As far as I am concerned, I tend to be in favor of the argument that students should select what to read actively, as Jack mentioned, due to its contribution to stimulating students to learn better. To begin with, since every student has his own interest in certain subject, rather the same descipline, they may feel boring in some fields. If they are required to accomplish a specific aspect of subjects, they will have difficulty in completing it efficiently and distribute a large amount of spare time, achieving an unsatisfying academic learning effect. However, never should we overlook the significance in students' learning enthusiasm. If the student have the opportunity to choose what to read, with no doubt, the learning efficiency will be promoted. For example, in China, students before senior high school have to learn all the subjects including geography, chemistry as well as history. Most of them are inclined to learn several of them achieving a supreme grade, instead of all of them. In this case, every student should choose his learning interest, which inspire them learn better.

示例1(改进前):If they are required to accomplish a specific aspect of subjects, they will have difficulty in completing it efficiently and distribute a large amount of spare time, achieving an unsatisfying academic learning effect. 示例1(改进后):If students are required to study specific subjects, they may struggle to complete them efficiently, leading to a less satisfying academic experience.

In response to the professor's question, I firmly believe that allowing students to choose their own reading materials, as Jack suggested, fosters greater engagement and more effective learning. Individual interests vary greatly among students, and being forced to focus on a specific subject may lead to boredom and decreased motivation. Consequently, students may struggle to complete assigned tasks efficiently and may waste valuable time, resulting in suboptimal academic outcomes.
On the other hand, nurturing students' enthusiasm for learning is of paramount importance. When given the freedom to select their own reading materials, students are more likely to be invested in their studies and experience enhanced learning efficiency. For instance, in China, students are required to study a wide range of subjects before entering senior high school, including geography, chemistry, and history. However, most students naturally excel in only a few areas rather than all subjects. In such cases, empowering students to pursue their interests can inspire them to achieve greater success in their chosen fields. (169 words)
