Dr. Diaz

This week we looked at how the cinema―the physical building where we watch films―has evolved over the years. Now, I want you to consider this question: with so many internet streaming services available for viewing films at home, do you think cinemas will cease to exist in the future? Will a time come when people stop going to cinemas entirely? Why or why not?

Paul

In my opinion, cinemas are here to stay. For thousands of years, people have been sharing the collective experience of watching a show, whether it was a live performance at a theater in ancient Greece or a recorded film in a cinema in today’s society. And they will continue to want that shared viewing experience.

Claire

I agree that cinemas are becoming obsolete, but I don’t think it’s because of technology. Many of the best films these days are being produced as ten- or twelve-part miniseries, with much more focus on character development. These productions are meant to be watched on television. You don’t need a big screen to enjoy them.

Due to the fact that technology can make people see films in their own houses, I think cinemas will cease to exist in the future. The development of technology allows people to buy cheap and good devices that can provide same experience as watching in the cinemas for people at houses. In the past, people have to spend money to buy tickets and cost lots of time to go to the cinemas to see the films, it will be more difficult for people who live in the countryside. Now, people can see excellent films in their own houses an anytime. It is so convient for people to see movies in their home that no one need to spend money to watch films in cinemas. While Paul has a point that cinemas can provide people for chance to share viewing experience, with the development of technology, people can easily share their instant ideas on the Internet. Therefore, they can have same experience at their own houses as in cinemas. In conclusion, that's why I think cinemas will cease exist in the future and people will stop going to cinemas entirely.

In light of the technological advancements enabling people to watch films at home, I believe that cinemas will eventually become obsolete. Affordable and high-quality devices are now available, providing a similar experience to that of movie theaters within the comfort of one's home. Previously, individuals had to spend money on tickets and allocate time for traveling to cinemas, posing difficulties for those residing in rural areas. Presently, viewers can enjoy exceptional films at their convenience without leaving their homes.

While Paul argues that cinemas offer a shared viewing experience, advancements in technology allow people to instantly share their thoughts online, thus replicating this collective experience at home. Consequently, I predict that cinemas will cease to exist in the future as people opt for more convenient alternatives. (127 words)

In addition to Paul's perspective on shared exprience that cinemas can provide, I would like to emphasize that cinmeas, serving as a platform full of people with same interests and inspirations, play a significant role in people' social life. Nowadays, people are indulged in their heavy workload, lacking means to make new friends and expand their social network. In such case, when people are watching movies in cinemas, they are likely to have similar reactions toward same plot, which can act as an ice brearker for strangers to start conversation and discuss about details in movies. Moreover, like Paul mentions, watching movies is a kind of collective exprience which can strike deep chords, thereby audiences are capable of extending their chat topic to other fields from movies, such as books, or lives, which increase the possibility for them to become friends.

From my perspective, when it comes to cinema, I find my thought is more in line with the Paul's opinion. Cinema will not disappear in the future. There are two reasons. First, cinema can bring public together. Take for instance, when I want to watch a movie with my friends, we often make a decision before we get cinema. We do a lot of surveys to investigate the film, such as searching for information, reading some reviews and watching some bloggers' opinions. Besides, we can have a better communication with each other about the movie. Second, cinema is a good way to relax and feel good. It is undeniable that technology can make people watch films at home. However, we need to walk outside with our families and friends, right? In my opinion, I believe cinema is a good excuse to ask your friends to walk outside and play together. Everyone can be beneficial from watching movie in cinema.

Section Title: The Future of Cinemas

In my view, cinemas will continue to thrive in the future, and I find myself resonating with Paul's perspective. There are two primary reasons for this belief. Firstly, cinemas foster a sense of community and shared experiences. For instance, when planning to watch a movie with friends, we often engage in extensive research beforehand, including gathering information, reading reviews, and seeking opinions from bloggers. This process not only enhances our anticipation but also facilitates meaningful discussions about the film.

Secondly, cinemas serve as an ideal means of relaxation and social interaction. While technological advancements have undoubtedly made it convenient to watch films at home, it is essential for individuals to venture outdoors and spend quality time with family and friends. In this regard, going to the cinema provides an excellent opportunity for social engagement and shared enjoyment. In response to Dr. Diaz's question, I firmly believe that cinemas will continue to hold their ground despite the proliferation of internet streaming services. Paul's argument resonates with me, as he emphasizes the unique collective experience that cinemas offer, allowing people to watch movies together and connect on a deeper level. This shared experience is something that streaming services cannot replicate. Additionally, cinemas are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that enhance the visual and auditory aspects of films, which is difficult to achieve through online streaming on personal devices.

While Claire raises a valid point regarding the increasing popularity of miniseries designed for television viewing, I contend that this does not negate the appeal of traditional cinema releases. There will always be a demand for exceptional movies produced in conventional formats. Therefore, considering these factors, I maintain that people will continue to frequent cinemas in the future. 6 文章修订

While Claire's assertion that the evolution of film into miniseries may contribute to the obsolescence of cinemas is valid, I firmly believe that cinemas will continue to thrive in the future. In addition to the points raised by Paul, I would like to emphasize that the unique and immersive experience offered by cinemas is a crucial factor in their enduring appeal.

Despite advancements in technology and the rise of streaming services, we have not witnessed a decline in cinema attendance. In fact, more people are opting to watch new films in theaters due to the superior experience they provide. Contemporary cinemas boast three-dimensional visuals and expansive screens that captivate audiences from all walks of life. Furthermore, they offer advanced audio systems that create an immersive and dynamic soundscape, which is typically unattainable for individual households. Cinemas provide city dwellers with unparalleled experiences, ensuring their continued relevance and success in the future. (157 words)

From my perspective, cinemas will still exist and a large number of people will choose to go to cinemas although many devices appear at home. This is because cinemas create a more fantastic experience with advanced service and cheap prices. With the development of technology, there are more and more devices both in cinemas and houses, but people cannot afford such expensive services and devices by themselves that their visual experiences at house are worse, compared to devices in cinemas. For instance, nowadays cinemas provide people with 3D glasses, surrounding sounds, and screens of tremendous size, which cannot be applied in an individual's house. Also, the price of these devices is too expensive to afford individuals, such as $3000 per device. On the contrary, in cinemas people only need to pay $30 to watch a film, which provides them with a chance to keep a balance between excellent experience and affordable price.

Section Title: The Future of Cinemas

In my view, cinemas will continue to thrive, as they offer a unique and immersive experience that cannot be replicated at home. Despite the prevalence of streaming services and advanced home entertainment systems, the allure of the cinema lies in its ability to provide a superior visual and auditory experience at an affordable cost. Technological advancements have indeed equipped both cinemas and homes with cutting-edge devices; however, the prohibitive costs associated with acquiring such equipment for personal use make it difficult for individuals to achieve comparable experiences in their own residences. For example, modern cinemas boast 3D glasses, surround sound systems, and massive screens that are not feasible for installation in a typical household. Furthermore, these devices can cost upwards of $3,000 each, making them financially inaccessible for most people. In contrast, a cinema ticket typically costs around $30—a small price to pay for an unparalleled viewing experience that strikes a balance between quality and affordability. (162 words)
