Doctor Diaz

We’ve been discussing ways that parents can help prepare their teenage children for adulthood. One line of thinking is that parents should encourage their teenagers to take part-time jobs to help them learn to be responsible, even if it is not an economic necessity for the teenagers to work. What are your thoughts on the issue? Should parents urge teenage children to get a job? Why or why not?

Claire

Teenagers should work part-time. When I was 16, I washed dishes at a restaurant, and I’m glad I did. I learned a lot about time management. I had to use my free time wisely to make sure I could complete homework despite spending time working at a job. This is a valuable life skill.

Andrew

I would have to disagree. A teenager is still just a kid, and in my opinion, a kid needs to focus on going to school and learning. A job would be an unnecessary distraction. If it’s all about learning responsibility, I think there are a lot of other ways to do that without the commitment required by a job.

While I can see Andrew's viewpoint that the part-time job is an unnecessary distraction, I find myself more aligned with Claire's perspective that part-time job places teenagers as greater beneficiaries. As Claire mentioned, the juveniles acquire both work experience and life skills from the prat-time job. With diverse part-time job, teenagers could apply the expertise gained from school into practice, learn more basic living skills and make their life more manageable, which benefits them in the long run. In addition, I add that the part-time job could help children cultivate leadership, become responsible for families, which in turn elevate their living standard in the future. Thus, the teenagers, undoutedly, reach and harvest the benefits from the part-time job.

In acknowledging Andrew's concern that part-time jobs may pose as unnecessary distractions for teenagers, I find myself more inclined towards Claire's stance, which emphasizes the valuable life skills and experiences gained through such employment. As Claire illustrated, part-time jobs enable young individuals to apply their academic knowledge in practical settings while simultaneously acquiring essential life skills, ultimately fostering a more well-rounded development. Furthermore, I contend that these jobs can also cultivate leadership qualities and a sense of responsibility towards their families, thereby enhancing their future prospects and overall quality of life. Consequently, the advantages reaped from part-time employment undoubtedly outweigh any potential drawbacks for teenagers. (110 words)

The debate surrounding whether parents should encourage their children to pursue part-time jobs has become a prevalent topic. While Claire's perspective emphasizes the development of life skills through part-time work, I firmly believe that students should not engage in such jobs, as the drawbacks stemming from mental pressure outweigh the benefits.

To elaborate, children already face significant pressure from their academic responsibilities. If they are expected to take on a job as well, they will have little time to relax and alleviate their stress. Consequently, they may encounter various mental health issues, potentially leading to depression and severe consequences such as self-harm or suicide.

Hence, in light of these potential risks, I strongly advocate against pushing children into part-time employment. Instead, we should prioritize providing them with a happy and stress-free environment during their formative years. (139 words)

Admittedly, Andrew's viewpoint is reasonable, but I am inclined to agree more with Claire's opinion that teenagers should work part-time. From my perspective, there are two advantages for parents to encourage teenage children to get a job. First, working part-time can make teenagers more value the time they are studying. During they are working, they can realize that working is harder than learning knowledge. Thus, they will be more motivative to study harder and get good scores, which has benefit to improve their competitiveness in the job market when they truly have to find a job. Moreover, taking part-time job can make teenagers realize money is valuable. They can find that gain one dollar is more difficult than they image. In that case, they will decrease unnecessary payments to save money.

While Andrew's perspective holds merit, I am more inclined to support Claire's stance that teenagers should engage in part-time work. In my opinion, there are two primary benefits to parents encouraging their teenage children to secure employment.

Firstly, part-time work can instill a greater appreciation for the time spent on education in teenagers. As they experience the challenges of working, they may come to understand that acquiring knowledge is comparatively less demanding. Consequently, this realization may motivate them to study more diligently and achieve higher grades, ultimately enhancing their competitiveness in the job market when they eventually seek full-time employment.

Secondly, part-time jobs can teach teenagers the value of money. Through earning their own income, they will likely discover that making money is more difficult than they initially imagined. This newfound understanding may prompt them to reduce unnecessary expenditures and adopt more responsible spending habits. (148 words)

In my view, part-time jobs can provide working experiences and help them prepared for adulthood. Working teaches essential skills like time management, money management and personal responsibility. It exposes the teenagers to workplace dynamics and help them understand the professional expectation. Additionally, I am inclined to point out that part-time jobs can help teenagers develop several useful skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving, and time management, which are momentous and indispensable for teenagers to improve themselves. Andrew argues that a teenager shouldn't get a job because a teenager need to focus on going to school and academic work. But I would like to emphasize that students can take part-time jobs during the holiday time, which won't disturb their school work. My personal experience aligns closely with Claire's viewpoint, for instance, I took a job teaching younger children during the summer holiday, and I found it very useful, which helped me improve myself by providing oppotunities to experience a job as a teacher. In conclusion, part-time jobs wield a great impact on teenagers in many ways.

Exemplo de Usuário

In response to Dr. Diaz's question regarding whether parents should encourage their teenage children to obtain employment, I would argue against this notion. First and foremost, today's adolescents are already overwhelmed with numerous responsibilities, such as schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and supplementary courses. Many students find themselves occupied until late at night, leaving little room for additional commitments. For example, my own schedule is filled from morning to evening with school assignments, advanced mathematics classes, piano lessons, and English tutoring sessions. Adding a job to this already demanding schedule would likely exacerbate the stress and fatigue experienced by many teenagers. While I acknowledge Claire's assertion that employment can help individuals develop time management skills, I believe that contemporary adolescents have already honed these abilities through balancing their academic and extracurricular pursuits. The experiences of today's youth differ significantly from those of previous generations; in the past, children and teenagers were often exploited as cheap labor rather than encouraged to excel academically. Consequently, Claire's anecdotal evidence from her own youth may not serve as an appropriate model for the current generation of students. Shit

3. Task completeness

The essay effectively addresses the task requirements by expressing a clear opinion and contributing to the discussion with well-supported arguments. However, there are some minor grammatical errors that need to be corrected, such as the inappropriate use of the word "Shit" at the end of the essay. Additionally, more elaboration on certain points could further strengthen the argument.

Suggestions for improvement:

  • Remove inappropriate language.

  • Provide more specific examples or details to support your viewpoint.

Examples in English:

  1. Instead of using "Shit" at the end of your essay, you can conclude with a summary statement like, "In conclusion, considering the demanding schedules and responsibilities of today's teenagers, it is not advisable for them to take up employment."

  2. To provide more specific examples or details, you can mention statistics or studies that show how teenagers' mental health is affected by excessive workload due to school and extracurricular activities.

4. Essay structure and organization

The essay has a clear structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The ideas are logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific point supported by relevant details. However, transitions between ideas could be improved for better coherence.

Suggestions for improvement:

  • Use transitional phrases or words to connect ideas smoothly.

  • Ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that introduces its main idea.

Examples in English:

  1. To improve transitions between ideas, you can use phrases like "Furthermore," "On the other hand," or "In addition" at the beginning of sentences.

  2. For clearer topic sentences in paragraphs, consider revising sentences like this: "While I acknowledge Claire's assertion that employment can help individuals develop time management skills, I believe that contemporary adolescents have already honed these abilities through balancing their academic and extracurricular pursuits." to "Despite the potential benefits of employment in developing time management skills, contemporary adolescents have already honed these abilities through balancing their academic and extracurricular pursuits."

3. Task completeness

The essay effectively addresses the specific requirements of the task by expressing a clear opinion on whether parents should encourage their teenage children to obtain employment. The writer supports their viewpoint with relevant examples and contributes to the discussion by acknowledging another student's perspective. However, there is room for improvement in terms of providing more concrete evidence or statistics to strengthen the argument.

Example 1: To further support your argument, you could provide research findings or statistics that show how excessive workload can negatively impact teenagers' mental health and academic performance.

Example 2: You could also discuss alternative ways for teenagers to develop essential life skills, such as time management and responsibility, without adding the burden of employment.

4. Essay structure and organization

The essay has a clear structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The ideas are logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific point supported by relevant details. However, there is room for improvement in terms of transitions between ideas and paragraphs.

Example 1: To improve transitions between ideas, you could use phrases like "On the other hand," "Furthermore," or "In addition" to help guide the reader through your argument.

Example 2: You could also restructure your conclusion to better summarize your main points and reiterate your stance on the issue. For instance, you might say something like "In conclusion, while some may argue that part-time employment can teach valuable life skills, it is crucial to consider the already demanding schedules faced by today's teenagers before encouraging them to take on additional responsibilities."

In response to Dr. Diaz's question concerning whether parents should encourage their teenage children to seek employment, I would argue against this proposition. Primarily, today's adolescents are already inundated with numerous responsibilities, such as academic coursework, extracurricular activities, and supplementary courses. Many students find themselves engaged until late at night, leaving little room for additional commitments. For instance, my own schedule is packed from morning to evening with school assignments, advanced mathematics classes, piano lessons, and English tutoring sessions. Incorporating a job into this already demanding timetable would likely intensify the stress and fatigue experienced by many teenagers.

While I recognize Claire's contention that employment can foster the development of time management skills, I maintain that contemporary adolescents have already refined these abilities through balancing their scholastic and extracurricular endeavors. The experiences of today's youth differ markedly from those of previous generations; historically, children and teenagers were often exploited as inexpensive labor rather than encouraged to excel academically. As a result, Claire's anecdotal evidence from her own youth may not serve as a suitable paradigm for the current generation of students. (186 words)

In my opinion, it is essential for parents to encourage their teenagers to pursue part-time jobs, as these opportunities can provide invaluable life experiences and contribute to their personal development. Part-time jobs allow adolescents to gain a deeper understanding of the working world and clarify their career aspirations.

To illustrate, firsthand experience in a job setting can reveal aspects of a profession that might not be apparent from an outsider's perspective. For example, I initially believed that I possessed strong communication skills and the ability to handle emergencies effectively. However, my summer job at a restaurant challenged these assumptions, as I encountered difficulties in addressing customer complaints and responding to unexpected incidents such as broken glassware or injured patrons.

While some may argue that education should be the primary focus for teenagers, as Andrew suggests, it is important to recognize that continuous learning can lead to fatigue and decreased concentration. Engaging in activities outside of academics allows young people to maintain balance in their lives and develop skills beyond the classroom.

In conclusion, part-time jobs play a crucial role in fostering personal growth among teenagers. Encouraging adolescents to participate in such opportunities can significantly enhance their overall development and prepare them for future success. (207 words)

I concur with Andrew that teenagers are unsuitable for part-time jobs, albeit for a different rationale. Nowadays, as the pressure from school becomes increasing high, many teenagers struggle to deal with the overwhelming amount of assignments. Consequently, it is not feasible to ask teenagers to divert their time and complete a part-time job, which requires both physical and mental devotion. Although Claire mentioned a valid benefit of taking a part-time job, this benefit is trivial compared to the negative impacts taking a part-time job would have on teenagers, including insufficient sleep or psychological problems due to overwhelming work load. Moreover, those training programs can cover all aspects of the workplace more comprehensively, enabling students to learn efficiently rather than learning inefficiently from mistakes.

Moreover, those training programs can cover all aspects of the workplace more comprehensively, enabling students to learn efficiently rather than learning inefficiently from mistakes.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision

I agree with Andrew that part-time jobs may not be suitable for teenagers, although my reasoning differs. In today's world, academic pressure on students has significantly increased, causing many teenagers to struggle with managing their workload. As a result, it is impractical to expect them to allocate time and energy towards a part-time job that demands both physical and mental commitment. While Claire highlights the value of learning time management through part-time work, this advantage pales in comparison to the potential negative consequences, such as sleep deprivation or psychological issues stemming from an overwhelming workload.

Furthermore, it is not essential for teenagers to gain work experience through part-time jobs, as numerous universities offer free training programs. These programs provide invaluable information about future careers at no cost to the students. Additionally, these training opportunities cover various aspects of the workplace more comprehensively than a part-time job might, allowing students to learn efficiently rather than through trial and error. While Claire highlights the value of learning time management through part-time work, this advantage pales in comparison to the potential negative consequences, such as sleep deprivation or psychological issues stemming from an overwhelming amount of assignments. Consequently, workload (revised sentence structure for clarity).

Furthermore, it is not feasible to ask essential for teenagers to divert their time and complete a part-time job, which requires both physical and mental devotion. Although Claire mentioned a valid benefit of taking a part-time job, this benefit is trivial compared to the negative impacts taking a part-time job would have on teenagers, including insufficient sleep or psychological problems due to overwhelming gain work load. ¶ Additionally, teenagers do not actually need the working experience obtained through working, since a majority of part-time jobs, as numerous universities are offering offer free training program, from which students could gain programs (clarified the point being made). These programs provide invaluable infromation concerning their information about future careers, without any charge. Moreover, those careers at no cost to the students. Additionally, these training programs can opportunities cover all various aspects of the workplace more comprehensively, enabling comprehensively than a part-time job might (improved sentence flow), allowing students to learn efficiently rather than learning inefficiently from mistakes.through trial and error (rephrased for clarity).

In response to the professor’s inquiry, I tend to agree with Andrew that a teenager should not be distracted by a part-time job. I base my conclusion on the following reasons: First, as Andrew points out, teenagers should fully focus on study since they all face the challenge of entering a good university which is the most crucial thing for many high school students. As we all know, entering a decent university requires good grades. Therefore, they should not be distracted by other activities that require extensive commitment, such as working as part-time employees. They should concentrate on studying completely instead. Only in this way, they have the chance to fulfill their dream of going to a good university. Furthermore, part-time work may increase the pressure teenagers encounter nowadays. As we all know, teenagers are fully occupied with studying, such as doing homework, completing group-projects, giving presentations in class and preparing for and taking exams. Additional work will definitely increase their workload, they have to spare time from their busy schedule to do part-time jobs which could make them feel exhausted. Continuously living under such a hectic schedule may easily make them burn out. To sum up, I firmly believe requiring teenagers have part-time job is not a good choice.

Section Title: The Impact of Part-Time Jobs on Teenagers

In response to the professor's inquiry, I concur with Andrew's assertion that teenagers should not be burdened by part-time jobs. My stance is based on the following rationale: Firstly, as Andrew highlights, teenagers must prioritize their education, as securing admission to a reputable university is a critical objective for many high school students. Achieving this goal necessitates maintaining excellent academic performance; thus, they should not be sidetracked by extracurricular commitments that demand significant time and energy, such as part-time employment. Instead, their primary focus should be on their studies to maximize their chances of realizing their aspirations.

Moreover, engaging in part-time work could exacerbate the stress that teenagers already face in today's fast-paced academic environment. It is well-known that adolescents grapple with numerous scholastic responsibilities, including homework assignments, group projects, class presentations, and exam preparation. Introducing additional employment obligations into their already hectic schedules could lead to exhaustion and burnout. Consequently, I firmly believe that mandating part-time jobs for teenagers is an ill-advised proposition. (173 words)

I don’t think teenagers should have part-time jobs no matter what the purpose is. Claire says that she learned how to manage her time by trying to finish her homework while having to spend quite some time doing her job in a restaurant, but the time management can be developed as long as you do multitask, and it doesn’t have to be studying while doing a part-time job. Preparing for a couple of important exams, for example, can help students learn to schedule their time well too. Andrew’s opinion makes more sense to me, for teenagers really have too much going on in their life and studies, and the last thing they need is a distraction. Since students can make money from their part-time jobs, some of them would even do it too much just for saving money to buy something like an iPhone. That can be a real distraction and not good for their studies.

In my opinion, teenagers should not engage in part-time jobs, regardless of their intentions. While Claire argues that her part-time job at a restaurant taught her time management skills, I believe that such skills can be acquired through other means that do not involve employment. For instance, preparing for multiple important exams can also teach students effective time management. I find Andrew's perspective more compelling, as teenagers already face numerous challenges in their personal lives and academic pursuits. Introducing a part-time job into the mix could serve as an unnecessary distraction.
