Extending Study Period The university now schedules one study day at the end of every semester for students to prepare for final exams. I suggest that the university consider extending this study period to three days. Most students have exams in several classes. Having only one study day between the end of classes and the beginning of the final exam period is not enough time to prepare for all of the exams. Additionally, having a three-day study period will give students extra time to consult with their professors if they need help or advice before the exam period begins. Sincerely, Robert Steele

However, in the listening, the woman disagrees with this proposal for several reasons. Firstly, she believes that students should be studying consistently throughout the semester rather than cramming in the last few days. She argues that a longer study period would only encourage procrastination and ineffective learning. Secondly, she points out that professors are extremely busy during the end of the semester with grading and preparing exams. As a result, they might not have the time to meet with students or answer their questions during this period. This would make it difficult for students to get the help they need, thereby negating one of the main benefits of extending the study period.
words": 141

https://lingoleapcdn-c4b3fvbvaxg2d4c5.z01.azurefd.net/audio/aedOd48Wfb8r.mp3?se=2024-11-14T06%3A35%3A40Z&sp=r&sv=2023-01-03&sr=b&sig=le3vHYOIporwBjKN4HdU6enbA%2BjCCf6dO8vtaPOOeTo%3D
Preference or Opinion": {"Main Point": "Disagreement with extending the study period before exams", "Supporting Examples": ["Students can't learn effectively just a few days before exams", "Beneficial to have a long-term study schedule", "Professors will be too busy to help students right before exams
For instance, professors often have multiple responsibilities and may not have time to help students prepare for their exams at the last minute.
One sub-opinion is that extending the study period can lead to better retention of information. For example, students can take the time to explore topics in greater detail, ask questions, and seek clarification from professors or peers. This deeper understanding can enhance their critical thinking skills and application of knowledge.", "A fourth sub-opinion is that it promotes better time management skills. Students who plan their study schedule over an extended period learn to manage their time effectively, balancing study with other responsibilities like work or extracurricular activities. This skill is valuable not only for exams but also for future professional and personal life.", "Lastly, a sub-opinion is that it provides opportunities for collaborative learning. When students have more time before exams, they can form study groups, discuss concepts, and help each other understand difficult topics. For example, group discussions can provide different perspectives and insights that might not be gained through individual study alone."]}
