Task Overview
Reading Passage
Tolerant Ecotypes Animal and plant species may sometimes find that their living conditions become altered in ways that threaten their survival in response to these new threats to their environment, certain members of the species may evolve or adapt to tolerate the harsh conditions. These unique members of the species are known as tolerant ecotypes. Once a member of a species develops this tolerance, it will pass the trait on to its offspring, eventually creating a distinct group of tolerant ecotypes within the species that are able to survive in an otherwise harmful environment.
Question

修正后的回答(满分版本):
A tolerant ecotype is a unique member of a species that has evolved or adapted to tolerate harsh conditions. In the case of the campion plant, some individuals were found to grow in soil contaminated with metal, specifically copper, which is usually toxic to this type of plant. Scientists discovered that seeds from these tolerant campion plants could germinate and grow in the contaminated soil, while seeds from regular campion plants could not survive in the same environment. This demonstrates that the tolerant ecotypes within the campion species have developed an ability to withstand metal contamination, allowing them to survive and reproduce in otherwise harmful environments.
