We are looking this week at different ways businesses market their products and services, especially nontraditional methods. One thing that marketers pay close attention to is online reviews of their products. A business might include customer reviews on their website or carefully monitor the reviews on third-partv sites. I would ike vou to discuss your own experiences with online reviews. Do you find them useful when deciding whether or not to buy a product or service? Explain why or why not, using details and examples.
Student A Claire
I think online reviews are a great source of information because they are written by ordinary customers who are like me. For instance, when Iread a restaurant review by a professional food critic,I'm not interested in some of the details that are included, like how the food is prepared. I'm more interested in aspects like the quality of the food and the service, which regular customers usually comment on.
Student B Andrew
To me online reviews have some real problems. First, people are more likely to post reviews after a bad experience than after a good one. As a result what vou read is often weighted toward the negative. Also, you have no way of knowing whether reviewers know what thev are talking about or even if they actually bought and used the product they are reviewing.

I firmly hold the idea that the online reviews are useful when deciding whether or not to buy a product or service due to the fact that consumers can gain a better understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of the product. To be more specific, the business marketers usually put only the good aspects of their products or services on their official websites. However, through the online reviews we are able to see some true disadvantages that are experienced by the customers, and knowing these information can help us make decision. For example, when I see some bad reviews about the looking of a product, but I value the quality of the product more, I can decide to buy this product because I do not care about the bad aspect of it.

In my opinion, online reviews play a crucial role in determining whether to purchase a product or service, as they provide a comprehensive understanding of the item's pros and cons. Businesses often highlight only the positive aspects of their offerings on official websites, while online reviews reveal genuine drawbacks experienced by customers. This additional information enables us to make well-informed decisions. For instance, if I come across negative reviews regarding a product's appearance but prioritize its quality, I can confidently choose to buy it despite the unfavorable feedback on its aesthetics.
