Refute-and-Persuade Sometimes companies realize that consumers may have developed a negative impression of a product. One way in which they can resolve this problem is by using an advertising technique known as refute-and-persuade. Refute-and-persuade means that in advertising a product, the company first indicates its awareness of the product’s disadvantage. But then the company refutes or challenges that disadvantage by demonstrating how the advantage of buying and using the product makes up for any limitation it may have. In this way, companies can persuade consumers to purchase a product despite its drawbacks.

4.话题发展 The speaker provided a coherent and well-organized response, clearly connecting the ideas and using the example from the lecture to illustrate the refute-and-persuade technique. However, there is room for improvement in topic development. The speaker could have elaborated more on how the advertisement refutes the disadvantage of the high price by emphasizing the lifetime warranty and how it saves money in the long run. Additionally, providing more specific details from the lecture, such as mentioning the professional cook's role in the advertisement, would have strengthened the response. By expanding on these points, the speaker can further improve their topic development skills.
5.语言使用Original Answer: The lecture is about refute and persuade technique in advertising. The lecture discusses the refute-and-persuade technique in advertising. (原句较为简单,修改后的句子更自然且表达更准确) The professor provides an example of a television advertisement for a company's pot and pants. Revised Answer (140 words): The lecture discusses the refute-and-persuade technique in advertising. The professor gives an example of a TV advertisement for a company's pots and pans, featuring a professional cook. In the advertisement, the cook acknowledges that the company's pots and pans are more expensive than other products on the market, which may cause consumers to hesitate when considering purchasing them. However, she argues that investing in their pots and pans is worthwhile due to the lifetime warranty they offer. This warranty ensures that the company will replace their products for free if any issues arise, setting them apart from competitors who cannot make the same claim. By refuting the disadvantage of the high price and emphasizing the long-term savings provided by the lifetime warranty, the advertisement effectively employs the refute-and-persuade technique.

6.语言使用Original Answer: Refute and persuade means when the company wants to sell its product, it can firstly state about its disadvantages but then refute those drawbacks by showing the real benefits. Refute and persuade is a technique used by companies to sell their products by initially acknowledging their disadvantages and then refuting those drawbacks by highlighting the actual benefits. (将句子结构调整得更自然,使用更高级的词汇) In the lecture, the professor uses an example of the TV show to illustrate this point. In the TV show, a professional cook first introduces some pots and pans. She says that those pots and pans are really expensive and they cost more than other companies' products. However, she later refutes those drawbacks by showing the real benefits of having those pots and pans. That is, the company will give its customers a lifetime warranty to replace those pots and pans if something went wrong. So customers are more attracted to this product and the sales volume increases. So this is how the refute and persuade technique works in real-life situations.
Revised Answer (140 words):
Refute and persuade is a technique used by companies to sell their products by initially acknowledging their disadvantages and then refuting those drawbacks by highlighting the actual benefits. In the lecture, the professor cites a TV advertisement as an example to demonstrate this concept. In the advertisement, a professional cook introduces a set of expensive pots and pans that cost more than other brands' products. However, she counters this disadvantage by emphasizing the genuine advantages of owning these pots and pans, such as the lifetime warranty offered by the company for replacements if any issues arise. Consequently, customers become more enticed by this product, leading to increased sales volume. This example effectively illustrates the practical application of the refute and persuade technique in real-life situations.

5.语言使用Original: In the lecture, the professor used the case of points and pens pots and pans(这里应该是pots and pans,而不是points and pens) to illustrate the definition of refute and persuade. That means the awareness of a product's disadvantages and then the company just refutes and challenges these disadvantages. Take the case of a kind of advertisement. A woman talks about the disadvantages of points and pens pots and pans(这里应该是pots and pans,而不是points and pens). She thinks this product is so expensive and the customer will cost more than other companies' products and the customer is also unwilling to buy it. However, she thinks this product is worthwhile because the company gave a guarantee for a long time. However, the other company didn't give the offer.
Revised (140 words): In the lecture, the professor used the example of pots and pans to illustrate the advertising technique of refute-and-persuade. This technique involves acknowledging a product's disadvantages, then refuting or challenging those drawbacks by highlighting its advantages. The advertisement featured a woman discussing the high cost of these pots and pans compared to other companies' products, which might make customers hesitant to purchase them. However, she argued that this product was worth the investment due to its long-lasting quality and lifetime warranty provided by the company, which sets it apart from competitors who do not offer such guarantees. By addressing potential concerns while emphasizing its unique benefits, this advertisement effectively employs the refute-and-persuade strategy to convince consumers that these pots and pans are a valuable purchase despite their higher initial cost.

修订版(140字):
Refute and persuade is an advertising technique where the company first acknowledges the product's disadvantages. In the professor's example, he mentions seeing a TV advertisement for pots and pans from a well-known company. In the advertisement, a woman demonstrates using these products in her kitchen. She also mentions that these products are more expensive than similar ones from other companies. As a result, people might be hesitant to spend more on these products. However, she argues that the higher cost is justified because of the long-term value and superior warranty policy offered by the company, which ultimately saves consumers money in the long run. This effectively persuades potential buyers to consider purchasing the product despite its initial drawbacks.
