Professor

In many countries, the standard workweek consists of eight hours of work each day for five days per week. Now, though, some people advocate a shorter workweek: a four-day workweek with no decrease in workers' pay. There are advantages and disadvantages to this of course. What is your opinion about instituting a shorter, four-day workweek, and why.

Andrew

I like that idea, but on one condition: that the workday is no longer than eight hours. have heard some plans require ten hours a day for a four-day week. Most employees would find that exhausting, and it could actually be counterproductive to tire out your workers. Yes to four-day weeks, but no to ten-hour days!

Claire

In my country, the workweek is Monday to Friday plus halt a day on Saturday, so moving to a four-day workweek would be too drastic a change! Workers might struggle to complete their tasks in a four-day workweek. It seems less stressful to spread workout over more days rather than trying to condense it all into a shorter week.

While I can understand Claire’s point that a shorter week might increase workers’ working stress, I agree with Andrew’s perspective that a rational four-day week, consisting of less than teem-hour per day, helps workers to relax and relieve their pressure. In this way, workers can have more days a week to get distracted from tedious job stuff, stressful working environment, and annoying interpersonal communication, which eventually enables recharge their minds and bodies; however, pressured by a large amount working projects all the time, workers will endure much pressure. Apart from Andrew's perspective, I would like to add that a short workweek can boost working efficiency. Specifically, with a short workweek, worker give priority to working tasks, save a large quantity of spare time, and adhere to timetable of projects, which definitely enhance their working productivity; on the contrary, tasks and projects may not be completed in time. Therefore, a rational short four-day week, without doubt, can bring benefits to workers.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision

In response to the professor's question, I concur with Andrew's view that a well-structured four-day workweek, consisting of no more than eight hours per day, can be beneficial for employees by allowing them to relax and alleviate stress. This arrangement provides workers with additional days to disconnect from monotonous tasks, demanding work environments, and challenging interpersonal interactions, ultimately enabling them to recharge both mentally and physically. However, I also recognize Claire's concern regarding the potential increase in workload pressure due to a condensed schedule.

Beyond Andrew's argument, I propose that a shorter workweek can actually enhance overall productivity. With a reduced number of working days, employees are likely to prioritize tasks more effectively, adhere to project timelines more strictly, and make better use of their available time. In contrast, longer workweeks may lead to procrastination and missed deadlines. Thus, a thoughtfully designed four-day workweek can undoubtedly yield positive outcomes for both workers and organizations. (159 words)
