In the coming weeks, we will be talking about how governments should enforce public safety. We will start with transportation safety, since it accounts for a large portion of public safety. It has become a common practice for most countries to enact laws requiring drivers and passengers to buckle up, and cyclists to wear helmet. Although such measures have proven to be effective in saving lives, critics say that they erode people's freedom. Please share your opinions with the class on this question before our next class: is it justified for governments to require citizens to wear safety gears like safety belts and helmets?
Claire
I will have to say that governments and the police officers are abusing their power when they require citizens to take certain safety measures. Free will is people's most important right, and people should be entitled to use their own discretion when it comes to risk management, as long as it does not involve others, which is the case for safety belts and helmets. In addition, such measures often incur financial burden on citizens. Yes, buckling up and wearing helmets do save lives, but in very rare cases. After all, how often do people get involved in car accidents? But they are now forced to pay certain money for uncertain accidents.
Paul
I advocate human rights and free will as much as Claire, and I would like to point out a fact: survival is the primal human right. So I think it is totally rightful for governments to enforce safety measures to protect the public. Witnessing the tragic and graphic car accident scenes and imagining the huge grief suffered by the victims' families, it would be senseless, if not cruel, to attack such measures. Also, safety belts and helmets do not only save lives, they also dramatically reduce the damage done to those who do survive car accidents and hence the medical costs incurred. All in all, mandatory safety precautions bring about so many benefits, which dwarf its minimal, while necessary, right intrusion.

I agree with Claire, it is not justified for government to require citizens to were safety gears because the citizens need the power of personal free. Although the gears can increase safety and reduce harm from traffic problems, it can not solve the problem from the root. If government want people to wear something to protect themselves, wear a whole-body gears may be the most effective one, but it is not reliable, and the gears would do so. It is more justified and rational for government to public more restricted laws and increase the punishment of whom break the traffic regulations. If all of the citizens follow the transport regulations, the traffic problem would appeared lease and lease, which is also a strategy dosen't brek people's freadom.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision
While I understand the importance of personal freedom, I believe that it is justified for governments to require citizens to wear safety gear such as seat belts and helmets. Although these measures may not address the root cause of traffic accidents, they have been proven to save lives and reduce injuries. Instead of viewing these requirements as an infringement on individual liberties, we should consider them as complementary to stricter traffic laws and increased penalties for those who violate them. By combining mandatory safety gear usage with comprehensive traffic regulations, we can create a safer environment for all road users without significantly compromising personal freedom. (110 words)
Revised essay: Section Title: 7 Article Revision
I agree with Claire, it is not justified for the government to require citizens to were wear safety gears gear (changed "were" to "wear" and added "the" before "government" for correct grammar and clarity) because the citizens need the power of personal free. freedom (changed "free" to "freedom" for proper word usage). Although the gears gear can increase safety and reduce harm from traffic problems, it can not cannot (combined "can not" into one word for proper spelling) solve the problem from the root. If the government want wants (changed "want" to "wants" for subject-verb agreement) people to wear something to protect themselves, wear a wearing whole-body gears gear may be the most effective one, option (rephrased for clarity), but it is not reliable, and the gears other gear would do so. It is more justified and rational for the government to public enact (changed "public" to "enact" for correct word usage) more restricted restrictive laws and increase the punishment of for those who break (changed "of whom break the break" to "who break") traffic regulations. If all of the citizens follow the transport regulations, the transportation regulations (changed "transport" to "transportation"), traffic problem problems would appeared lease and lease, appear less and less frequent (rephrased for clarity), which is also a strategy dosen't that doesn't infringe on people's freedom (corrected spelling of "dosen't brek people's freadom.freadom").
