نص القراءة

A recent study reveals that people especially young people are reading far less literature—novels, plays, and poems—than they used to. This is troubling because the trend has unfortunate effects for the reading public, for culture in general, and for the future of literature itself. While there has been a decline in book reading generally, the decline has been especially sharp for literature. This is unfortunate because nothing else provides the intellectual stimulation that literature does. Literature encourages us to exercise our imaginations, empathize with others, and expand our understanding of language. So by reading less literature, the reading public is missing out on important benefits.Unfortunately, missing out on the benefits of literature is not the only problem. What are people reading instead? Consider the prevalence of self-help books on lists of best sellers. These are usually superficial poorly written, and intellectually undemanding. Additionally, instead of sitting down with a challenging novel, many persons are now more likely to turn on the television, watch a music video, or read a Web page. Clearly, diverting time previously spent in reading literature to trivial forms of entertainment has lowered the level of culture in general. The trend of reading less literature is all the more regrettable because it is taking place during a period when good literature is being written. There are many talented writers today, but they lack an audience. This fact is bound to lead publishers to invest less in literature and so support fewer serious writers. Thus, the writing as well as the reading of literature is likely to decline because of the poor standards of today's readers.

Section Title: 6.文章修订

The reading passage asserts that young people are reading far less literature, resulting in negative consequences for the reading public, culture, and the future of literature. Conversely, the lecture challenges these points by offering counterarguments.

Firstly, the reading passage contends that there has been a particularly sharp decline in book reading for literature, which is unfortunate since nothing else provides the intellectual stimulation that literature does. However, the professor disputes this notion. Books other than literature can also be intellectually stimulating, such as those on science writing, political analysis, and so forth. These books are often well-written and as creative as novels and plays. In this regard, the professor argues that it is unjust to claim that people who are not reading literature are not engaging in intellectually stimulating activities.

Secondly, the author also states that people are partaking in lower-quality entertainment instead of reading, which has diminished the overall cultural level. However, the professor points out that people are not only spending less time with literature but also with books in general. There is a significant amount of culturally valuable material that isn't written, including music and films. The professor explains that as culture evolves, there are now more diverse and creative ways to express feelings and ideas beyond traditional literature. These forms of art would not be a waste of time and would not lower cultural standards.

Lastly, the author claims that due to poor reader standards, literature will decline. The professor counters this argument by stating it is not solely the fault of readers; contemporary literary works can be challenging to understand. In conclusion, while novels were popular in previous generations, it remains uncertain whether readers from those times would have been interested in today's literary works due to their complexity and difficulty. The reading passage and listening passage both address the decline in reading literature, presenting contrasting viewpoints. The author views this decline as problematic, while the lecturer disagrees.

Firstly, the author highlights the issue of a decrease in book reading and asserts that nothing else offers the potent stimulation that literature does. Thus, by reading less literature, people would miss out on numerous benefits. However, the lecturer contends that various other sources can stimulate our creativity and imagination.

Moreover, the author argues that shifting focus from literature to entertainment forms such as television, music, or videos will result in a lower cultural level. Contrarily, the professor refutes this argument by emphasizing cultural changes and asserting that even without literature, we still have an abundance of cultural forms like music or movies which do not negatively impact cultural standards.

Lastly, the reading passage claims that declining reader standards will lead to a decline in writer standards and result in many talented writers lacking an audience. The professor disputes this point by attributing it to authors' faults since many readers struggle to understand their books. This difficulty contributes to a decrease in both readership and literary creation. (197 words)

According to the passage, the author claims that the decline in literature reading is troubling, which would have bad effects. However, the lecturer casts her doubt with a counterpoint, emphasizing that such a relationship is not reliable. Firstly, the author states that the decline in book reading, which is most significantly for literature, would do harm to intellectual stimulation, imagination exercise, and comprehension of language. Nevertheless, the lecturer argues that such an association is not conceivable. While decline in literature reading, there are still many people interested in books illustrating science, history, and politics, all of which could play an important role in mental development. Secondly, the author insists that with the development of technology, more and more people choose to spend time enjoying entertainment medias such as music videos, television, and so on, all of which would lower the level of culture. On the other hand, the lecturer confronts such an opinion indicating that the culture, developed all times, is in its way of keeping pace with technological development. Such innovation in video, film, and website is also a platform for performing culture. There is no doubt that such a development in multi-media would contribute a lot to cultural advancement. Finally, as the author thinks that fewer audiences caused less investment to writers, which unavoidably leads to the decline of literature, the lecturer claims that such a dilemma could not be wholly attributed to the audience, which is unfair. As audiences would always enjoy classical novels, the declined interest in modern literature was a reflection of the poor level of nowadays writers, who have no choice but to improve their ability to retain their reputation.

According to the passage, the author claims that the decline in literature reading is troubling, which would have bad effects. However, the lecturer casts her doubt with a counterpoint, emphasizing that such a relationship is not reliable.

While declinea decline(This rule identifies whether the article 'a' is missing in a sentence.) in literature reading, there are still many people interested in books illustrating science, history, and politics, all of which could play an important role in mental development.

As audiences would always enjoy classical novels, the declined interest in modern literature was a reflection of the poor level of nowadays writers, who have no choice but to improve their ability to retain their reputation.

Section Title: 6.文章修订

The passage asserts that the decline in literature reading is troubling and has negative consequences. However, the lecturer challenges this notion by providing counterarguments that demonstrate the unreliability of such a relationship.

Firstly, the author contends that the significant decline in literature reading negatively impacts intellectual stimulation, imagination exercise, and language comprehension. In contrast, the lecturer posits that this correlation is not necessarily accurate. Despite the decline in literature reading, many people remain interested in books covering science, history, and politics, all of which contribute to mental development.

Secondly, the author maintains that as technology advances, more people choose to spend time on entertainment media such as music videos and television, leading to a lowered cultural level. Conversely, the lecturer disputes this viewpoint by highlighting that culture continually evolves alongside technological advancements. Innovations in video, film, and websites also serve as platforms for cultural expression. Undoubtedly, these developments in multimedia contribute significantly to cultural progress.

Lastly, while the author believes that a smaller audience results in less investment for writers and an inevitable decline in literature quality, the lecturer argues that it is unjust to place sole blame on readers. Although audiences continue to appreciate classic novels, their diminished interest in modern literature reflects the subpar quality of contemporary writers who must enhance their skills to maintain their reputation.

The reading passage highlights a study that indicates a decline in literature reading among the public, particularly the younger generation, and its negative consequences on culture and the future of literature. However, the lecture offers several counterarguments to these claims.

Firstly, the lecture challenges the reading's assertion that only literature can provide intellectual stimulation. It suggests that other forms of creative expression, such as music, movies, and songs, can also offer significant benefits to the public by fostering imagination and language understanding. Moreover, the reading argues that alternative forms of entertainment like television or self-help books contribute to a lower cultural level in society. In contrast, the lecture posits that culture evolves over time and cannot be judged solely by one standard. It emphasizes that new forms of expression like television also hold cultural value.

Lastly, while the reading blames readers for their declining interest in literature, the lecture contends that authors may be at fault as well. It points out that some writers intentionally make their works difficult to understand in order to showcase their writing skills. This could be a primary reason why readers are losing interest in literary works. (209 words)

The reading passage highlights the concern that young people are reading far less literature than before. However, the lecture challenges this viewpoint by presenting three counterarguments.

Firstly, the reading passage suggests that by reading less literature, people miss out on important benefits. In contrast, the lecturer argues that not all books need to be classified as literature to provide intellectual stimulation. Books on science, history, and art can also expand readers' knowledge and thoughts, making them valuable literary works. Therefore, reading literature is not synonymous with reading a good book.

Secondly, the reading passage claims that people are now more likely to watch television or engage with other forms of media instead of reading literature. The lecturer counters this by stating that culture has evolved to include various forms of expression beyond literature. People can learn about culture through listening to songs or watching films which have become more popular and accessible than traditional literary works. Consequently, the way culture is recorded and shared has changed.

Lastly, the reading passage attributes the decline in authors to a decrease in readership. However, the lecturer points out that it is not solely the readers' fault but also due to authors writing literature that is difficult to comprehend. As a result, fewer people are interested in engaging with such complex works.

In light of these arguments presented in the lecture, it becomes evident that people reading less literature may not necessarily be a negative development. A more objective and comprehensive approach should be taken when evaluating this issue. (258 words)

The article and the lecture both discuss the decline in literature reading. While the author of the article argues that there has been a general decline in book reading, the lecturer disputes these claims, asserting that literature still exists but in different forms.

According to the reading, literature allows us to exercise our imagination. The article contends that with less literature available, an important aspect of reading is lost. However, the lecturer challenges this argument by stating that high-quality literature still exists today. Furthermore, she highlights that other forms of international communication such as science and music can also stimulate public imagination.

Secondly, the author suggests that people are increasingly reading self-help books or watching music videos and television instead of engaging with literature. The article posits that these activities represent a lower level of culture. In contrast, the lecturer asserts that there are many good videos and music pieces available which do not necessarily equate to wasted time. She goes on to argue that this shift represents a cultural change rather than a decline.

Lastly, the author puts forth the idea that talented writers today lack an audience due to readers' poor standards causing a decline in literature. The lecturer counters this claim by attributing fault to authors rather than readers. She notes that it is often due to low-quality books being produced which results in less engagement from readers. The reading passage claims that young people are reading far less literature, leading to unfortunate effects on the reading public, culture, and the future of literature itself. However, the professor in the lecture disputes this statement, arguing that the reading passage presents a one-sided view.

Firstly, the reading passage contends that there has been a particularly sharp decline in book reading for literature, which is unfortunate since nothing else provides intellectual stimulation like literature does. However, the professor disagrees with this idea. Books outside of literature can also be intellectually stimulating, such as those on science writing, political analysis, and so on. These books are often well-written and as creative as novels and plays. In this case, the professor argues that it is unfair to claim that people who are not reading literature are not reading good books.

Secondly, the writer asserts that people are engaging in lower-quality entertainment instead of reading, which has lowered the level of culture in general. However, the professor points out that people are not only spending less time with literature but also spending less time with books overall. Nevertheless, there is a significant amount of culturally valuable material that isn't written down, including music and films. As culture changes over time, there are more ways to express feelings directly and creatively other than through literature. These forms of art should not be considered a waste of time and do not lower cultural standards.

Finally, the writer states that due to poor standards among readers today, literature will decline. The professor counters this argument by saying it is not solely the fault of readers; rather contemporary literary works have become increasingly difficult to understand. Although novels were popular in previous generations, it is uncertain whether readers from earlier times would have read many of today's literary works either. (306 words)

6.文章修订

Both the passage and the lecture discuss the declining trend of reading literature among people, particularly the younger generation. The passage expresses concern that this trend will lead to numerous problems, while the lecturer refutes these concerns by presenting counterarguments.

The first point raised by the passage is that by reading less literature, people miss out on intellectual stimulation, as well as benefits such as improved imagination and language understanding. However, the lecturer counters this argument by stating that other reading materials, such as science and history books, can also be of high quality and provide intellectual stimulation and imagination to readers. Thus, literature is not the sole means for individuals to develop these skills.

Furthermore, the passage contends that popular books nowadays and other forms of amusement such as television and music videos are superficial and do not require much intellectual effort to comprehend. In contrast, the lecturer points out that other forms of entertainment are also brilliantly created and do not necessarily lower cultural standards. In fact, these alternative forms of entertainment can convey their messages more directly than literature, which often requires more time and effort to read and comprehend.

Lastly, the passage argues that due to a diminishing readership for literature, writers lack sufficient support and audience engagement, leading to a decline in investment in literary works. The lecturer challenges this point by suggesting that authors should also bear some responsibility for this phenomenon. Some modern literary works are intentionally difficult to understand, which may deter readers from engaging with newly-created literature.

In summary, while the author of the passage believes that a decrease in reading literature will have detrimental effects on society in various ways, the lecturer presents counterarguments suggesting that literature is not as vital as it is portrayed in the passage. Moreover, it is not solely due to readers abandoning literary works but also because of factors related to authors' choices in creating complex literary pieces. (324 words)

both the reading and the lecturer discuss the phenomenon that fewer and fewer people today read literature. The lecturer challenges several points made in the reading, providing counterarguments while asserting that this phenomenon doesn't necessarily mean the negative influence to the culture. Firstly, the reading claims that while nothing else than literature can provide the intellectual stimulation, the reading public is missing out on crucial benefits. In the country, the professor argues that the literature could not assumed to be the single way to provide intellecture stimulation. In his opinion, for instance, some of the science books or history books are also in high quality and could samely benefit the reading public. Furthermore, as the reading suggests that because the books now in prevalence are poorly writtened, so people are more inclined choose other more trival forms of entertainment. The lecturer challenges three drawbacks of reading less literature mentioned in the reading passage by offering more nuanced perspectives. Firstly, the lecturer believes that the reading overstates the unique benefits that literature can bring to its audience. The lecturer emphasizes that numerous genres can evoke readers' imagination and creativity, such as scientific novels and fiction. Thus, the intellectual stimulation offered by literature can be replaced. Secondly, the lecturer disputes the assumption that watching movies or listening to music are superficial ways to connect with culture, as suggested in the reading passage. The lecturer argues that culture has various forms of expression, and sometimes, music and movies can address cultural concerns more directly than literature. Therefore, it is not appropriate to consider literature as superior. Lastly, the reading passage claims that modern literature's quantity declines rapidly due to a lack of audience and investment. However, the lecturer disagrees with this notion by revealing that it is the authors themselves who are prone to create works difficult to understand regardless of their time period. Even people from earlier generations would have been less likely to appreciate such challenging works. In summary, the lecturer casts doubt on three disadvantages of reading less literature by expressing that its intellectual stimulation function can be replaced and there are various ways to learn about culture. Additionally, writers today should not focus on producing excessively difficult literary works.

The reading passage contends that the decline in literature reading has negative consequences for individuals, culture, and the future of literature itself. However, the lecture challenges these points by offering alternative perspectives.

Firstly, the reading passage asserts that literature uniquely stimulates imagination and language skills. In contrast, the lecturer argues that other genres, such as science writing and history novels, can also foster imagination and enhance language abilities.

Secondly, the author of the reading passage claims that popular books nowadays are poorly written and that new interests in people's lives jeopardize cultural standards. On the other hand, the lecturer posits that music, movies, and non-literary activities do not harm cultural levels because culture is constantly evolving.

Lastly, the reading passage suggests that reading less literature may hinder opportunities for talented writers to thrive. However, the lecturer counters this argument by stating that sometimes it is not readers' fault but rather authors who create works difficult to comprehend.

While the reading contends that reading less literature harms the reading public, the culture in general and the future of literature itself, the lecture casts doubt on these arguments. Firstly, the writer claims that reading less literature brings lots of disadvantages to the reading public because literature equips us with intellectual stimulation, imagination and empathy, and aids us in understanding language. However, the professor refutes this view, arguing that there are many other types of books, such as science and philosophy, are well written and of high quality. According to her, these types of books are just as creative as novels and plays. They also stimulate our intelligence and inspire our imagination and empathy. Therefore, not reading literature does not mean not reading books. Secondly, the writer asserts that switching the time spent on reading literature to trivial forms of entertainment harms the culture in general. In contrast, the professor holds an opposite view, stating that culture in general is not in decline. She further explains that there are many different forms of culture, such as news, movies and so on. It is not a waste of time if you listen to a piece of music. Consequently, people spending less time on reading literature is not an indicator of deteriorating the culture in general. Finally, the writer states that because of the preferences of today’s readers, less and less people read and write literature. Contrary to the reading’s view, the professor believes that the author’s fault leads to less support for the literature. In other words, modern literature is so difficult to understand that fewer people would prefer to read it. In the past, literature was easy and enjoyable to read.
