Nomadic Phase Certain insects spend time in both extended periods of settlement and extended periods of travel. During a period of travel, the entire group will continually move from one place to another. This is known as a nomadic phase. A nomadic phase may begin because a group of insects has a temporary need for additional resources that cannot be found in the area near the nest. Thus, the group must travel in search of these resources. Once the need for additional resources is over the nomadic phase ends and the group settles again in one location.

23. 3.Delivery

The speaker's delivery is generally clear and fluid, with a consistent pace and only occasional pauses. However, there are some minor issues with punctuation and pronunciation that could be improved. To enhance the delivery, the speaker should practice proper pausing at appropriate points in the sentence and work on accurate pronunciation of certain words.

4.Topic Development The speaker provides a coherent and well-organized response, with clear connections between ideas and sufficient support or examples. However, there is room for improvement in terms of elaborating on the specific details from the lecture. To further develop the topic, the speaker could include more information about how the ants' behavior exemplifies goal displacement and how it relates to the nomadic phase concept discussed in the reading passage.

5.Language Use

Original: Well, the professor dives deeper into the concept nomadic phase by providing an example of a specific kind of ants. The professor delves into the concept of the nomadic phase by providing an example of a particular species of ants. ("dives deeper" changed to "delves into" for a more natural-sounding phrase; "kind" changed to "species" for accurate terminology)

Original: So the ants live in colonies underground, and once there are baby ants in the colony who are in urgent need of extra nutrition, the entire colony leaves its original nest and went to a new location just to ensure continuous food supply. These ants live in underground colonies, and when baby ants require additional nutrition, the entire colony leaves its original nest and moves to a new location to ensure a continuous food supply. (Simplified sentence structure and improved grammar)

Original: And they only stop when the baby ants have grown up and are in no need of extra nutrition. They only stop when the baby ants have matured and no longer require extra nutrition. (Improved sentence structure and word choice)

Original: Then the entire colony would settle down and build a new nest underground. Afterward, the entire colony settles down and constructs a new underground nest. (Improved sentence structure and word choice)

Revised Answer (140 words):

The professor delves into the concept of the nomadic phase by providing an example of a particular species of ants. These ants live in underground colonies, and when baby ants require additional nutrition, the entire colony leaves its original nest and moves to a new location to ensure a continuous food supply. They only stop when the baby ants have matured and no longer require extra nutrition. Afterward, the entire colony settles down and constructs a new underground nest. This example illustrates goal displacement as the ants adapt their behavior to meet the changing needs of their colony, specifically the nutritional requirements of the baby ants. By engaging in a nomadic phase, they can secure adequate resources for their young, ultimately ensuring the survival and growth of the colony.

In such cases, if the food near the nest is insufficient to meet the baby ants' nutritional needs, the entire group will leave the nest and relocate to find a new food source. (将"provide for"改为"meet",使句子更自然。)

Revised Answer (140 words):

The reading passage introduces the concept of the nomadic phase, a strategy in which entire groups move from one location to another in search of resources. For instance, ants are a type of insect that live together underground. They typically collect food near their nest, however, baby ants require a significant amount of nutrition. In such cases, if the food near the nest is insufficient to meet the baby ants' nutritional needs, the entire group will leave the nest and relocate to find a new food source. If the food in that location runs out, they will move again to meet the baby ants' nutritional requirements. Eventually, when the baby ants mature and no longer need as much food, the ants will find a new nesting site and settle there. This example illustrates goal displacement as the ants adapt their behavior to ensure the survival and growth of their young.
