as discussed in the reading passage.
