This week, I want you to discuss assessment criteria. Some schoolteachers give high grades (marks) only to those students who perform well on their homework assignments and tests. Other teachers, however, may give high grades to students who have worked very hard on their assignments but have not performed so well. Which approach do you think is better: Giving grades based only on performance, or grading students not just on performance but also on their effort?
Kelly
I think grades should be based on performance only. It’s a matter of fairness. I’d be really upset if another student got nearly the same grade that I did when I turned in work that was almost perfect and the other student’s work had incorrect answers or unclear ideas. It wouldn’t matter to me if they worked harder.
Paul
Sure, evaluation should mainly be based upon the student’s performance, but hard work should count for something. A student who works hard, even when the final grade isn’t the highest in the class, builds character, which will benefit the student later in life when they go to university or apply for a job.

I believe the grading should cinsider both test scores and daily performances. To be more specific, the hardwork and effort students paid on studying will establish a more comprehensive imagine of what does the student do. At the same time, students could learn valuable lessons through mistakes they make in the tasts. For instance, I did not do well on my biology assessment about ecology in biozone, but I spent 2 hours per day on this test, and doing all of my assignment carefully. And I learned why I did not do well from correcting my test. My teacher still gived me an A and it encouraged me a lot. Still, some people claim that the considering of daily performance is not fair for the students who did well in the tests. But the encouraging of improving and focusing on only the test score might lead to grievous exam-oriented education. And make student lose their passion

Title: 6 文章修订
I firmly believe that grading should take into account both test scores and daily performance. Specifically, evaluating the hard work and effort students put into their studies can provide a more comprehensive understanding of their overall abilities. Additionally, students can learn valuable lessons from the mistakes they make on tests.
For example, I did not perform well on my biology assessment about ecology in the biozone. However, I dedicated two hours per day to preparing for this test and completed all of my assignments diligently. After reviewing my errors, I understood why I did not excel in the assessment. Despite this setback, my teacher still awarded me an A, which greatly encouraged me.
While some may argue that considering daily performance is unfair to students who perform well on tests, it is important to recognize that focusing solely on test scores can lead to an unhealthy exam-oriented education system. This approach may ultimately cause students to lose their passion for learning and hinder their long-term development. (169 words)

I concur with Kelly concerning this issue, and I respectfully hold that Paul does not think about the potential problems that will probably arise if the hard work accounts for the degree. Besides the reason raised by Kelly, I also believe that grading solely based on performance is an efficient way. The performance, especially whether an answer is right or wrong, is clear without any doubts or hesitation, and it enables the teacher to keep the same grading system in a relieving way. The teacher can save time since they do not need to consider the grades distributed to specific actions case by case and they can utilize the same sum of time to enhance their pedagogy, and they can pay more attention to students. On the contrary, although Paul's opinion makes sense to some degree, he overlooks the potential time consumption for the teacher to decide the grades for the hard work case by case, which will be detrimental to the education activities. For example, when a student spends two hours on the assignments while another student spends only an hour but makes comprehensive notes, the teacher will need a lot of time to consider how to grade their hard work. Therefore, I believe grading the students based on their performance is better.

Section Title: Assessment Criteria in Education
I agree with Kelly on this matter, and I respectfully argue that Paul does not fully consider the potential issues that may arise if effort is factored into grading. In addition to Kelly's argument, I also believe that evaluating students solely based on performance is a more efficient approach. Assessing performance, particularly in terms of correct or incorrect answers, provides a clear and objective basis for grading, allowing teachers to maintain a consistent evaluation system with ease. By doing so, educators can save time as they do not need to assess grades on a case-by-case basis for individual efforts. Instead, they can allocate this time towards improving their teaching methods and providing more focused attention to their students.
Conversely, while Paul's perspective has some merit, he overlooks the potential time-consuming nature of determining grades for effort on an individual basis, which could negatively impact educational activities. For instance, if one student spends two hours on assignments while another student only takes an hour but produces comprehensive notes, the teacher would need to invest considerable time in deciding how to grade their respective efforts.
In light of these considerations, I firmly believe that grading students based on their performance is the better approach. This method ensures fairness and objectivity while also allowing teachers to devote more time and energy towards enhancing their pedagogy and supporting their students' growth. (233 words)

I think Paul is right saying that hard work is meaningful for a student’s future career development. It’s reasonable to give hardworking students some extra marks to encourage them continuing putting every effort in their future assignments. However, this approach works better only with strict limits on the percentage of credit given to students’ effort. Otherwise, some students may misundersstand this purpose and believe that putting effort is an alternate to completing tasks as required. If simply writing three more pages worths the same credit as clearly explaining a complex concept, students who are not good at writing an essay would directly go with the first option and lose the opportunity of improving theire writing skills. However, it’s highly unlikey that they will be evaluated in this way in future workplaces. For example, a salesperson who makes the most phone calls but has a unsatisfactory performance will probably not get a promotion. Therefore, I think the ideal approach should use both performance and effort as evaluating metrics but should be heavily weighted in favour of performance.

3. Task completeness
The essay effectively addresses the task requirements by expressing a clear opinion and contributing to the discussion with well-supported arguments. However, there is room for improvement in elaborating on some points, such as explaining how strict limits on effort-based grading could be implemented. Additionally, the essay could benefit from providing more specific examples to support the argument.
Example 1: Instead of just mentioning that hard work should be rewarded with extra marks, you could provide a specific example or scenario where this approach would be beneficial for students.
Example 2: To further support your argument about the importance of performance-based grading in future workplaces, you could provide an example of a real-life situation where an employee's performance is crucial for their success.
4. Essay structure and organization
The essay has a clear structure with an introduction, body, and conclusion. The organization is mostly logical, but there are some areas where transitions between ideas could be improved. Additionally, some paragraphs focus on multiple points which can make it harder for readers to follow your argument.
Example 1: To improve transitions between ideas, you can use phrases like "on the other hand," "moreover," or "in addition" to help guide readers through your essay.
Example 2: To make your essay easier to follow, try focusing each paragraph on one main point or argument. For instance, you could dedicate one paragraph to discussing the benefits of performance-based grading and another paragraph to discussing the importance of considering effort in grading.
5. Grammar
I think Paul is rightright,(This rule identifies whether commas are missing in a sentence.) saying that hard work is meaningful for a student’s future career development. It’s reasonable to give hardworking students some extra marks to encourage them continuing putting every effort in their future assignments. However, this approach works better only with strict limits on the percentage of credit given to students’ effort. Therefore, I think the ideal approach should use both performance and effort as evaluating metrics but, but(Detects missing comma before "but") should be heavily weighted in favourfavor(misspelling) of performance.
Display title: 6 Revised Essay
I concur with Paul's assertion that hard work plays a significant role in a student's future career development. It is justifiable to award additional marks to diligent students as a means of encouraging their continued dedication towards future assignments. However, this approach is most effective when strict limitations are imposed on the percentage of credit attributed to a student's effort. Failing to do so may lead some students to misconstrue the intention and assume that exerting effort can substitute for fulfilling tasks as required. For instance, if merely writing three extra pages garners the same credit as succinctly elucidating a complex concept, students struggling with essay writing might opt for the former, thereby missing out on opportunities to enhance their writing skills. It is highly improbable that they will be assessed in this manner in their future workplaces. To illustrate, a salesperson who makes numerous phone calls but demonstrates unsatisfactory performance is unlikely to receive a promotion. Consequently, I believe that an optimal evaluation approach should incorporate both performance and effort as assessment criteria while maintaining a strong emphasis on performance. (186 words)

In concurrence with Kelly, I firmly believe that grades should be based solely on performance. Kelly raises a valid point regarding fairness; if a student receives a higher grade without demonstrating superior work, it can negatively impact the morale of others. Consequently, students may lose motivation to excel in their assignments and exams. While Paul argues that recognizing hard work builds character and benefits students later in life, he fails to acknowledge that real-world evaluations, such as salaries, are primarily determined by performance. Employers typically prioritize results over effort. Therefore, adopting a performance-based grading system not only ensures fairness but also better prepares students for future endeavors.

Kelly presents a compelling case in favor grading based only on performance. Admittedly, for many, grading scholars like that potentially means a preparation for actual tests as they are always scored solely on performance. However, I am inclined to concur with Paul's idea that grade students not only due to their performance but also efforts they put. In my view, grading only on performance do not bode well for students who have test anxieties as they may not perform in their best conditions, though they actually put more effort than others. In fact, a recent research conducted in Monash University that over forty percent scholars are experienced with test anxieties though they do quite a lot of preparations afore than others, including materials research, textbook review, and group discussions, but that can not prevent the bad results they get at last, while others put forth little effort but get higher rewards. In other words, assessing students' achievements by looking not only performance but also efforts they put in will be significantly equal to all scholars. Therefore, I firmly believe that by grading both these two aspects can enable students to work harder and get better results in turn.

I agree with Kelly's idea that grades should base on performance only. First of all, the quality of assignments and tests are the result of students' long-term accumulation. Many students may devote to their study for several years thus they can get the high score easily nowadays. If they get the same score with others,it seems a deny to their long-term persistence. Not only their feeling will be hurt, but also their enthusiasm to study will be reduced. Besides, many students are used to study alone. Those who can get high score may study late at home rather than at school thus their endeavour may not be seen by others. So in my opinion, the assessment criteria should only base on performance.

I concur with Kelly's perspective that grades should be solely based on performance. Firstly, the quality of assignments and tests reflects students' long-term knowledge accumulation. Numerous students may have dedicated years to their studies, enabling them to achieve high scores with relative ease. Awarding them the same score as others would undermine their persistent efforts. This could not only hurt their feelings but also dampen their enthusiasm for learning.
Furthermore, many students prefer studying independently. Those who attain high scores might spend late nights studying at home rather than at school, making their efforts less visible to others. Consequently, it is essential that assessment criteria focus exclusively on performance to ensure fairness and recognition of individual achievements. (120 words)

I concur with Paul's perspective. Some students may have certain shortcomings or lack confidence, which could impact their academic performance. However, this should not negate the recognition of their efforts. It is essential to understand that not all individuals excel in taking tests, and solely relying on test scores to gauge their knowledge can be misleading. For instance, my brother has a profound interest in biology and has invested significant time in learning about human organs. Despite his dedication, he struggles with memorizing the functions of these organs, which adversely affects his test scores. In his final exam, he received a low grade, leading his teacher to assume he lacked knowledge in biology. I firmly believe that effort-based grading would be better, since it motivates students to work harder. When making painstaking efforts, some people will achieve great achievement, but for some people, however, bad performance stems from their less effective approach. In this case, good grades will motivate student who endeavors but not having good academic performance and give them confidence to achieve better performance. Better grades provide them with confidence and time to adjust their studying methods to a more effective one and thus improve their performance. In qualitative research, there are a lot of uncertainty: the subjects may reject to participate or intentionally hold some information back, thus making the research less effective.Teacher should consider give a satisfying grades in this scenario, since it will motivate the student time to find a better interviewing way.

Although diligent efforts may lead to exceptional achievements for some individuals, others may still struggle due to less effective learning strategies. In such cases, rewarding hardworking students with better grades can boost their confidence and motivate them to improve their academic performance. This positive reinforcement allows students the opportunity to refine their study methods and ultimately enhance their overall performance. Additionally, in qualitative research, numerous uncertainties may arise, such as participants refusing to cooperate or withholding crucial information. Nowadays, professors in universities pay more attention to how to grading their students. Although only focusing on students’ performance bears benefits, I believe that considering their hard working as well as their performance is considerably significant to evaluate students level, because this method guarantees equity. To be specific, professors better understand students and the problems they met while finishing assignments. For instance, during the final period of a semester, I was badly ill and failed to take part in the final presentation. If the professor ignored my effort among the whole semester, I might fail in that course. In contemporary academia, the evaluation of students' performance is a critical aspect that educators must address. While assessing students solely based on their academic achievements has its merits, I firmly believe that incorporating both effort and performance into the grading process is essential for a more equitable and comprehensive evaluation. This approach allows professors to better understand their students and the challenges they face while completing assignments.
For example, during the final period of a semester, I fell severely ill and was unable to participate in the final presentation. Had my professor disregarded my diligent efforts throughout the semester, I might have failed the course. However, he provided me with an opportunity to submit my slides and notes for assessment, ultimately grading me based on those materials. This method not only demonstrates fairness but also encourages a holistic evaluation of students' abilities.
Moreover, this approach prepares students for real-world experiences by emphasizing the importance of perseverance—a crucial trait for success in any professional setting. Consequently, adopting a grading strategy that takes into account both performance and effort benefits students in both short- and long-term aspects of their academic and professional lives.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision
In my opinion, grading should be based solely on performance, as Kelly suggests, since it provides a fair assessment of students' academic abilities in college. The primary reason for this stance is that, whether in an educational setting or a professional environment, the final product is ultimately what teachers or clients are most interested in. Although it may seem harsh, this reality is something we must come to terms with as students preparing for life after graduation. Any shortcomings in one's performance within a social context can have significant negative repercussions on their future career prospects.
While I understand Paul's perspective that hard work should be taken into account, I believe that as students, our primary responsibility is to strive for excellence in every assignment we undertake. This dedication will enable us to produce high-quality work that reflects our true capabilities and potential. (148 words)

Paul presents a compelling argument that a students hard work should count for his grades because it will benefit him later in school or in occupation. Admittedly, it may seem unfair and cause frustration if two students get the same grade but their academic performance varies a lot. Nonetheless, prioritizing the performance on homework and exam drives students to pursue grades utilitarianally and unscrupulously. I think the key of education lies in not only teaching knowledge, but more importantly in teaching a student the way to study. Working hard is precious, necessary and can yield worthwhile returns. Giving a student who works hard a proper and relatively higher grade incentivize him to keep on working hard and pursue the best.

I believe that grade evaluation for students should be based on both hard work and performance on assignments. Firstly, Students that work hard on their projects might face mental stress or even depression if they cannot improve their grades. Then, they might start to believe that they are not as good as the others, which would thoroughly damage their confidence and will cause problems in later life. On the other hand, performance still matters. People also want to keep up the confidence of students whose performance on projects deliver good results, so that both hard work and actual performance are appreciated without one part of the students becoming unconfident. The schools and teachers can solve this issue by the means of grading the students with their hard work in mind as much as their performance, hence boosting the confidence of the hard-working students as well as the ones that perform well.

3. Task completeness
The essay effectively addresses the task requirements by expressing an opinion on the grading system and providing support for that opinion. However, there is room for improvement in terms of elaborating on specific examples or details to further strengthen the argument. Additionally, it would be beneficial to address both Kelly's and Paul's viewpoints from the reading passage more directly.
Suggestions for improvement:
-
Provide specific examples or scenarios where grading based on effort would be beneficial.
-
Address both Kelly's and Paul's viewpoints more directly, comparing and contrasting their opinions with your own.
Example 1: "In response to Kelly's concern about fairness, I believe that acknowledging effort can still maintain a fair grading system if implemented correctly. For instance, teachers could assign a small percentage of the grade to effort, ensuring that high-performing students are still rewarded while also recognizing hard work."
Example 2: "Paul mentioned that hard work builds character, which is an important aspect of personal development. By incorporating effort into grading criteria, schools can encourage students to develop a strong work ethic that will serve them well in their future endeavors."
4. Essay structure and organization
The essay has a clear structure with an introduction, body paragraphs discussing different aspects of the topic, and a conclusion. However, there is room for improvement in terms of transitions between ideas and paragraphs.
Suggestions for improvement:
-
Use transitional phrases or words to connect ideas more smoothly.
-
Organize paragraphs in a way that flows logically from one point to another.
Example 1: "Firstly, considering effort in grading can help prevent students from becoming discouraged due to low grades despite their hard work. In addition, performance should still be a significant factor in grading to reward those who excel academically."
Example 2: "Moreover, schools can strike a balance between rewarding effort and performance by implementing a grading system that takes both factors into account. This approach would not only boost the confidence of hard-working students but also maintain fairness for high-performing students."

In my opinion, the evaluation of students' grades should take into account both their effort and performance on assignments.
Firstly, students who invest significant effort into their projects may experience mental stress or even depression if they do not see improvements in their grades. This could lead them to believe that they are inferior to their peers, which would severely damage their self-confidence and potentially cause issues later in life.
On the other hand, performance undoubtedly plays a crucial role. It is essential to maintain the confidence of students who consistently produce high-quality work so that both hard work and actual performance are valued without causing any group of students to feel discouraged.
To address this issue, schools and teachers can adopt a balanced grading approach that considers both effort and performance. This strategy would boost the confidence of hard-working students while also recognizing those who excel academically. In my opinion, I would subscribe to Kelly’s opinion that teachers give grades to students by judging their assignment or test performance merely. It is definitely unfair if students who do their work perfectly have a same grade as students who don’t meet any of the teacher’s requirements besides their hardworking effort. In addition to her reasons, another reason I want to add is that the performance of students can reflect their capability and comprehension of the course intuitively. Moreover, getting higher assignment grades means students have paid much endeavor in achieving it as well. For instance, I was interested in anatomy when I was studying the fundamental courses of my major. So I spent a lot of my leisure time understanding the position of each organs and their characteristics and functions. Thanks to my persistence, I got a satisfactory results in that class. Granted, Paul’s viewpoint has some merit, emphasizing a hardworking nature is essential to a student. However, he overlooks the potential negative impact on teachers. Letting hard work become one of standards to evaluate students’ performance will increase the workloads of teachers and cause some relationship problems between students. To sum up, due to the significance of the performance, giving grades based only on consequence is totally rational.

Title: 6 文章修订
In my opinion, I concur with Kelly's perspective that teachers should assign grades to students based solely on their performance in assignments and tests. It is undoubtedly unjust for students who excel in their work to receive the same grade as those who fail to meet the teacher's expectations, regardless of their effort. Furthermore, a student's performance accurately reflects their understanding and mastery of the course material. High grades typically indicate that a significant amount of effort has been invested in achieving them, as very few students possess the innate talent to excel without hard work.
For example, during my studies in the foundational courses of my major, I developed a keen interest in anatomy. Consequently, I dedicated much of my free time to learning about the location and functions of various organs. My perseverance paid off as I obtained satisfactory results in that class.
While Paul's argument holds some merit by emphasizing the importance of a strong work ethic for students, it neglects the potential negative consequences for teachers. Incorporating effort into grading criteria would increase teachers' workloads and potentially create conflicts among students.
In conclusion, considering the paramount importance of academic performance, it is entirely reasonable for teachers to assign grades based solely on outcomes. (210 words)

From my point of view, I am in favor of Kelly's opinion that grades should be based on performance only.If teachers take students' effort into consideration when grading, it will be unfair for students with flawless work.Additionally, I would like to add a few new perspectives to Kelly's idea.Grading also on students' effort is not good for teachers. First of all, grading also on students' effort will definitely add the burden of teachers. For example, math teachers who have already taken a lot of responsibilities will spend more time on evaluating students' effort after math tests. What's more, grading on effort is a difficult work since there's no fixed standard for this. Therefore, when grading on effort, teachers may give this kind of points by themselves. In the long run some students who don't get good grade due to the new standard may resent teachers. In conclusion, I think that we should not encourage teachers to grade also on effort.

In my perspective, I concur with Kelly's viewpoint that grades should be based solely on performance. Factoring in students' effort when grading would be unjust for those who submit impeccable work. Moreover, I would like to offer some additional insights to support Kelly's argument. Assessing students' effort can be detrimental for teachers as well. Firstly, considering effort in grading would undoubtedly increase the workload of teachers. For instance, math instructors who are already burdened with numerous responsibilities will have to invest more time evaluating students' diligence after exams. Furthermore, determining effort is a challenging task since there is no established standard for it. Consequently, when assessing effort, teachers may resort to subjective judgment, which could lead to resentment from students who receive lower grades due to this new criterion. (134 words)

I prefer more to give grades based only on performance. From my perspective, a student who has high grades must've also made an endeavor to achieve this, no less those who didn't get good grades and didn't just rely on talent. Perhaps it's just that teachers don't notice their effort. The grade you get must match with your incorect answers, due to the efforts you made. What's more, those wo performed well must also have a better pyschological quality, and that's one of the factors that have an influence to your performance. If a techer really wants to encourage those who had worked hard but not performed really well, he or she can talk to the student privately to encourage him or her, or even praise this student for the progress he or she made in front of the whole class to build up his or her confidence. Using this way, it will be fair to those who performed well and encourage those who worked hard at the same time, and have positive effects on both types of students.

In my opinion, assigning grades based solely on performance is the preferable approach. It is important to recognize that students who achieve high grades have likely put forth significant effort, just as those who may not have performed as well. Teachers may not always be aware of the hard work behind a student's success. Grades should accurately reflect a student's mastery of the subject matter, taking into account both correct and incorrect answers, as well as their overall psychological disposition which can impact performance.
To support and encourage students who have worked diligently but may not have achieved high grades, teachers can adopt alternative methods of recognition. For instance, they could engage in private conversations with these students to offer encouragement or publicly acknowledge their progress in front of the class to boost their confidence. This approach maintains fairness for high-performing students while simultaneously motivating those who have demonstrated strong work ethic. Ultimately, this strategy fosters a positive learning environment for all types of students by promoting both academic excellence and personal growth. (176 words)

I wholeheartedly concur with Kelly's assertion that fairness is crucial, and in future careers, competence is more valuable than mere attitude.
Furthermore, I believe that this approach can enhance students' learning abilities. Working diligently is not the sole aspect of education; mastering effective study methods and acquiring essential knowledge are also vital components. Students should focus on improving their grades by employing efficient strategies rather than relying solely on hard work.
While Paul makes a valid argument that hard work should be acknowledged, he fails to consider that in future careers, students cannot rely on their work ethic alone to increase their value within a company. Consequently, we can assert that this method does not benefit students in the long run.

In light of today’s highly competitive world, there are more and more debates on whether teachers should consider students’ efforts when giving their scores. From my perspective, I concur with Kelly’s statement, maintaining that grades on the basis of performance would be much fairer. It is not just the case that students with the same score have different performance, it also related to academic honesty. When someone lies to his teacher about his endeavors, it is really hard for teachers to distinguish and give a fair score. In addition, a good grade would be the result of efforts. When I get a good grade in math, it is definite that I pay enough time and energy to achieve it. Thus, there is no need to quantify my efforts. Paul’s statement makes sense to some extent, pointing out that students would benefit from their failures. Therefore, it is unnecessary to make students’ hard work recognizable in scores.

In today's increasingly competitive landscape, debates surrounding the consideration of students' efforts in grading have become more prevalent. I align with Kelly's viewpoint, asserting that performance-based grading is a fairer approach. This issue not only involves students receiving the same score despite differing performances but also concerns academic honesty. It becomes challenging for teachers to discern and assign fair scores when students are dishonest about their efforts. Moreover, good grades are often a direct result of hard work. For instance, when I achieve a high grade in math, it is evident that I have invested ample time and energy into accomplishing it. Consequently, there is no need to quantify my efforts separately.
While Paul's perspective holds merit to some degree by highlighting the benefits students can gain from their failures, it is unnecessary to recognize hard work explicitly through grades. (143 words)

I wholeheartedly share Paul's perspective, which underscores the fundamental idea that the process of critical thinking holds far greater importance than the pursuit of a correct answer or the attainment of high grades. For instance, consider my experience in Linear Algebra last semester. In this course, one could achieve high marks without a deep understanding of the underlying concepts and formulas, rendering that knowledge less applicable in other fields due to a lack of comprehension of how it precisely operates. Furthermore, I respectfully disagree with Kelly's assertion that grades should solely be based on performance. Such an environment is not conducive to fostering optimal learning conditions for students. It encourages a competitive focus on achieving higher grades, perpetually comparing oneself to others. This not only erodes students' genuine interest in learning but also contributes to elevated stress levels and harmful comparisons among peers.

Section Title: 6 Article Revision
I concur with Paul's viewpoint, emphasizing the crucial notion that cultivating critical thinking skills surpasses the quest for correct answers or high grades. Reflecting on my Linear Algebra course last semester, it was evident that one could obtain top marks without fully grasping the underlying concepts and formulas. This superficial understanding limited the applicability of such knowledge in other domains due to insufficient comprehension of its functionality. Contrarily, I respectfully challenge Kelly's stance that grades should exclusively rely on performance. Such an approach fails to create an optimal learning environment for students, as it fosters a competitive atmosphere centered on outperforming one another. Consequently, this detracts from students' genuine passion for learning and exacerbates stress levels while promoting unhealthy comparisons among peers. (127 words)

I think how to judge the students should only based on the performance the student plays in the class. As Kelly hold the performance based grades will be more fair to students joining the class. I think the performance can also unveil the latent working behind in the participation in class, thinking after class, and the understanding of the course. When a student can work well in the class through the homework, he or she must have a deep understand or struggling to face the difficulties to master the knowledge even he is thought no so much hard-working. Although Paul against this idea by saying the hard work should count for something, I think there is not a criteria to check how hard is the student in the class. We can not just use the working time or the number of homework he did to judge if the student has working hard enough. All of all, the performance on the homework and the exams will tell everyone how well the student is in mastering this course.

3. Task completeness
The essay does a good job of addressing the task requirements by expressing an opinion and contributing to the discussion. However, there is room for improvement in providing more specific examples or details to support the viewpoint. Additionally, some grammar errors and unclear language use can be improved.
Suggestions for improvement:
-
Provide more specific examples or evidence to support your opinion.
-
Improve grammar and vocabulary usage for better clarity.
Examples:
-
Instead of just stating that performance can unveil the latent working behind in participation, provide a concrete example of how this can be observed in a classroom setting.
-
To improve grammar, revise the sentence "I think how to judge the students should only based on the performance" to "I believe that students should be judged solely based on their performance."
4. Essay structure and organization
The essay has a clear structure with an introduction, body, and conclusion. However, it could benefit from clearer transitions between ideas and paragraphs to enhance its organization.
Suggestions for improvement:
-
Use transition words or phrases to connect ideas within paragraphs.
-
Ensure each paragraph focuses on one specific point with supporting details.
Examples:
-
Add transition words like "Furthermore" or "In addition" at the beginning of paragraphs or sentences to connect ideas.
-
Instead of combining both Kelly's and Paul's viewpoints in one paragraph, separate them into two distinct paragraphs with supporting details for each viewpoint.

In my opinion, evaluating students should primarily be based on their performance in class. This approach, as Kelly argues, ensures fairness among students participating in the course. Performance not only reflects a student's understanding of the material but also their engagement in class discussions and critical thinking outside of class. When a student excels in homework and exams, it demonstrates their ability to grasp complex concepts and overcome challenges, regardless of whether they are perceived as hard-working or not.
While Paul contends that hard work should also be considered, I believe it is difficult to establish a clear criterion for measuring effort. Relying solely on the amount of time spent studying or the number of assignments completed does not accurately reflect a student's dedication or commitment to learning.
Moreover, focusing on performance encourages students to strive for excellence and develop essential skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking. These skills will prove invaluable later in life when they attend university or enter the workforce. In contrast, grading based on effort may inadvertently reward mediocrity and discourage students from pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones.
In conclusion, assessing students based on their performance in homework and exams provides a more accurate representation of their mastery of the course material. This approach promotes fairness among students while fostering an environment that encourages personal growth and academic achievement. (230 words)
