Charitable giving -that is, the voluntary donation of money to charities--is important in many societies. Some people prefer to give to charities that provide help all over the world, while others prefer to give to local charities that focus on solving problems in the giver's own community. For individuals who want to give to only one of those types of charities, international or local, which is the better choice? Why?

Andrew

By donating to a local charity, such as a shelter that helps homeless animals, you can visit the shelter and see for yourself how donations are being used to confirm that your money is being well spent. You may even be encouraged to give more because you were able to witness the positive effects your contribution had on the organization.

Claire

it is more effective to donate money to international charities that work on issues that affect us all, such as the effects of climate change. Some charities that operate on a large scale have influenced national governments to adjust their air and water pollution policies, which is a great way to make a big impact

例如,“local charities tend to reinforce existing community advantages” 可以改为 “local charities may inadvertently perpetuate existing community advantages”。

Section Title: 6

In my perspective, allocating resources to international charities ensures that one's contributions have a broader and more equitable influence. International organizations frequently target underprivileged areas grappling with urgent issues such as food scarcity, health emergencies, and limited access to education. By supporting these charities, we can help address global disparities. Conversely, local charities often perpetuate existing community benefits rather than fostering fairness.

Although I acknowledge Andrew's preference for local charities, I contend that he neglects the global systemic obstacles that warrant an international strategy. Restricting charitable efforts to one's immediate surroundings does not confront the underlying structures that perpetuate inequality on a worldwide scale. I maintain that we have an obligation to endorse international initiatives aimed at empowering disadvantaged populations across the globe.

Ultimately, contributing to prominent international charities enables one's donations to promote more balanced progress through targeted assistance worldwide. By championing international endeavors, our contributions can achieve a wider and fairer impact in the pursuit of global justice. (164 words)
