Professor
This week we looked at how the cinema-the physical building where we watch films-has evolved over the years. Now, I want you to consider this question: with so many internet streaming services available for viewing films at home, do you think cinemas will cease to exist in the future? Will a time come when people stop going to cinemas entirely? Why or why not?
Paul
In my opinion, cinemas are here to stay. For thousands of years, people have been sharing the collective experience of watching a show, whether it was a live performance at a theater in ancient Greece or a recorded film in a cinema in today's society. And they will continue to want that shared viewing experience.
Claire
I agree that cinemas are becoming obsolete, but I don't think it's because of technology. Many of the best films these days are being produced as ten- or twelve-part miniseries, with much more focus on character development. These productions are meant to be watched on television. You don't need a big screen to enjoy them.

In my opinion, cinemas will never cease to exist in the future. In addition to Paul's perspective that people have lots of shared collective experience, I would also point out that watching movie in the cinema can bring people a special atmosphere and vibe that cannot gain from watching movie alone. From my personal experience, watching movie in cinema can let me have a better recreational experience, and I even think that the movie is more amazing compared to solely watch the movie. Also, a increasing number of couples or friends will be more likely to choose go to see movie in cinema as an enjoyable activity, to strengthen their personal relationship. Claire also raised the relevant opinion that lots of films do not need a big screen to enjoy. However, she failed to mention that some 3D films need the unique techniques to watch, in order to perform a better scenery view. Consequently, I believe that watching movie in cinemas is a paramount approach of entertainments. Cinemas will never cease to exist.

I firmly believe that cinemas will continue to thrive in the future. In addition to Paul's assertion regarding the long-standing tradition of shared collective experiences, I would like to emphasize the unique atmosphere and ambiance that a cinema offers, which cannot be replicated through solitary home viewing. Personally, I find that watching a film in a cinema enhances my overall enjoyment and appreciation of the movie. Furthermore, many individuals increasingly opt for a cinematic experience as a means of bonding with friends or loved ones.
While Claire correctly points out that numerous contemporary films are designed for television viewing and do not require a large screen, she overlooks the fact that certain productions, particularly 3D films, necessitate specialized technology to fully immerse viewers in their captivating visuals. As such, cinemas remain an indispensable medium for experiencing these types of movies. In conclusion, I am confident that cinemas will persist as an essential form of entertainment and will not become obsolete in the foreseeable future. (168 words)
