Professor
As we’ve previously discussed, sorting and recycling home waste can significantly help reduce pollution and preserve our environment. Though it has become a standard practice in some countries, many people believe that we haven’t done enough, and the only way to increase recycling is for governments to enforce strict policies on recycling. Say, if you don’t recycle your trash, you may get fined, or even break the law. What’s your perspective on this?
Mia
I do think strict policies or legal requirement is the only way to raise the recycling rate. Making laws work well in many fields, because people tend to avoid legal consequences or financial punishment. If there is no strict regulation, most people won’t take it seriously.
Joshua
Admittedly, government intervention is an important factor in this issue. However, it’s not necessarily the only means out there. I think that education can promote recycling in a more fundamental way because people would do it if they know they are doing the right thing.

I agree with Joshua that education is more important than instense government intervention on recycling and sorting home waste. Indeed, legislation can be important, however it also causes side effects. In fact, if a government implement tough policies in order to force citizens to do recycling and sorting, many people won't consider it right but bothering. Moreover, it will put a tension between the government and citizens. Because citizens can't understand the urgency of these policies, and they think that the government is robbing their interests. They may wonder why they must be fined just because they didn't throw the trash in the right rubbish bin. So education is essential since it teaches citizens to be awared of the meaning of these movements. For example, Shanghai used to carry out a policy that citizens must do sorting or they would be fined. It was too sudden that many people couldn't agree with it, which made the policy difficult to implement. The government than decided to do some propagenda work in order to educate citizens, making them follow the policy self-consciously.

Section Title: The Role of Education in Recycling and Waste Management
I concur with Joshua's assertion that education plays a more crucial role than stringent government intervention in promoting recycling and sorting of household waste. While legislation can be instrumental, it may also yield unintended consequences. For instance, imposing strict policies to compel citizens to recycle and sort waste might lead to resentment, as individuals may perceive these measures as burdensome rather than beneficial. Furthermore, such policies could strain the relationship between the government and its citizens, as the latter may fail to grasp the urgency behind these regulations and view them as an infringement on their rights. They might question the rationale behind being penalized for not disposing of trash in designated bins.
Education is vital in fostering awareness about the significance of recycling and waste management initiatives. A case in point is Shanghai's previous policy mandating waste sorting or face fines. The abrupt nature of this policy led to widespread disagreement among residents, making implementation challenging. Recognizing this obstacle, the government opted for a more educational approach through public awareness campaigns, which ultimately encouraged citizens to adhere to the policy voluntarily. While Mia's argument for implementing strict policies as the sole method to increase recycling may initially appear persuasive, particularly when considering evidence from other countries, I believe that a multifaceted approach is more effective in raising recycling rates. For example, communities could establish reward policies to encourage and heighten individuals' awareness of recycling. When one person receives a reward for their efforts, it is likely that their neighbors will follow suit. Additionally, incorporating recycling education in schools can have a significant impact on children who often share their newfound knowledge with their families, thereby promoting recycling awareness within the household. Consequently, I contend that governments have various options at their disposal to increase recycling rates without solely relying on strict policies that may strain relationships with citizens. In response to the professor's thought-provoking problem, I firmly believe that treating this issue financially is not a long-term solution. Firstly, I concur with Joshua's viewpoint that using the educational method to promote recycling awareness, enables individuals to understand this problem essantially. furthermore, I would like to emphasize that people nowadays lack the knowledge of recycling because of insufficient environmental education in schools. By being compelled to study traditional courses like Math or English, people seldom have opportunities to learn about environmental pollution causing global warming or the devastation of biodiversity or something like that. Therefore, if the local government could add compulsory classes including the importance of recycling, individuals would gain a better understanding of this issue, which would lead them to recycle their waste actively.

I believe it's essential for governments to enforce strict policies or laws on recycling, as it's the most effective way to contribute to recycling waste. To elaborate, albeit the consequences of pollution, many people still don't conduct the recycling work because they do not view it necessary or vital. If strict policies or laws are implemented, people would think about the results, such as getting fined, if they don't recycle waste, thus getting more motivated for recycling. For example, a study conducted by the University of Michigan found that individuals living in areas with strict policies on recycling are 60% more likely to recycle their waste compared to those residing in areas where these policies don't exist. Such consequences are beneficial not only to the environment but also to people's own lives. Admittedly, some may argue that strict law is not necessarily the only way to reach the goal. However, it's important to consider the long-term effects of strict policies. Were there not the strict laws, people would lack motivation to recycle waste regardless of the existence of other measures. Therefore, I believe implementing strict laws is the only way to ensure recycling.

Therefore, I believe implementing strict laws is the only way to ensure recycling.
Title: 6 文章修订
I am convinced that implementing strict policies or laws on recycling is crucial, as it serves as the most effective method to encourage waste recycling.
To elaborate, despite the detrimental effects of pollution, numerous individuals neglect to recycle because they do not perceive it as essential or critical. The enforcement of stringent policies or laws would prompt people to consider the consequences, such as fines, if they fail to recycle waste, thus motivating them to engage in recycling. For instance, a study conducted by the University of Michigan revealed that individuals residing in areas with strict recycling policies are 60% more likely to recycle their waste compared to those living in areas without such regulations. These outcomes prove advantageous not only for the environment but also for people's well-being.
While some may argue that strict legislation is not necessarily the sole solution to achieve increased recycling rates, it is vital to contemplate the long-term effects of such policies. In the absence of stringent laws, people would lack the motivation to recycle waste despite other available measures. Consequently, I firmly believe that enforcing strict laws is indispensable in ensuring widespread recycling practices. (194 words)
