Outcome Dependency People's first impressions of another person may be influenced by whether they depend on that person to help them achieve a particular goal. When people are dependent on another person to achieve a goal, or outcome, the situation is known as outcome dependency. When people perceive their success as being dependent on another person, they tend to have a favorable initial impression of that person. In other words, the effect of outcome dependency is that people perceive a new acquaintance as having traits that will be helpful in achieving a desired goal.

修订版(140词):

The article discusses outcome dependency, which involves people depending on others to achieve a goal. In the lecture, the professor provides an example of salespeople working in groups with a shared sales goal. Researchers divided these salespeople into two groups and showed them a video featuring a salesman discussing his qualifications. The first group simply watched the video without any context and was not impressed by the man. However, before watching the video, researchers informed the second group that this salesman would join their team and help them achieve their goal. Consequently, after viewing the video, these salespeople had a favorable impression of him as they believed he would contribute to their success. This demonstrates outcome dependency because their positive perception resulted from being told that he would join their team and help them achieve their goal, making him someone they could rely on.

Revised Answer (140 words):

The article discusses outcome dependency, where people rely on others to achieve their goals. In the lecture, the professor provides an example involving salespeople. The salespeople work in teams and have sales targets. The researchers divided the salespeople into two groups and had them watch the same video. The first group watched the video without any context, and after viewing it, they did not think highly of the man as a salesperson. Before the second group watched the video, the researchers informed them that the man would be joining their team and helping them reach their sales targets. As a result, after watching the video, the second group believed that the man would be an excellent salesperson. This example illustrates how outcome dependency can influence people's perceptions of others when they believe their success depends on that person.
