Task Overview
Reading Passage
Procedural Memory The memories people form when they learn names and facts are different from the memories they form when they learn how to perform a task. These memories of performing particular actions are called procedural memories. Procedural memories are memories of the process of performing a task that become automatic with practice. Once a task has been practiced, or repeated many times, procedural memories are established. These procedural memories allow people to perform the action automatically and to recall it relatively easily many years later.

Revised Answer (140 words):
Procedural memory forms when people repeatedly practice a task or an action. It allows people to perform the action even after years without practice. The professor shared his experience with procedural memory. As a boy, he took guitar lessons. The teacher taught him how to hold the guitar and where to place his fingers on the strings. He would play for hours. After years of practicing, he could play the guitar effortlessly even without thinking of it. However, after college, he stopped playing guitar for several years. One day, he rediscovered his old guitar. To his surprise, after picking up the guitar, he found out that he could still play his favorite songs even without practicing for years. Even though he couldn't explain the technique used, it was procedural memory that enabled him to still play the guitar even without practicing for years.
