In the coming weeks, we will be talking about how governments should enforce public safety. We will start with transportation safety, since it accounts for a large portion of public safety. It has become a common practice for most countries to enact laws requiring drivers and passengers to buckle up, and cyclists to wear helmet. Although such measures have proven to be effective in saving lives, critics say that they erode people's freedom. Please share your opinions with the class on this question before our next class: is it justified for governments to require citizens to wear safety gears like safety belts and helmets?
Claire
I will have to say that governments and the police officers are abusing their power when they require citizens to take certain safety measures. Free will is people's most important right, and people should be entitled to use their own discretion when it comes to risk management, as long as it does not involve others, which is the case for safety belts and helmets. In addition, such measures often incur financial burden on citizens. Yes, buckling up and wearing helmets do save lives, but in very rare cases. After all, how often do people get involved in car accidents? But they are now forced to pay certain money for uncertain accidents.
Paul
I advocate human rights and free will as much as Claire, and I would like to point out a fact: survival is the primal human right. So I think it is totally rightful for governments to enforce safety measures to protect the public. Witnessing the tragic and graphic car accident scenes and imagining the huge grief suffered by the victims' families, it would be senseless, if not cruel, to attack such measures. Also, safety belts and helmets do not only save lives, they also dramatically reduce the damage done to those who do survive car accidents and hence the medical costs incurred. All in all, mandatory safety precautions bring about so many benefits, which dwarf its minimal, while necessary, right intrusion.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision
While I understand the importance of personal freedom, I believe that it is justified for governments to require citizens to wear safety gear such as seat belts and helmets. Although these measures may not address the root cause of traffic accidents, they have been proven to save lives and reduce injuries. Instead of viewing these requirements as an infringement on individual liberties, we should consider them as complementary to stricter traffic laws and increased penalties for those who violate them. By combining mandatory safety gear usage with comprehensive traffic regulations, we can create a safer environment for all road users without significantly compromising personal freedom. (110 words)

Title: 6
I wholeheartedly concur with Andrew's perspective that imposing environmental taxes on air travel passengers is a beneficial approach to effectively reducing air pollution.
Introducing an environmental tax on air travel would heighten passengers' awareness of the need to protect the environment, serving as a wake-up call for them to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. For instance, they might opt for public transportation over driving personal vehicles, which would subsequently decrease exhaust emissions. Moreover, as more individuals recognize the significance of mitigating air pollution and scrutinize airlines' fuel consumption practices, a positive feedback loop will emerge. This increased social pressure on airlines to adopt environmentally responsible measures is likely to be more effective than direct financial penalties.
Additionally, the revenue generated from these taxes could be utilized by governments to advance technologies that reduce the necessity for air travel. For example, investing in remote meeting capabilities could significantly decrease business-related flights. By strategically allocating these funds towards promoting sustainable alternatives, we can collectively work towards a cleaner and greener future. (174 words)

I think both Paul's and Clarie's opinions make sense. Recycling and reusing old products can drastically decrease the pollution to the environment, as well as reduce the production of plastic utensils which may consume more petroleum. Local organic food is also environmentally friendly because the crops and vegetables are planted without harmful toxin such as pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Thus fewer greenhouse gases and harmful ingredients will be emitted into the natural world, posing a negative effect on human's health. Besides, personally speaking, I think we can also take public transportation instead of driving cars by ourselves. Cars emit a large amount of carbon dioxide every year, which can make the greenhouse effect more serious. If we take buses or trains powered by clean power, not only will we save money but also can help ease the greenhouse effect.

I concur with both Claire's and Paul's perspectives. Recycling and reusing materials can significantly mitigate environmental pollution and decrease the production of disposable items, which often require more resources, such as petroleum.
Moreover, supporting local organic food production is another environmentally friendly approach, as it avoids the use of harmful substances like pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Consequently, this reduces greenhouse gas emissions and harmful residues that could negatively impact human health.
Furthermore, I believe that opting for public transportation instead of driving personal vehicles can contribute to environmental protection. Cars are responsible for a substantial amount of carbon dioxide emissions annually, exacerbating the greenhouse effect. By choosing buses or trains powered by clean energy sources, we can not only save money but also help alleviate the greenhouse effect. (132 words)

From my perspective, I think the improvement of public transportation is most likely to solve carbon emissions, which is Claire’s thought. This is because it is more practical to upgrade public transportation. First of all, it is easier for the government to upgrade public transportation than to provide financial support, and both can achieve the same result. Providing financial support is actually a complicated process since the government has to consider many factors. For example, Beijing was the most polluted city in China since it had too much traffic, which caused terrible weather in this city. However, the government was required to improve the weather and reduce pollution suddenly because it was unhealthy for citizens. Therefore, they decided to improve public transportation, such as by increasing the number of buses per station and making the subway more frequent. Finally, the weather changed significantly in only three months. Second, enhancing public transportation is the cheapest method to resolve carbon emissions at the moment. The government can create a clear plan for enhancing public transportation because they only need to count and record the orders for the number of buses and other vehicles for transportation. Therefore, the government can clearly know how much money they will pay. Conversely, providing financial support for companies is risky. This is because the mission of companies is to earn money, which means that they always desire to consider earning money rather than helping people. Therefore, the government gives them abundant money, but they probably will only make low-quality and standard systems. In conclusion, improving public transportation has more significant benefits than providing financial support.

In my opinion, focusing on the improvement of public transportation is a more effective approach to addressing carbon emissions, as mentioned by Student A. This is primarily due to the practicality and cost-effectiveness of upgrading public transportation systems.
Firstly, it is logistically simpler for governments to enhance public transportation rather than providing financial support to specific companies and consumers. For instance, Beijing once faced severe pollution issues due to excessive traffic, which adversely affected the city's air quality and citizens' health. To tackle this problem, the government opted to improve public transportation by increasing the number of buses per station and making subway services more frequent. This strategic decision led to a significant improvement in air quality within just three months.
Secondly, investing in public transportation is currently the most cost-effective method for reducing carbon emissions. Governments can develop comprehensive plans for enhancing public transportation infrastructure by accurately estimating the required number of buses and other vehicles needed. This allows them to allocate funds efficiently and effectively monitor expenses. On the other hand, providing financial support to companies carries inherent risks as their primary objective is profit maximization. Consequently, they may prioritize revenue generation over creating high-quality, environmentally friendly products or services.
In light of these factors, it becomes evident that improving public transportation offers greater benefits in terms of practicality and cost-effectiveness when compared to providing financial support for electric vehicle manufacturers and consumers. (239 words)
From In my perspective, I think opinion, focusing on the improvement of public transportation is most likely to solve a more effective approach to addressing carbon emissions, which is Claire’s thought. as mentioned by Claire (reason for revision: use the given name instead of "Student A"). This is because primarily due to the practicality and cost-effectiveness of upgrading public transportation systems.
Firstly, it is more practical to upgrade public transportation. First of all, it is easier for the government to upgrade public transportation logistically simpler for governments to enhance public transportation rather than to provide financial support, and both can achieve the same result. Providing providing financial support is actually a complicated process since the government has to consider many factors. to specific companies and consumers (reason for revision: clearer phrasing). For example, instance, Beijing was the most polluted city in China since it had too much once faced severe pollution issues due to excessive traffic, which caused terrible weather in adversely affected the city's air quality and citizens' health. To tackle this city. However, problem, the government was required opted to improve the weather and reduce pollution suddenly because it was unhealthy for citizens. Therefore, they decided to improve public transportation, such as public transportation by increasing the number of buses per station and making the subway services more frequent. Finally, the weather changed significantly This strategic decision led to a significant improvement in only air quality within just three months. Second, enhancing public transportation is the cheapest months (reason for revision: rephrased for clarity).
Secondly, investing in public transportation is currently the most cost-effective method to resolve for reducing carbon emissions at the moment. The government (reason for revision: clearer phrasing). Governments can create a clear plan develop comprehensive plans for enhancing public transportation because they only need to count and record the orders for the infrastructure by accurately estimating the required number of buses and other vehicles for transportation. Therefore, the government can clearly know how much money they will pay. Conversely, needed. This allows them to allocate funds efficiently and effectively monitor expenses. On the other hand, providing financial support for to companies is risky. This is because the mission of companies is to earn money, which means carries inherent risks as their primary objective is profit maximization (reason for revision: clearer explanation). Consequently, they may prioritize revenue generation over creating high-quality, environmentally friendly products or services.
In light of these factors, it becomes evident that they always desire to consider earning money rather than helping people. Therefore, the government gives them abundant money, but they probably will only make low-quality and standard systems. In conclusion, improving public transportation has more significant offers greater benefits than in terms of practicality and cost-effectiveness when compared to providing financial support.support for electric vehicle manufacturers and consumers (reason for revision: rephrased conclusion sentence).

I believe that an environmental tax should be set on air travel since it inspires the awareness of the customers to protect the environment. To elaborate, passengers could visually realize how much they have done by seeing the number of taxes shown on the website, encouraging them to choose more eco-friendly airlines in the future. For example, when I choose the airline for my trip, I will select the lower-tax airline, which indicates less pollution from that. Some might claim that taxes should be paid by airlines rather than customers because taxes are punishing passengers without incentivizing airlines to become more eco-friendly. However, the market decides the support. If more and more customers are keen to choose eco-friendly planes by measuring green taxes, healthy competition will be built, so the companies might pay more attention to designing their products to be more environmentally friendly.

Revised Essay: I am in favor of implementing an environmental tax on air travel, as it fosters environmental consciousness among passengers. Specifically, by displaying the tax amount on ticket booking websites, customers can gauge their environmental impact and be motivated to opt for more eco-friendly airlines in the future. For instance, when selecting an airline for my journey, I would choose one with lower taxes, signifying reduced pollution levels. While some argue that such taxes unfairly burden passengers without incentivizing airlines to adopt greener practices, I contend that market forces will ultimately drive change. As an increasing number of customers prioritize eco-friendly carriers based on their green tax contributions, a healthy competitive environment will emerge, compelling companies to focus on developing more environmentally sustainable products and services. In my opinion, I concur with Claire’s viewpoint that setting penalty for the companies causing pollution shows significant environmental outcome. Furthermore, I would like to emphasize that high taxes prevent business form harming the environment. For instance, as we known, the priority of the companies is making profits as much as they could, they would change their process into environment-friendly way avoiding the serious punishment such as pollution taxes. Consequently, industry-induced environmental pollution will eventually be reduced or even disappear. Still, a voice arises that it couldn’t totally stop the polluting business as they pay the fine and continue their polluting behavior. However, it overlooks the fact that every company is cost-effective, if the tax exceeds the profits they can make, they would like to choose less taxing option to make their business.

In my opinion, I concur with Claire’s viewpoint that setting penalty for the companies causing pollution shows significant environmental outcome. Furthermore, I would like to emphasize that high taxes prevent business formfrom(Detects potentially wrong usage of "form") harming the environment.
For instance, as we knownhave known(Agreement error: past participle without 'have'), the priority of the companies is making profits as much as they could, they would change their process into environment-friendly way avoiding the serious punishment such as pollution taxes.

I concur with Claire's perspective for several reasons. Firstly, investing in the improvement and expansion of public transportation, such as constructing subway lines, increasing the number of buses in cities, and enhancing train connectivity between cities, would encourage more people to opt for these modes of transport. The convenience, affordability, and environmental benefits of public transportation make it an attractive choice for commuters. As more individuals choose public transportation over personal vehicles, air pollution levels will decrease significantly. Additionally, the increased usage of public transportation will generate higher tax revenues for the government. These funds can then be allocated to various sectors within the country, such as defense and infrastructure development. (115 words)

From my point of view, I firmly believe that it is not a reasonable way to add the environmental taxes on the air travel, a sentiment that aligns with Claire. The primary rationale behind this stance is that the more taxes which are imposing on individuals might cause financial burden. As we all know, people are required to pay large multitudes to taxes in the contemporary society, such as the product taxes, housing taxes and some medical taxes. Provided that some people do not necessarily need to take the airplane while they should still pay extra fee. Thus, this might lead to people’s dissatisfaction to society and their financial strain. While Andrew’s argument regarding the other way of people might choose to travel holds some merits, it is totally crucial that this method will not solve the problem radically. As an illustration, if someday the government do not impose the air taxes, people would still start to use planes primarily due to its highly convenience.

In my perspective, imposing environmental taxes on air travel is not a viable solution to address air pollution, echoing Claire's stance. The primary reason for this belief is that additional taxes could place an undue financial burden on individuals. It is well-known that people already pay a multitude of taxes in today's society, such as product taxes, housing taxes, and medical taxes. Imposing extra fees on air travel may lead to public dissatisfaction and increased financial strain for those who do not necessarily need to take airplanes.
Although Andrew's argument about encouraging alternative modes of transportation has some merit, it is essential to recognize that this approach does not fundamentally address the issue at hand. For instance, if the government were to remove air travel taxes in the future, people would likely revert to using airplanes as their primary mode of transportation due to its unparalleled convenience. Instead of merely shifting the financial burden onto passengers, efforts should be directed towards incentivizing airlines to adopt environmentally friendly practices and invest in cleaner technologies. This approach would have a more significant and lasting impact on reducing air pollution while minimizing the financial burden on individuals. (198 words)

In my perspective, I agree with Paul’s statement that there are possible actions that can contribute to improve environment. Admittedly, people have to use energy and maintain food to sustain the development of economy, as Claire’s mentioned. However, people also use a lot of approaches to reduce the carbon dioxide, such as publican bicycle in urban city, electricity cars and so on. Government encourages these actions by politics with rewards. In additional, with the development of education, more and more people will have awareness of reserving energy and defending pollution. I believe that, in the progress of education and politics, we can construct a recycling world, enhancing the economy and protecting the environment at the same time.

-

In my perspective, I agree with Paul’s statement that there are possible actions that can contribute to improve environment. Admittedly, people have to use energy and maintain food to sustain the development of economythe economy(This rule identifies whether the article 'the' is missing in a sentence.), as Claire’s mentioned.
In my perspective, I concur with Paul's assertion that various actions can contribute to environmental improvement. While it is true that people must utilize energy and maintain food production for economic development, as Claire mentioned, numerous approaches have been implemented to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. For instance, urban cities have promoted public bicycles and electric vehicles, which are supported by government policies and incentives. Furthermore, the advancement of education has led to increased awareness of energy conservation and pollution prevention. As a result, I am confident that through continuous progress in education and policy implementation, we can create a sustainable world that fosters both economic growth and environmental protection.
