Texto de Lectura

Recipes from Home As part of an effort to diversify the menu at the dining hall, students will now be able to submit their favorite family recipes through a new feature on the university's Web site. Each month the dining hall staff will then select a few of the recipes to prepare and serve.A recent survey indicated that many students wish a wider variety of food options were offered on campus, so the dining hall staff hopes that serving students some of their favorite foods from home will also add variety to the food choices. Additionally, an archive of the selected recipes will be maintained on the Web site so that all students can access and prepare the recipes they enjoyed eating.

If the dining hall does this, students would be able to taste different food from different countries since most students are from different countries. Secondly, she thinks that students would be able to cook in their dorm kitchen since they tasted different food.

  1. Delivery The speaker's delivery is mostly clear and fluid, with a consistent pace and only occasional pauses. However, there are some minor punctuation issues that can be improved. To enhance the delivery, the speaker should practice proper pausing and intonation to make the speech sound more natural and engaging.

  2. Topic Development The response is coherent and well-organized, with clear connections between ideas and sufficient support or examples. However, there is room for improvement in providing more specific details from the listening passage to strengthen the response. For instance, mentioning the woman's hesitance to cook new recipes from a cookbook could be included to further support her opinion on the plan. Practicing summarizing key points from both the reading and listening passages will help improve topic development in future responses.

Original: The school is planning to hold a semester beginning of semester snack break next week in the student center. This is because, first, the school wants the students to get familiar with the food of area restaurants. Secondly, the school wants the students to meet and socialize with each other. Both the men and the women (change "the" to "women" for consistency) like this idea. Firstly, they think the students do not have much money to spend on the food they don't like, so it's a good idea to know what they really like through eating the food from different restaurants, and they can choose where to go later. Secondly, the men said if they only do their daily routine, they will only know their friends from their classes.

Revised Answer (140 words):

The university plans to hold a beginning of semester snack break at the student center next week. The primary objectives are to help students become acquainted with local restaurants' cuisine and encourage socialization among them. Both the man and woman in the conversation appreciate this initiative. They believe that since students often have limited budgets, this event allows them to sample various dishes without spending money on meals they may not enjoy. Consequently, they can make informed decisions about off-campus dining options in the future. Additionally, both speakers emphasize that participating in such university-wide events helps break away from their daily routines and fosters connections with peers outside their classes or clubs, thus promoting a more diverse social circle.

Revised Answer (140 words):

The reading passage states that the university plans to discontinue the jazz choir next semester due to low student participation. However, the woman disagrees with this decision. She believes that the main issue is the intense rehearsal schedule, which requires students to meet three times a week. She suggests that if the rehearsals were reduced to once a week, more students would be able to participate. Another concern she raises is that the alternative choir focuses on classical music, which most students do not enjoy as much as jazz. In her opinion, discontinuing the jazz choir would deprive students of an opportunity to engage in a musical activity they truly enjoy and could potentially lead to increased participation if the rehearsal schedule were adjusted.
