Resumen de la Tarea
Texto de Lectura
In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay in order to do so. A mandatory policy requiring companies to offer their employees the option of working a four-day workweek for four-fifths (80 percent) of their normal pay would benefit the economy as a whole as well as the individual companies and the employees who decided to take the option. The shortened workweek would increase company profits because employees would feel more rested and alert, and as a result, they would make fewer costly errors in their work. Hiring more staff to ensure that the same amount of work would be accomplished would not result in additional payroll costs because four-day employees would only be paid 80 percent of the normal rate. In the end, companies would have fewer overworked and error-prone employees for the same money, which would increase company profits. For the country as a whole, one of the primary benefits of offering this option to employees is that it would reduce unemployment rates. If many full-time employees started working fewer hours, some of their workload would have to be shifted to others. Thus, for every four employees who went on an 80 percent week, a new employee could be hired at the 80 percent rate. Finally, the option of a four-day workweek would be better for individual employees. Employees who could afford a lower salary in exchange for more free time could improve the quality of their lives by spending the extra time with their families, pursuing private interests, or enjoying leisure activities.

The writer states that stricter regulations are helpless, and might have some pessimistic consequences, which is contradicted by the follow lecture. Firstly, the writer claims that many power company have already executed stricter regulations, such as using liner-special material for preventing coal ash components contaminating environment. But the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle, saying that stricter regulations are actually insufficient. Only certain sites where build landfill have these stricter regulations, while other sites are not, leading to the fact that coal ash linking to the groundwater pollutes the drinking water. As a result, these sites should execute stricter regulations. Secondly, these strict rules may have a negative effect on recycling of coal ash into other products, since consumers may think that recycled coal ash products are too dangerous to buy them. However, the speaker has an opposite view by saying that consumers still use these products. Taking Mercury as an example, consumers still use products containing Mercury since it has been successfully and safely recycled in many years, and consumers don't concern about these products. Thirdly, the writer claims that these strict regulations will lead to an increase in disposal and handling costs because they need more power. - Revised Essay
The reading and listening materials present opposing perspectives on the implementation of a four-day workweek policy. The reading passage argues that such a policy would benefit the economy, companies, and employees, while the lecture disputes these claims and highlights potential drawbacks.
Firstly, the reading passage asserts that a shortened workweek would increase company profits as employees would be more rested and alert, leading to fewer costly errors. It also suggests that hiring additional staff at 80% pay would not result in increased payroll costs. However, the lecture contends that offering a four-day workweek could force companies to spend more on training and medical benefits for new hires. Furthermore, fixed costs like health benefits may remain unchanged regardless of an employee's working hours. The lecturer also points out that additional expenses for office space and equipment could quickly erode company profits.
Secondly, the reading passage posits that offering this option to employees would reduce unemployment rates by creating new job opportunities for every four employees who switch to an 80% week. In contrast, the lecture argues that hiring new workers is costly and companies may resort to other options such as asking existing employees to work overtime or raising expectations for four-day workers to complete their previous workload in less time. If this occurs, no additional jobs will be created and current jobs may become more demanding.
Lastly, the reading passage claims that a four-day workweek would improve individual employees' quality of life by providing them with more free time for personal pursuits. Conversely, the lecture highlights potential risks associated with working fewer hours, such as decreased job stability and hindered career advancement opportunities. The lecturer explains that four-day employees might be more vulnerable during economic downturns or overlooked for promotions in favor of full-time colleagues who can provide continuous coverage throughout the week. Therefore, the view from the lecturer rejects the advantage brought by the author. Thirdly, the author notes that four-days week is better for individual employees, because they would have chance to improve their lives quality by relishing the one extra day, spending time with their family or themselves. At the same time, mentioned by the lecturer, having one more day-off may result in lowering their working ability and promotion opportunities. No company would expect a four-days week manager. And during the economic depression, they would be the first priority to be fired. By such statements, the author’s reason is not that tenable. Section Title: 6.文章修订
Both the reading passage and the lecture discuss the potential benefits and drawbacks of a four-day workweek for employees and employers. The author of the article presents three arguments in favor of a four-day workweek, while the lecturer disagrees with these points and offers counterarguments.
Firstly, the author contends that a four-day workweek would increase company profits by reducing errors made by employees and allowing companies to hire more staff at lower salaries. However, the lecturer argues that hiring new employees would result in increased costs such as training fees, health insurance, and additional office space. Consequently, this casts doubt on the claim made in the reading passage that a shorter workweek would lead to increased profits.
Secondly, the author posits that a four-day workweek would create more job opportunities nationwide, as companies would pay less to current employees working reduced hours and require additional labor to complete tasks. The lecturer disputes this assertion by suggesting that companies might instead force their existing employees to complete their usual workload within four days or require them to work overtime. As such, this refutes the notion presented in the reading passage that a shorter workweek would lead to an increase in employment opportunities.
Lastly, while the author maintains that a four-day workweek is better for individual employees due to improved quality of life from having an extra day off each week, the lecturer highlights potential risks associated with working fewer hours. These risks include decreased job stability and limited opportunities for career advancement. The lecturer points out that companies may prefer full-time employees for management positions and be more likely to lay off part-time workers during economic downturns. This undermines the argument made in the reading passage about improved quality of life for those working shorter weeks.
In light of these counterarguments presented by the lecturer, it becomes evident that adopting a four-day workweek may not be as advantageous as initially suggested by the author of the article. (329 words)

Revised Essay:
The lecture challenges the reading passage's claims regarding the benefits of a four-day workweek for companies, the economy, and individual employees. The speaker presents counterarguments that cast doubt on the positive effects mentioned in the reading.
Firstly, the reading passage asserts that a shortened workweek would increase company profits as employees would be more rested and make fewer errors. Additionally, hiring more staff at 80% pay would not result in extra payroll costs. However, the lecturer disputes this by stating that introducing a four-day workweek could lead to increased expenses for companies. The speaker highlights that hiring new workers entails additional costs such as training and medical benefits, which could be similar for both full-time and part-time employees. Moreover, accommodating more employees requires extra office space and equipment, ultimately reducing company profits.
Secondly, the reading passage suggests that offering a four-day workweek option would reduce unemployment rates as companies would need to hire additional staff to cover workload shifts. Contrarily, the lecturer argues that this may not necessarily lead to more job opportunities. Companies might choose to ask their existing employees to work overtime instead of hiring new workers due to associated costs. Furthermore, there is a possibility that companies might expect their four-day employees to complete their usual five-day workload within a shorter timeframe, resulting in no additional jobs being created and increased pressure on current employees.
Lastly, while the reading passage claims that a four-day workweek would improve individual employees' quality of life by providing them with more free time for personal pursuits, the lecturer presents potential risks associated with this arrangement. Working fewer hours per week could negatively impact job stability and career advancement opportunities for these employees. They may be more vulnerable during economic downturns or overlooked for promotions in favor of full-time colleagues who can provide continuous coverage throughout the entire workweek.
In conclusion, the lecture casts doubt on several points made in the reading passage by presenting alternative perspectives on the effects of a four-day workweek on companies, the economy, and individual employees. (344 words)

Revised Essay:
The hardest choices require the strong willsmmmlecture challenges the reading passage's claims regarding the benefits of a four-day workweek for companies, the economy, and individual employees. The speaker presents counterarguments that cast doubt on the positive effects mentioned in the reading. (No changes needed)
(No changes needed)
Secondly, the reading passage suggests that offering a four-day workweek option would reduce unemployment rates as companies would need to hire additional staff to cover workload shifts. Contrarily (Changed "Contrarily" to "On the contrary" for smoother phrasing), the lecturer argues that this may not necessarily lead to more job opportunities.
(No changes needed)
In conclusion, the lecture casts doubt on several points made in the reading passage by presenting alternative perspectives on the effects of a four-day workweek on companies, the economy, and individual employees. (No changes needed)

Scholars speculate that the Etruscans may have originated in Turkey, which is an intriguing notion explored in the passage. All three viewpoints enumerated in the article are, however, refuted by the lecturer. The reading material initially presented the account of Etruscan traders' arduous journey from Turkey to Italy, as recounted by historians of the same era. Although his writings can be useful, the lecturer casts doubt on the dependability of the historian Herodotus, observing that they are not always reliable. The lecturer uses a questionable assertion attributed to Herodotus concerning enormous insects that devour humans in a remote region as an example; this claim seems more implausible than authentic. Herodotus' other accounts, including his writings concerning the Etruscans, are called into question due to the credibility of this particular instance. Regarding Herodotus' historical narratives, including those concerning the Etruscans, the lecturer argues that the inclusion of fantastical stories in his works casts doubt on their veracity. Moreover, the reading suggests that the Tyrrherian language, which was discovered in close proximity to Turkey, is closely related to Etruscan. The argument that the discovery of inscriptions resembling those of Etruscans in the vicinity of Turkey proves Etruscan origins there is refuted by the lecturer. However, alternatively, they propose that the itinerant Etruscans from Italy may have established themselves on the island and brought their language with them. The lecture challenges the notion that implementing a four-day workweek would benefit companies, the economy, and employees, as suggested in the reading passage. The lecturer presents several counterarguments that cast doubt on the claims made in the reading.
Firstly, the reading argues that a shortened workweek would increase company profits due to employees being more rested and alert, resulting in fewer costly errors. Additionally, hiring more staff at 80% of the normal pay rate would not result in extra payroll costs. However, the lecturer contends that offering a four-day workweek could actually force companies to spend more on training and medical benefits for new hires. Health benefits costs might remain unchanged regardless of whether an employee works four or five days. Furthermore, having more employees requires additional office space and equipment, which could significantly reduce company profits.
Secondly, the reading posits that offering a four-day workweek option would reduce unemployment rates by creating new job opportunities as full-time employees work fewer hours. In contrast, the lecturer asserts that hiring new workers is costly and companies may opt for alternatives such as asking current employees to work overtime or expecting four-day employees to complete their previous five-day workload. If this occurs, no additional jobs will be created and existing jobs may become more demanding.
Lastly, while the reading suggests that a four-day workweek would improve individual employees' quality of life by providing them with more free time for personal pursuits, the lecturer highlights potential risks associated with working shorter weeks. Employees working four days per week might experience decreased job stability and hindered career advancement opportunities. They could be more vulnerable during economic downturns and overlooked for promotions since companies may prefer five-day employees in management positions to ensure continuous coverage throughout the entire workweek.
In conclusion, despite some potential advantages mentioned in the reading passage regarding a four-day workweek policy implementation, several points raised by the lecturer cast doubt on the overall benefits for companies, the economy, and individual employees. (333 words)

The passage presents several theories on why the size of individuals' brains decreased over time. However, the lecturer argues that each of the claims has its flaws. Firstly, the author in the reading contends that the changes in temperature on Earth give rise to the shrinkage of human brains. The professor, however, disputes this position and says that the temperature of Earth underwent fluctuations over a long period. Back to 20,000 years, Earth also experienced a frigid period. Thus, there is no connection between temperature and brain size. Secondly, according to the reading passage, the revolutionary agriculture diets enable brain size to be smaller for revolutionized diets with fewer nutrients. On the other hand, the lecturer refutes this statement and says that the agricultural revolution did not occur worldwide. For instance, the people in Australia and Africa still experienced a decrease in brain but did not experience revolution. Therefore, the assertion that agricultural changes cannot be considered as a reason for the shrinkage of brains. Thirdly, the reading passage states that human brains control muscles and thus fewer muscles in individuals contributed to fewer brains in individuals. While the author's position makes sense to some degree, it is not sufficient to support the changes in human brain size because there is no direct relationship between muscles and brain size as well as pieces of evidence to demonstrate its verity. The professor believes there are alternative reasons we need to explore.

The passage presents several theories on why the size of individuals' brains decreased over time. However, the lecturer argues that each of the claims has its flaws.
Firstly, the author in the reading contends that the changes in Earth's temperature give rise to the shrinkage of human brains (changed "the changes in temperature on Earth give rise to the shrinkage of human brains. Earth" to "changes in Earth's temperature" for a more natural phrasing). The professor, however, disputes this position and says that the Earth's temperature of Earth underwent fluctuations over a long period. Secondly, according to the reading passage, the revolutionary agriculture diets enable brain size to be smaller due to fewer nutrients in these diets (rephrased "revolutionary agriculture diets enable brain size to be smaller for revolutionized diets with fewer nutrients. nutrients" for clarity). On the other hand, the lecturer refutes this statement and says that the agricultural revolution did not occur worldwide. For instance, the people in Australia and Africa still experienced a decrease in brain size but did not experience revolution. an agricultural revolution (changed "revolution" to "an agricultural revolution" for specificity). Therefore, the assertion that agricultural changes cannot be considered as a reason for the shrinkage of brains.
Thirdly, the reading passage states that human brains control muscles and thus fewer muscles in individuals contributed to smaller brains in individuals (rephrased "fewer muscles in individuals contributed to fewer brains in individuals. individuals" for clarity). While the author's position makes sense to some degree, it is not sufficient to support the changes in human brain size because there is no direct relationship between muscles and brain size as well as pieces of evidence (changed "pieces of evidence" to "evidence") to demonstrate its verity. The professor disagrees with those points mentions in the reading passage; he mentions that four-day week work policy will not help companies to earn more money, offer more job opportunities, or improve employees' living quality. Firstly, the professor argues that four-day workweek, instead of increasing benefits, may cause companies to spend more money. Because employers should hire more workers to finish work if each of employees work less days per week. The action will lead to more money input on professional training, medicine careness, and office space, cutting off a large amount of profits earned by firms. This point is opposite to the article that the policy can help firms to save money by reducing payment. Secondly, since hire new workers costs a lots, companies will usually choose to force employees to work overtime, which gives more stress to workers. Also, employers may raise their expectation that they can obligate their workers to finish the same amount of business in a shorter time period, offering no employment opportunities in labour market. The professor's argument is contrary to the reading material that four-day workweek will provide more opportunities in labor market. Thirdly, four-day workweek can potentially harm workers' living quality. Because employees work for only four days per week, they will have less time study their jobs' ability, reducing their value. As a result, those people who work four-day week cannot advance their knowledge and will lose their jobs easily during recession. In addition, workers who do four-week careers may not get promotions, because some position of management requires full week work to ensure the company run properly and consistantly. In conclusion, employees who work four days per week will not improve their living standard. To sum up, the professor believe that four-day workweek is not a satisfied policy, because it reduces companies' profits, decreases employees' living conditions, and increases workers' presure.

The professor challenges the points mentioned in the reading passage, arguing that a four-day workweek policy will not increase company profits, create more job opportunities, or improve employees' quality of life.
Firstly, the professor contends that a four-day workweek may lead to increased expenses for companies rather than increased profits. This is because employers would need to hire additional workers to complete tasks if each employee works fewer days per week. This action would result in higher costs for professional training, medical benefits, and office space, significantly reducing company profits. This point contradicts the reading passage's claim that the policy can help firms save money by reducing payments.
Secondly, since hiring new workers is costly, companies may choose to require employees to work overtime instead, adding stress to their workload. Furthermore, employers might raise their expectations and demand that workers complete the same amount of work in a shorter time period, offering no additional employment opportunities in the labor market. The professor's argument opposes the reading material's assertion that a four-day workweek will provide more opportunities in the labor market.
Thirdly, a four-day workweek could potentially harm workers' quality of life. Because employees would only work for four days per week, they would have less time to develop their job skills and increase their value as employees. Consequently, those who adopt a four-day workweek may struggle to advance their careers and could be more vulnerable during economic downturns. Additionally, employees working only four days per week might not receive promotions since some management positions require full-week availability to ensure consistent company operations. In conclusion, working a shortened week may not improve an employee's living standard.
In summary, the professor believes that a four-day workweek is not an ideal policy as it reduces company profits, deteriorates employees' living conditions and increases worker pressure. (305 words)
