We've been discussing ways that parents can help prepare their teenage children for adulthood. One line of thinking is that parents should encourage their teenagers to take part-time jobs to help them learn to be responsible, even if it is not an economic necessity for the teenagers to work. What are your thoughts on the issue? Should parents urge teenage children to get a job? Why or why not?

Student A

Teenagers should work part-time. When I was 16, I washed dishes at a restaurant, and I'm glad I did. I learned a lot about time management. I had to use my free time wisely to make sure I could complete homework despite spending time working at a job. This is a valuable life skill.

Student B

I would have to disagree. A teenager is still just a kid, and in my opinion, a kid needs to focus on going to school and learning. A job would be an unnecessary distraction. If it's all about learning responsibility, I think there are a lot of other ways to do that without the commitment required by a job.

Admittedly, Andrew is right when teenagers should focus on their study rather than getting a job. After all, most teenagers are not ready to face the challenges on the society. Nevertheless, I think it is necessary for parents to urge teenage children to get a job. Work experience can let teenagers learn something that they will never get from textbooks, which is beneficial to their self development. For example, if a teenager get a job in a coffee bar like Starbucks, he/she will not only learn the ability to make coffee, but also the ability to establish communications with strangers and deal with emergency. In addition, the improved communication skill and stable attitude towards emergency will do great help in their school life. Therefore, I argue that parents should let teenage students to get a job.

Section Title: 6 文章修订

While it is true that teenagers should prioritize their studies, as Andrew suggests, I believe that parents should still encourage their teenage children to obtain part-time jobs. Gaining work experience allows teenagers to acquire skills and knowledge beyond what they can learn from textbooks, ultimately contributing to their personal growth. For instance, if a teenager were to work at a coffee shop like Starbucks, they would not only develop the skill of making coffee but also enhance their communication abilities with strangers and learn how to handle emergencies. These improved communication skills and composed attitudes towards unexpected situations can significantly benefit their academic and social lives. Consequently, I maintain that parents should support their teenage children in seeking employment opportunities. (124 words)

In light of environment getting worse at an alarming rate, my opinion is more closely aligned with Kelly's point that economic success should never come at the cost of damage to the environment as the harming environment will cause negative effect on our own health. To be specific, if companies neglect their responsibilities of handling the waste they produce during the production process, our environment will become chaotic and full of wasted gases. By taking in such toxic untreated gas day by day, citizens are likely to suffer respiratory diseases such as lung cancer and asthma. As a consequence, people will spend much money on taking therapy in hospital resulting in tight budget for their life. Therefore, all companies and businesses should prioritize environmental sustainability.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision

The alarming rate of environmental degradation leads me to concur with Kelly's perspective that economic success should never be achieved at the expense of environmental damage, as such harm ultimately impacts our own well-being. Specifically, when companies disregard their responsibility to manage waste generated during production processes, our surroundings become inundated with harmful gases. Prolonged exposure to these toxic emissions can result in citizens developing respiratory illnesses such as lung cancer and asthma. Consequently, individuals may incur significant medical expenses for treatment, straining their financial resources. Thus, it is imperative for all companies and businesses to prioritize environmental sustainability in their operations. (107 words)

To be more specific, taking a part-time job could help children to encounter society early, which could cultivate their ability to adapt themselves to changing and accidential circumstances. Take my friend for an example, she is working in the supermarket as a cashier, and she often meets unexpected conditions, a consumer jumps a quene and fights with others. In this case, she needs to come up with a measure that can temporarily deal with and control the situation until the manager appears.

Section Title: 6 文章修订

Revised Essay: In my perspective, acquiring social experience is crucial when parents prepare their children for adulthood. Specifically, engaging in part-time employment can enable adolescents to gain early exposure to societal dynamics, thereby fostering their adaptability to ever-changing and unforeseen situations. For instance, a friend of mine works as a cashier at a supermarket and frequently encounters unexpected scenarios, such as customers arguing over queue-jumping. In such cases, she must devise an interim solution to manage and control the situation until her supervisor intervenes. Conversely, without these experiences, as Andrew suggests, young individuals may develop apprehension towards real-world challenges and lack a transitional period that facilitates rapid adaptation. I concur with Andrew's perspective that raising pets can be advantageous for children. He emphasizes that caring for animals can foster a sense of responsibility and empathy in children. Furthermore, I believe that engaging with pets can also alleviate stress in young minds. As the pressures of modern life intensify, finding ways to relax becomes increasingly important. Interacting with pets after school can provide a much-needed respite for students. For instance, my friend's demeanor improved significantly after adopting a cat, as evidenced by his frequent smiles. While Claire argues that parents often assume the primary caregiving role for pets, she overlooks the profound impact this experience can have on children's development and well-being. Thus, I maintain that the benefits of raising pets extend far beyond childhood and contribute positively to an individual's overall growth. (139 words)
