Today we'll talk about strategies companies can use to help reduce electronics waste. First, there's recycling. This typically involves separating the materials that electronics contain and reusing them. But this can be difficult and too expensive. Or perhaps the emphasis should be on making electronics last longer-for example, by requiring companies to offer replacement parts on the products they manufacture. Which approach do you think would be most effective?

Student A

Electronic products should be designed to last longer. I cracked the screen on my cell phone once and only needed a new screen. But the company that made the phone didn't sell replacement screens, so I couldn't get it repaired. I had to throw the phone away even though I could have used it longer with a new screen.

Student B

It'd be better to require companies to improve their recycling programs. For example, I need to dispose of an old computer I own because the hardware is outdated. But where I live, there are no facilities for electronics recycling. I know that some companies pay the costs for consumers to ship their old computers back to the company for recycling.

Section Title: 6

While I understand the perspective of advocating for longer-lasting electronic products, I believe that focusing on improving recycling programs would be a more comprehensive solution to the issue of electronic waste. Not only would this provide a convenient option for individuals looking to dispose of their outdated devices, but it could also lead to the creation of new job opportunities in waste management. For instance, communities could establish electronic waste recycling initiatives, prompting residents to bring their old electronics to designated recycling facilities. This approach would generate local employment opportunities in roles such as electronic waste recyclers or processing technicians. Consequently, the environment would be better protected from the harmful effects of electronic waste, and fewer hazardous chemicals would be released into our surroundings. (128 words)

I strongly agree with Claire's idea that laws may well have the biggest influence on relieving environmental degradation and protecting the physical well-being of the public. I would add that environmental protection laws can deter companies from contaminating the environment. This is because governments can fine heavily those businesses which pollute the environment. As a result, the revenue of these corporations may be dramatically reduced. In order to make the companies more profitable, the owners will be forced to avoid polluting the environment. I concur with Claire's point that legislation is the most significant method to protect the ecological environment from being damaged since laws as the presentation of the highest power could produce the most extensive and profound influence on prohibiting the behaviours which destroy the natural surroundings. to be more specific, it is a variety of actions of different subjects, from individuals to some large enterprises, that cause the serious pollution to forests, water resources, air ,land and other aspects of ecosystem. In the process of legislation, the lawmakers could regulate the penalties of every illegal behaviours that damage the environment. Afraid of being in jail and heavy fines, both citizens and business would obey the rules to avoid the behaviours destroying the environment on their own initiative. For example, knowing that discharging wastewater results in the fine of about 50 percent of the annual profits, most companies would self-control their production procedure.

I agree with Student A's assertion that legislation serves as the most crucial means of safeguarding our environment from further degradation. Laws, as the embodiment of supreme authority, have the potential to exert a far-reaching and profound impact on curbing actions detrimental to our natural surroundings. Environmental pollution stems from a myriad of sources, ranging from individual activities to large-scale industrial operations, adversely affecting forests, water resources, air quality, land, and other aspects of ecosystems. Through the legislative process, lawmakers can establish penalties for environmentally harmful behaviors. Consequently, fear of imprisonment or hefty fines would deter both citizens and businesses from engaging in activities that harm the environment.

In contrast to alternative approaches that address only specific environmental issues, the formulation and enforcement of laws offer a more comprehensive and enduring solution for environmental protection. For instance, if companies were aware that discharging wastewater could result in fines amounting to 50 percent of their annual profits, they would likely exercise greater self-regulation in their production processes. I am more inclined to agree with Claire that the government should pass and enforce laws to prevent pollution. The crux of the current enviromental issues mainly lies in the human activities that cause enormous pollution to the earth. For example, at the early stage of industrial development, numerous factories and industries were built and emitted a large amount of greenhouse gases that contributed to the global warming nowadays. Furthermore, some companies poured out polluted water or waste into the rivers, leading to detrimental impacts on the ocean ecosystem. If strict laws are implemented, the pollution issues can be greatly mitigated. Moreover, related laws can also be established to ensure good preservation of natural places and native wildlife species. For instance, illegal hunters should be greatly fined for killing wildlife animals. In a word, establishing laws can play an important role in both preventing pollutions and preserving nature.

While I acknowledge the importance of addressing air pollutioin problems, I must agree with Claire that adding taxes on air travel will just cause financial burden to people, instead of solving environmental issues effectively. First, adding taxes to the price of tickets will be detrimental to the development of air industry. More people have to choose other transportation means such as highways and cars, resulting in less revenue of airline companies. However, regarding the long trip, people will have no choice. Secondly, even if adding taxes to tickets price, citizens' awareness of protecting environment will not be enhanced by this way. We can take other actions to improve people's awareness on environmental protection. For instance, the government can give subsidies to people who ride bikes to work.

While addressing air pollution is undoubtedly crucial, I concur with Claire that imposing environmental taxes on air travel may primarily burden passengers without effectively tackling environmental concerns. Firstly, increasing ticket prices through additional taxes could hinder the growth of the aviation industry, as more individuals might opt for alternative transportation methods like cars and highways, leading to reduced revenue for airlines. Nonetheless, for long-distance travel, people may have limited options. Secondly, such taxes may not necessarily enhance citizens' environmental awareness. Instead, alternative measures could be employed to foster a sense of responsibility towards the environment. For example, governments could provide subsidies to those who commute by bicycle or utilize other eco-friendly modes of transportation. (119 words)

As Claire said, the government is more focused on economic promotion but only pays a little attention to environmental protection. They have not made many strict management and policies for environmental protection, which is not likely to improve the environmental situation.  While it is true that many countries are developing renewable energy and implementation of sustainable practices in agriculture and forestry, which can reduce the damage to the environment, however, human beings can only alleviate the persecution of the environment, we cannot prevent the deterioration of the environment. Because there are fewer and fewer resources on the earth, and with the increase of population, people need to use more resources, which makes many countries accelerate the persecution of the environment for resources. In conclusion, countries are constantly competing for and exploiting resources instead of focusing on environmental protection, so the environmental situation will not improve in future.

In my opinion, the global environmental situation is unlikely to improve significantly. I concur with Claire's perspective that governments tend to prioritize economic growth over environmental conservation. The lack of stringent regulations and policies addressing environmental concerns hinders progress in this area.

Admittedly, there have been positive developments, such as the adoption of renewable energy sources and sustainable practices in agriculture and forestry. These efforts help mitigate environmental damage; however, they are insufficient to halt the overall decline in our planet's health. As Earth's resources dwindle and the population continues to grow, the demand for energy, food, and water intensifies. This increased demand drives many nations to exploit their environments further rather than focusing on conservation efforts. Consequently, without a substantial shift in priorities and a concerted global effort towards sustainability, it is doubtful that the environmental situation will improve significantly in the future. While both Claire and Paul have their point, I agree with Paul. First, financial support to electric-car manufacturers would be cheaper for the governments. If public transport was enhanced, highways would be mostly unused and there might be a need for more roads for public transport. This would be very costly: some governments might not even have the money to do so. In contrast, the governments just have to give electric car makers the funds and benefits they need, and that is it. Also, rural people need their own vehicles to commute, otherwise it would be very difficult for them to go to places like stores or schools. Remember that governments funding electric vehicle makers would be much cheaper, and the huge amount of money that would have gone to make infrastructure would be used for other ways. Thus, I agree with Paul.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision

In response to the professor's question, I concur with Paul's perspective that providing financial support to electric car manufacturers and consumers is a more innovative and sustainable approach. Firstly, this strategy would be more cost-effective for governments compared to the extensive investment required for improving public transportation infrastructure. Expanding public transportation may lead to underutilized highways and additional expenses for new roads dedicated to public transport. On the other hand, supporting electric vehicle production only necessitates allocating funds and incentives to relevant companies.

Moreover, it is crucial to consider the needs of rural populations who rely on personal vehicles for transportation due to limited access to public transit options. These individuals would not benefit from enhancements in urban public transportation systems but could significantly contribute to reducing carbon emissions by adopting electric vehicles. Therefore, investing in electric vehicle technology not only presents a more affordable solution for governments but also addresses the diverse transportation requirements of both urban and rural communities. As far as I’m concerned, I believe it is a practical strategy to reduce pollution. To start with, just as Claire has pointed out, imposing higher taxes can discourage companies from producing too much pollution. I’d add that this measure can raise the environmental awareness of these firms and make them consider the negative impact of their production methods. This increased awareness can lead to a shift in behavior. To be more specific, they may resort to other environmentally friendly options to avoid being taxed, since cost is a crucial factor for all businesses. For instance, they may choose to use clean energy and dispose of their wastes properly instead of discharging chemical wastes randomly. With less pollution generated by factories, our environment will improve gradually.

In my opinion, implementing stricter penalties, such as higher taxes and larger fines, is an effective approach to mitigating pollution caused by companies. As Claire mentioned, these penalties can raise awareness among businesses about the environmental consequences of their operations. I would like to emphasize that this heightened awareness could potentially lead to a change in behavior. Specifically, companies may explore eco-friendly alternatives to avoid paying hefty taxes and fines, as cost efficiency is a critical factor for any business. For example, they might opt for clean energy sources and proper waste disposal methods instead of indiscriminately discharging hazardous chemicals. Consequently, a reduction in pollution from industrial sources would contribute to the gradual improvement of our environment. (122 words)

Section Title: 6 Article Revision

In response to the professor's question, I am inclined to agree with Paul's stance that prioritizing land for endangered species is more crucial than allocating it for human use. While Claire makes a valid point regarding the increasing human population and their ability to make rational decisions, the urgency of environmental protection cannot be overstated. Each species plays a unique role in maintaining ecological balance; thus, the extinction of certain species may lead to unforeseen consequences such as the proliferation of other species that could compete with humans for resources. Consequently, this would jeopardize human survival and well-being. To ensure a sustainable future for humanity, it is imperative that we focus on preserving endangered species and their habitats. I concur with Claire's perspective that the government should impose higher taxes and larger fines on companies responsible for pollution. Additionally, I propose that the revenue generated from these penalties be allocated towards research and development of eco-friendly technologies and practices. While Andrew raises a valid concern regarding the potential ineffectiveness of small fines, he fails to consider the possibility of significantly increasing these penalties to deter environmentally harmful behavior. As an example, the government could impose fines equivalent to one-fifth of a company's annual profits, which would likely have a substantial impact on their actions. (121 words)

I firmly agree with Andrew's opinion that taxing passengers on air travel is useful because it's more effective when it comes to reducing air pollution. Passengers will raise awareness of protecting the environment when there is a tax on air travel, which sounds alarms to them. In this case, they are more likely to make eco-friendly efforts in daily life, such as using public transportation instead of driving cars, which will reduce exhaust emissions. Additionally, a good green circle will form as more and more people realize the importance of ceasing air pollution and form supervision of patrol usage of airlines, which is more effective than taxing on the airline itself, for airlines are more liable to take measures under social pressure as opposed to financial punishment. Furthermore, the taxes can also reduce air travel if the government allocate this money to promote technology, such as remote meetings, which will certainly reduce business air travel.

Title: 6

I wholeheartedly concur with Andrew's perspective that imposing environmental taxes on air travel passengers is a viable approach to mitigating air pollution.

Introducing such taxes would heighten passengers' awareness of their environmental impact, prompting them to adopt more eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. For instance, they might opt for public transportation over personal vehicles, thereby reducing exhaust emissions. Moreover, as an increasing number of individuals recognize the urgency of addressing air pollution, they may exert pressure on airlines to adopt greener practices. This collective scrutiny would likely prove more effective than merely penalizing airlines financially.

Additionally, the revenue generated from these environmental taxes could be strategically allocated by the government to advance technologies that minimize the need for air travel. For example, investing in remote meeting capabilities could significantly reduce business-related flights. Ultimately, this approach would not only contribute to a cleaner environment but also foster a culture of responsibility and innovation in addressing pressing ecological concerns. (161 words)

In response to the professor's question on environment protection, I firmly believe that it is crucial that a nations's government provide enough financial aid to support environment protection. I will elaborate my standpoint as follows. Firstly, I concur with Claire's point that government should enforce laws to reduce pollution. Furthermore, in my view, there is no doubt environment protection need much money. My experience can illustrate the idea. Government has passed the discipline to force individuals to separate garbage into different groups. However, most of people do not obey the rule. Then government provide monetary reward for individuals who do it well. Eventually, everyone obey this rule. While Paul points that government should create more green space to improve the environment, he overlooks the fact that this measure also need financial support. Therefore, I think it is the most important that government give financial support.

In response to the professor's question on environment protection, I firmly believe that it is crucial that a nations'snation's(wrong genitive (e.g., 'employees's' instead of 'employee's')) government provide enough financial aid to support environment protection. However, most of peoplemost of the people(Articles: 'most/some of' + plural noun) do not obey the rule. Then government provide monetary reward for individuals who do it well. Eventually, everyone obey this rule. While Paul points that government should create more green space to improve the environment, he overlooks the fact that this measure also need financial support. Therefore, I think it is the most important that government give financial support.

Title: 6 Revised Essay

In response to the professor's question regarding environmental protection, I firmly believe that it is crucial for a nation's government to allocate sufficient financial resources to support environmental conservation efforts. I will elaborate on my standpoint as follows.

Firstly, I agree with Claire's assertion that governments should enforce laws to reduce pollution. Moreover, in my view, there is no doubt that environmental protection requires significant funding. My experience can illustrate this idea. The government has implemented regulations requiring individuals to separate their waste into different categories. However, many people do not comply with these rules. To address this issue, the government provided monetary incentives for those who adhered to the guidelines. Consequently, compliance increased significantly.

While Paul argues that governments should create more green spaces to improve the environment, he overlooks the fact that such measures also require financial support. For instance, preserving natural habitats and protecting native wildlife species necessitates funding for land acquisition, habitat restoration, and ongoing management.

Therefore, I contend that it is of utmost importance for governments to provide financial support for environmental protection initiatives. By doing so, they can ensure the implementation and success of various conservation strategies aimed at safeguarding our planet for present and future generations. (207 words)

In my personal opinion, imposing envrionmental tax on air travel offers more disadvantages than advantages. I wholeheartedly concur with Claire's assertion that extra taxes on air travel would be limited for solving the issue of air pollution since it only punishes passengers instead of airlines. In addition to Claire's perspective, I would further argue that carrying out environmental tax on airlines may result in economic recession. As one might expect, a higher ticket price, would definitely deter passengers who want to travel domestically or internationally, thus result in tourism's decline, ultimately leading to economic recession. While Andrew highlights the benefits of taxing on airlines, such as encouraging citizens to find a more economic way to travelor work, he fails to consider the fact that it is unfair for some residents who face an urgent situation which only air travel could address his or her issues.

In my opinion, I confirm that building more encharged equipments for the electric vehicles will encourage people to buy the electric vehicles. As we all know, the most problem for the expansion of electric vehicles is the question that people can not encharge their electric car conveniently. To be specific, there are many gas stations on the highway, but there is nearly no encharged equipment for the electric vehicles at the same time, which means that the car's owners are not able to run long distances by the electric vehicles, so the usage of electric vehicles will unavoidably decrease. Therefore, I think that government should build more encharged equipments for the electric vehicles to encourage more use of electric vehicles.

In my opinion, constructing additional charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) will significantly encourage people to purchase and utilize them. The primary obstacle hindering the widespread adoption of EVs is the lack of convenient charging options. For instance, while numerous gas stations are readily available along highways, EV charging stations are scarce in comparison. This disparity restricts the ability of EV owners to embark on long-distance journeys, inevitably limiting the overall usage of electric vehicles. As for environment protection issues, government plays important role in it. I sincerely concur with Paul’s statement, viewing preserving natural spaces and protecting native wildlife species as the top priority for the government, since it has longer benefits and is more efficient. To be more specific, we can all establish that it is impossible to revive distincted animal species. By protecting the natural spaces such as forest and the wildlife, we can preserve the biodiversity at once. Besides, protecting the forest from deforestation benefits all living beings, since trees can reduce air pollution by absorbing carbon dioxide and release oxygen instead. Some may argue that law enforcement should be the key to the limitation of environment protection, that might work to some extent, but it costs a lot to ensure companies and individuals obey the rule. Preserving natural spaces may be the most efficient approach.

In addressing environmental protection concerns, the government plays a crucial role. I wholeheartedly agree with Paul's perspective, which emphasizes the importance of preserving natural habitats and safeguarding native wildlife species as the top priority for governments, given its long-term benefits and efficiency.

Elaborating further, it is worth noting that once a species becomes extinct, it is impossible to revive it. By protecting natural environments such as forests and their inhabitants, we can maintain biodiversity for future generations.

Moreover, preventing deforestation has far-reaching benefits for all living beings. Trees play a vital role in mitigating air pollution by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. This process contributes significantly to the overall health of our planet.

While some may argue that enforcing laws should be the primary focus of environmental protection efforts, this approach may only be effective to a certain extent and can be costly in ensuring compliance from companies and individuals. In contrast, preserving natural spaces proves to be a more efficient and sustainable strategy in promoting environmental conservation. (172 words)

Both Claire and Paul present valid points regarding the environmental situation in the future, and I believe the environmental situation would not be better. Despite many people had realized the importance of environment and taken practice to protect it by using renewable energy and restoring wild animal habitats, compared with the urgency and profit brought by economic development, it seems to little effort. We are faced with a series of serious problems, such as global warming, the destruction of Ozone and the necleus-polluted water being throw into ocean, reaching a point that is hard to deal with. To solve those problems, it requires everyone efforts. Unfortunately, some people just want to pursue their benefits instead of sacrificing themselves to protect the environment. Even though some regulations are put on, stake-seeker would still take a risk to achieve their goal regardless they would damag the environment. In this sense, when the bad effects made by profit-pursuers outweigh that improvement done by environmental protectors, the environmental situation around the world is not likely to improve in the future.

例如,“Even though some regulations are put on, stake-seeker would still take a risk to achieve their goal regardless they would damag the environment.” 可以改为:“Even though some regulations are in place, profit-seekers would still take risks to achieve their goals, regardless of the potential damage to the environment.”

We are faced with a series of serious problems, such as global warming, the destruction of Ozone and the necleus-polluted[No Replacement Word Found](misspelling) water being throwthrown(Agreement: 'been' or 'was' + past tense) into oceanthe ocean(This rule identifies whether the article 'the' is missing in a sentence.), reaching a point that is hard to deal with. To solve those problems, it requires everyone efforts. Unfortunately, some people just want to pursue their benefits instead of sacrificing themselves to protect the environment. Even though some regulations are put on, stake-seeker would still take a risk to achieve their goal regardless they would damagdamage(misspelling) the environment. In this sense, when the bad effects made by profit-pursuers outweigh that improvement done by environmental protectors, the environmental situation around the world is not likely to improve in the future.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision

While both Claire and Paul offer compelling perspectives on the future of the global environmental situation, I am inclined to agree with Claire's viewpoint that it may not improve. Although numerous individuals have recognized the significance of environmental conservation and have taken steps to protect it through renewable energy adoption and wildlife habitat restoration, these efforts seem insufficient when compared to the urgency and profit-driven motives of economic development. We are confronted with a myriad of pressing issues, such as global warming, ozone layer depletion, and nuclear-contaminated water disposal in oceans, which have reached critical levels. Addressing these problems necessitates collective action; however, many individuals prioritize personal gain over making sacrifices for environmental preservation. Despite the implementation of regulations, opportunists continue to jeopardize our environment in pursuit of their objectives. Consequently, as long as the detrimental consequences caused by profit-seekers outweigh the improvements made by environmental advocates, it is unlikely that the worldwide environmental situation will see significant progress in the future. I totally agree with Claire's perspective. To an extent, it is already costly to buy an airplane ticket, not to mention that people still need to pay high taxes to the government. The ticket fee should be raised otherwise fewer customers will choose to take the airplane. Even if there is an environmental tax on air travel, the amount of money is too limited to cover the pollutant issues. Obviously, it is certainly not the best solution to the problem. However, after realizing the problem, it is the government that should be responsible for the financial aid, policies, and laws to invest in environmentally friendly technologies and promote the construction of green transportation as well as the development of high-tech green companies.

Title: 6

I concur with Claire's viewpoint that additional taxes on air travel may not effectively address the issue of air pollution. Imposing environmental taxes on passengers could make air travel prohibitively expensive for many, potentially reducing the number of customers and unfairly burdening them with the responsibility of mitigating pollution. The revenue generated from such taxes might be insufficient to tackle the extensive environmental challenges we face.

Instead, it is crucial for governments to take the lead in finding sustainable solutions by providing financial support, implementing policies, and enacting legislation that encourages investment in eco-friendly technologies. This approach would foster the growth of green transportation infrastructure and promote the advancement of environmentally conscious companies. In doing so, we can collectively work towards a cleaner future without placing undue strain on individual travelers. (134 words)

From my perspective, I recken that the government should impose more penalties on the companies that cause environmental damage. This policy is beneficial for these companies to raise their awareness of protecting environment and force them to find the solution about it, such as transferring to eco-friendly materials and energy, and that is why I side with Claire. To be specifically, take the vehicles as an example. People used to take fuels as the energy of cars, however, the natural resource is unrenewable and the corbon dioxide it decomposed can contribute to global warming. However, after my country higher the price of fuels, many cars' companies converted to using electricity as the energy. Therefore, the environment of our city are improved significantly. As for what Andrew said, I think his argument and reasoning are insufficient. Even if some companies won't change their behavior, the government can utilize this extra money because of penalties to the environmental process.

In my opinion, the government should indeed impose stricter penalties on companies causing environmental damage. Implementing such policies would not only raise awareness about environmental protection but also compel these companies to seek eco-friendly solutions, such as transitioning to sustainable materials and energy sources. For instance, consider the automotive industry. Previously, vehicles predominantly relied on fossil fuels, an unsustainable resource that contributes to global warming through carbon dioxide emissions. However, when my country increased fuel prices, numerous car manufacturers shifted towards electric energy sources, resulting in significant improvements in our city's environment. While I acknowledge Andrew's concerns that some companies may not change their behavior despite penalties, the additional revenue generated from these fines could be allocated towards environmental initiatives and further promote sustainability.
