Professor
Professor: Mental health has been a major focus in the field of well-being. Understandably, people who live in competitive situations, like college students, are particularly more prone to stress, so today let’s talk about stress management. Staying alone or spending time with others, which do you think is better to relax?
Student A
Maria: I would say that staying alone is more helpful in terms of reducing stress. I believe many people would agree that social activities are actually an important source of stress. Imagine you have to hang out with your friends. You’ll have to take into account your friends’ preferences and make compromises every now and then. If you relax just by yourself, you can decide what you do and what snack you eat, which to me is truly relaxing.
Student B
Carl: It is true that social activities can sometimes seem stressful, but I think that kind of stress is far less serious than the “real stress”, say when you are facing a major test or you don’t have enough money to pay rent. In such cases, people might not be able to relax if they stay alone because they cannot help thinking about the stress. That’s when friends are needed to distract a little bit.

In my perspective, engaging in social interactions is a more effective stress-relief strategy than remaining in solitude. I fully concur with Carl's assertion that under certain circumstances, individuals require the support of friends to alleviate their burdens. Engaging in conversations and leisure activities like playing games or watching movies with friends offers a temporary respite from the demands of work and academics, providing the much-needed break. In addition, being in the company of others can mitigate negative emotions, fostering an improved mental state and heightened productivity for future tasks. In my experience, spending leisure time with companions enables me to connect with a diverse range of individuals, subsequently expanding my social network. Establishing new connections can elicit positive emotions, resulting in an optimistic outlook in life and increased motivation to tackle present challenges, as this approach also bolsters overall mental well-being.

Personally, I find spending time with others to be a great way to relax. While I understand Maria's point that hanging out with friends can sometimes be stressful, I also see it as a meaningful opportunity to exchange thoughts and get inspired. If someone in your social circle makes you feel stressed, it may be a sign that you're not close enough. I suggest exploring common interests or hanging out with more familiar friends. Ultimately, what matters is that you feel relaxed. Research shows that people secrete more dopamine when discussing topics they're interested in with their friends, which can lead to increased happiness. This has certainly been true for me and my friend Alex. Initially, we didn't know each other well, but as we chatted, we discovered more shared interests, and now I feel relaxed when I'm with her. It's important to take a positive approach to friendships, as they can really help improve our psychological state.

In my opinion, spending time with others serves as an effective method for relaxation. Although Maria's argument about the potential stress from social activities holds some merit, I believe that engaging with friends provides a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and gain inspiration. If certain individuals within your social circle cause stress, it might indicate a lack of closeness or shared interests. To alleviate this, consider seeking out common ground or spending time with more familiar friends. Ultimately, the key is to feel at ease in these interactions.
Research has demonstrated that engaging in conversations about topics of interest with friends can stimulate the release of dopamine, leading to increased happiness. This has certainly been my experience with my friend Alex. Initially, our relationship was somewhat superficial; however, as we conversed more frequently and discovered shared passions, I began to feel increasingly relaxed in her presence. Adopting a positive attitude towards friendships can significantly enhance our mental well-being. (161 words)

Just as what Maria mentioned, social activities can be troublesome for some people. When a person is alone, he or she can do nothing and juest take a good sleep. Secondly, being alone means that you could have full freedom. You can do whatever you want to. Taking myself as an example, when I am staying at home with nobody else there, I will read some books or sing songs, which really makes me feel refreshed. If I cannot be left alone, I may not have the opportunity to do what I really want to. Thus, I think staying alone is a better choice for people who would like to reduce their stress.

The concept of health has evolved over time, and it is generally believed that maintaining a healthy state is easier with modern technology and medical treatment than with living standards in the past. However, I argue that despite advancements in medicine, achieving well-being today is more challenging than maintaining fitness in ancient times.
Jonah posits that people in the past led healthier, more physically active lives due to their work assignments, which diminished the need for engaging in exercise during their leisure time. Furthermore, considering dietary habits, there were far fewer additives and processed foods available. Consequently, individuals faced fewer challenges related to their eating habits, work situations, and overall lifestyles.
Amber raises a valid point that access to healthcare was limited in the past and medical knowledge was not as advanced as it is today. People lacked awareness of proper diet and exercise routines. However, advanced electronic devices unavailable previously now consume much of modern individuals' time, leading to increased sedentary behavior. In other words, well-developed technology such as electronic devices unique to contemporary society makes it harder for people to maintain good health.
In light of these arguments, although it is true that our understanding of health and medical therapy has significantly improved compared to the past, it remains more difficult to maintain fitness in modern times than in ancient eras due to contrasting lifestyles and technological advancements. Maria presents a compelling argument in favor of the notion that spending time with others may also create unexpected stress. Admittedly, considering others' feelings can induce anxiety when people lack the time and energy to attend to friends or family. However, I am inclined to believe that hanging out with friends is more beneficial when feeling exhausted or stressed.
To begin with, friends play a significant role in our lives. Whether we are seeking advice or simply wanting someone to talk to, they are always there to provide encouragement and companionship. Oftentimes, people cannot relieve themselves of stress due to their limited perspective on a situation. By spending time with friends, individuals may gain alternative viewpoints, which can lead to increased happiness.
Furthermore, socializing with friends allows for opportunities to interact and reflect on our mistakes in order to make progress in areas that cause anxiety. Engaging in activities such as watching movies together, attending parties, or participating in outdoor sports can create memorable experiences that alleviate stress.
Therefore, taking into account these reasons and the potential benefits of social interaction, spending time with others appears to be a wiser option for managing stress effectively. (196 words)

While Maria's argument for staying alone can help people reduce their stress may seem persuasive at first glance, as it is true that you should consider your friends' preferences or some other things which can make you feel uncomfortable. However, I am inclined to believe that spend time with your frriends can help you release your pressure. This is because when you feel you are under the stress, then you can talk with them, and during this process, you can exchange ideas with your friends, which may broaden your eyesight and then help you relax. Furthermore, spending time with others can also help you enchance your personal skills, which can help you build a stronger mental health in return. For instance, when you play with others, you can gain a feeling of unity, which can help build your confidence, this can help you do not afraid of any problems which would cause stress. Given these factors, I think it is better to relax when you spend time with other peoples.

While Maria's argument for solitude as a means of stress reduction may initially appear persuasive, considering the potential discomfort of accommodating friends' preferences, I believe that spending time with friends can be more effective in alleviating stress. Engaging in conversation with friends allows for the exchange of ideas and perspectives, broadening one's horizons and promoting relaxation. Moreover, socializing can enhance personal skills, contributing to improved mental health in the long run. For example, participating in group activities fosters a sense of unity and camaraderie, bolstering confidence and reducing the fear of facing stress-inducing challenges. Therefore, I contend that spending time with others is a superior method for relaxation and stress management. (114 words)
