Aperçu de la Tâche

Doctor Diaz

This week, we’ll look at practices and activities used by primary and secondary school teachers. Let’s begin by discussing journal writing activities. Some teachers ask students to keep a journal and to regularly write down their thoughts about a recent lesson or respond to a question presented by the teacher. There are also many teachers who never assign journal writing. Now, I’d like your opinion: Is journal writing a worthwhile activity to support learning? Why or why not?

Claire

I think getting students into the habit of writing reflectively can be very beneficial. Journal writing gives students an opportunity to develop their own ideas about what they’re learning whether it’s for a math class or a literature class. It could also give the teacher an informal way to gauge how well students are comprehending the lessons.

Paul

I’m not convinced journal writing is worthwhile in classes. Teachers have a lot of material to cover, and students have much to learn. Unless a student is particularly interested in journal keeping, the student might view journaling as just more busy work. For there to be a benefit, students would need to take it seriously. I don’t think all would.

Paul presents a convincing argument that journal writing is not worthwhile in classses. Admittedly, teachers and students have a lot of other things have to do. However, considering teachers' responsibility in improving students' study ability, I am inclined to journal writing is a worthwhile activityto support learning. In my view, journal writing can let teachers know studuents' study condition and make the relationship between teachers and students better. Journal writing, serving as a tool for teaching efficiency and communication, not only provides information about students learing condition to teachers, but also offers efficient teaching mode for teachers. For example, as teachers' work and students' learning content have been increasing, teachers require journal writing that saves time to understand students' learing situation, which will significantly improve teaching quality and know students' emotion. Therefore, I firmly believe that writting journal, through understanding students' learing situation, will substantially increase efficiency and strengthen improve the relationship between teachers and students.

I stand with Claire on this one. I think journal writing can benefit students in more ways than one as long as it is not mandatory. Requesting students to keep a daily journal will diminish the outcome of journal keeping, as this will easily decrease their attitude towards jounal writing. Furthermore, mandatory journal writing can even increase the burden on students. For instance, at the end of the semester when everyone is busy reviewing for final exams, keeping a journal will definately have a bad effect on their grades. On the other hand, journal writing should be encouraged by teachers and scholars as it severs a way to document great thoughts come that come from daily life. Since the society needs students not only good in grades, it also requires those with creativites. Those who keep journals remember more of their genious thoughts thus promote their ability to imaginations.

Title: 6 文章修订

I concur with Claire's perspective on the value of journal writing for students, provided it is not made compulsory. Encouraging students to maintain a daily journal may lead to diminishing returns, as it could negatively impact their enthusiasm for the activity. Moreover, making journal writing mandatory may inadvertently increase the workload on students. For example, during the end of the semester when everyone is preoccupied with preparing for final exams, maintaining a journal could potentially have adverse effects on their academic performance.

Conversely, teachers and scholars should promote journal writing as a means of documenting insightful thoughts and ideas derived from everyday experiences. Society needs well-rounded individuals who excel not only in academics but also in creativity. By keeping journals, students can better retain their innovative ideas and enhance their imaginative capabilities.

In conclusion, while journal writing can be beneficial for students' overall development, it should be approached as an optional activity rather than an obligatory task. This way, its potential advantages can be maximized without causing undue stress or burden on students' academic lives. (178 words)
