There exists a firece debate on whether parents should put a limitation on the time which their children spend on watching TV. Some asserts that since children has little self-control ability,, they will spend too much time spending watching TV rather than studying hard without any time restriction. However, I hold the view that it is not necessary for parents to limit their children’s time spending on watching TV. Watching TV can not only help children to relax after school, but also improve their performance in school. For contemporary students, they have burden a lot of study tasks to tackle every day in school, and they get so tired and exhausted when they come back home. Watching TV is a sutiable way for them to relax and refresh themselves after a long day’s brain’s work. This is a slow recovering process that parents should not interrput or disturb. Imagine that you were a student feeling exhausted after studying all day and wanted to watch your favorite TV program for a while, but after 20 mintues your mom came and told you to turn off the TV right now, you would definitely feel unsatisfied or dpressed ,and how could you get a good performance in school tomorrow? On the contrary, if children can get enough time to watch TV every day, then they can be refreshed and beome full of energy, hence they will perform well in school. When children watch TV, they also study different kinds of knowledge. We now live in an information-booming society, numerous new data and knowledge emerge every second. Chidren need to learn new methods, new ideas, new knowledge, not only just the old textbook knowledge taught in school. There many diffenrent types of TV programs on TV, such as news programs, history programs, sports programs and so on, which are benificial for children to broaden sights and acquire new information. Furthermore, parents should spend some time on TV together with their children. In this process they can watch the same TV program, share sheir opnions or have some discussions on what they see. When I was in primary school my mother usually watch TV news with me, and we would hold opposite view and debate from different aspects, which helped me a lot in ciritical thinking and communicating with ohters. Hence wathcing TV is a good way for children to improve themselves after school without consuming too much energy. In conlusion, wathcing TV can help chilren to be refreshed after school , and improve their knowledge level, which will promote their performance in school. The ongoing debate regarding whether parents should limit the time their children spend watching TV is fueled by concerns over children's self-control and academic performance. Some argue that without restrictions, children may devote excessive time to television at the expense of their studies. However, I believe that it is unnecessary for parents to impose strict limitations on their children's TV consumption.
Television can serve as a valuable tool for relaxation and stress relief, potentially enhancing children's academic performance. Contemporary students face numerous academic challenges daily, often leaving them exhausted after school. Watching TV provides a suitable means for them to unwind and rejuvenate after a long day of mental exertion. Parents should avoid interrupting this recovery process. Consider a student who wishes to enjoy their favorite TV program after an arduous day of studying; if their parent were to abruptly demand they stop watching after just 20 minutes, the child would likely feel frustrated or disheartened. This emotional state could negatively impact their performance in school the following day. Conversely, allowing children sufficient time to watch TV each day enables them to recharge and approach their studies with renewed vigor.
In addition to its recreational benefits, television exposes children to diverse knowledge beyond what they learn in school. As we inhabit an era characterized by rapid information growth, it is crucial for children to acquire new methods, ideas, and knowledge beyond traditional textbook content. Television offers a wide array of informative programs spanning news, history, sports, and more; these shows can broaden children's horizons and provide valuable insights into various subjects. Moreover, parents should consider watching TV alongside their offspring as this shared experience can foster meaningful discussions and exchanges of opinions on the content being viewed.
During my primary school years, my mother frequently watched news programs with me; our differing perspectives led to lively debates that significantly improved my critical thinking skills and ability to communicate effectively with others. Consequently, watching TV can serve as an effective means for children to enhance their abilities after school without expending excessive energy.
In light of these considerations, it is evident that watching TV can help children recharge after a demanding day at school and expand their knowledge base, ultimately contributing to improved academic performance. Therefore, parents should refrain from imposing strict limitations on the time their children spend watching television. (393 words)
