We are looking this week at different ways businesses market their products and services.especially nontraditional methods. One thing that marketers pay close attention to isonline reviews of their products. A business might include customer reviews on theirwebsite or carefully monitor the reviews on third-party sites. I would like you to discussyour own experiences with online reviews. Do you find them useful when decidingwhether or not to buy a product or service? Why or why not?

Andrew

think online reviews are a great source of information because they are written byordinary customers who are like me. For instance, when I read a restaurant review byprofessional food critics, 'm not interested in some of the details that are included, likehow the food is prepared. I'm more interested in aspects like the quality of the food andthe service, which regular customers usually comment on.

Claire

To me, online reviews have some real problems. First people are more likely to postreviews after a bad experience than after a good one. As a result, what you read is oftenweighted toward the negative. Also, you have no way of knowing whether reviewersknow what they are talking about or even if they actually bought and used the productthey are reviewing

In my perspective, I concur with Andrew’s assertion that online reviews post positive effect on potential customers, as they provided by user who has genuine using experience of the product. First, previous buyers provide guidance for individuals to familiar with the product and evaluate whether it is worth to buy. For instance, some people buy a electric device just because attracted by some particular functions. However, finding that the function is useless for consumers as they never use it at all, then, leading to a regrettable purchase experience. Furthermore, when we need to pick one from two products, reviews assist us to find the product that is more suitable. While Claire contends that it is difficult for people to find useful post reviews since reviewers often post bad experiences rather than good, I want to highlight that bad experiences also a great suggestion for potential consumers, as they can avoiding buying products or trying awful services.

In my perspective, I concur with Andrew's assertion that online reviews have a positive impact on potential customers, as they are provided by users who possess genuine experience with the product. Firstly, previous buyers offer guidance for individuals to familiarize themselves with the product and evaluate its worthiness. For instance, some people may purchase an electronic device solely due to specific features; however, upon discovering that these functions are rarely utilized, they may experience buyer's remorse. Furthermore, when faced with a choice between two products, reviews aid in determining the most suitable option. While Claire argues that it is challenging to find useful reviews since individuals tend to share negative experiences more frequently than positive ones, I would like to emphasize that these unfavorable accounts also serve as valuable suggestions for potential consumers, enabling them to avoid purchasing subpar products or engaging in unsatisfactory services. Academic Discussion
