Task Overview

Reading Passage

Reactance  People of all ages generally prefer to have as much freedom as possible in determining their own behavior. When individuals feel that their actions are being unfairly limited, they often attempt to restore the freedom by directly contradicting or opposing the rule or regulation that threatened their freedom Both children and adults demonstrate behaviors that are the results of their urge to restore freedom. This reaction, termed "reactance" by psychologists, comes from an individual's desire to reestablish freedom and control of a situation.

4.话题发展 The speaker provides a coherent response, summarizing the examples from the lecture and connecting them to the concept of reactance. However, there is room for improvement in terms of organization and elaboration. The speaker could have provided a brief introduction to the concept of reactance before diving into the examples, and further explained how each example demonstrates the urge to restore freedom and control. To improve, the speaker should focus on better structuring their response and providing more detailed explanations of the examples.

Original Answer: In the lecture, the professor talks about reactionsreactance(反应应改为反抗). For example, first, imagine you're a kid and you always play in a playground. And one day, sadly, with no reason, you're not allowed to play there anymore. So you think that you want to play in a playground more than before. So you can sneak out, even ignoring your parents' rules. And second example is that, imagine there is a soap that is harmful to the environment. So the store stops selling that in the store. And with this restriction, people start to think that it is their right to buy whatever they like. So they buy a lot of soaps, even than they once before. So these two examples illustrate the concept of reactants.

Corrected Answer: In the lecture, the professor talks about reactionsreactance(反应应改为反抗). For example, first, imagine you're a child who frequently plays at a playground. One day, unexpectedly and without any explanation, you are forbidden from playing there. Consequently, your desire to play at the playground intensifies and you decide to sneak out despite your parents' rules. The second example involves a soap that is harmful to the environment. When stores stop selling it due to its negative impact, people begin to believe it is their right to purchase any product they choose. As a result, they buy more of this soap than they would have under normal circumstances. These two examples effectively illustrate the concept of reactance.

Revised 140-word Answer: In the lecture, the professor discusses reactance by providing two examples. First, imagine being a child who frequently plays at a playground. Suddenly, without any explanation, you are forbidden from playing there. This restriction leads to an increased desire to play at the playground, causing you to sneak out despite your parents' rules. The second example involves a soap that is harmful to the environment. When stores stop selling it due to its negative impact, people begin to believe it is their right to purchase any product they choose. Consequently, they buy more of this soap than they would have under normal circumstances. These two examples effectively illustrate the concept of reactance, demonstrating how individuals attempt to restore their freedom and control when faced with restrictions or limitations on their actions.

23. 3.Delivery

The speaker's delivery is generally clear and fluid, but there are some occasional pauses and minor pronunciation issues. To improve, the speaker should practice speaking at a consistent pace and work on pronouncing certain words more accurately. Additionally, focusing on proper punctuation and pausing at appropriate moments will help create a more natural flow in speech.

4.Topic Development The response is coherent and well-organized, with clear connections between ideas and sufficient support or examples. However, there is room for improvement in providing more detailed explanations of the examples given. The speaker should also focus on using more varied vocabulary to better express their ideas. By expanding on the examples and using a wider range of vocabulary, the response will be more engaging and demonstrate a deeper understanding of the concept of reactance.

5.Language Use

Original: If activities are unfairly limited and people would like to restore freedom by opposing to the rule, kids who are restricted from the playground by their parents think they are unfairly treated and they would like to play in the playground even more than before despite the limitation. This also happens among adults. A soup which is banned by the government is harmful for the environment. However, the customers even buy more than what they want because they are obsessed about the regulation and they try to resist to this regulation and desire to reestablish freedom.

Corrected: If activities are unfairly limited and people would like to restore freedom by opposing to opposing (removed unnecessary "to") the rule, kids who are restricted from the playground by their parents think they are unfairly treated and they would like to play in the playground even more than before despite the limitation. This also happens among adults. A soup soap (corrected word for accurate pronunciation) which is banned by the government is harmful for the environment. However, the customers even buy more than what they want because they are obsessed about with (changed preposition for natural flow) the regulation and they try to resist to against (changed preposition for natural flow) this regulation and desire to reestablish freedom.

Revised (140 words): When activities are unjustly restricted, individuals often seek to regain their freedom by opposing such rules. For instance, children who are prohibited from playing at a particular playground by their parents may feel unfairly treated and develop an even stronger desire to play there, despite the imposed limitations. This phenomenon also occurs among adults. For example, when the government bans a specific soap due to its harmful environmental effects, customers may react by purchasing more of the product than they actually need. This behavior stems from their obsession with the imposed regulation and their attempt to resist against it, ultimately aiming to reestablish their sense of freedom. By understanding the concept of reactance, we can better comprehend why people may act in seemingly irrational ways when faced with restrictions on their choices or actions.

原文:Reactors Reactance(反应力应为反应性) is a concept which means when people's action is unfairly limited, they attempt to restore more for their freedom. In the lecture, the professor used the example of children. When the children want to play on a playground and one day their parents don't allow them to go to the playground to play, they will think it's not fair and they want to go to the playground to play even more. They just stick sneak(应为“偷偷溜去”,而非“坚持”) away despite the unallowance prohibition(“不允许”应为“禁止”) of their parents. Secondly, the professor used the example of the selling of soap. The ingredient in the soap is said to be harmful to the environment, so they are not allowed to sell. However, people may think they just want to buy whatever they want to drink use(此处应为“使用”,而非“喝”) , so when they are not allowed, they just buy more soap, more than they need.

修订版(140词):

Reactance is a psychological concept that occurs when people feel their freedom is unfairly restricted, leading them to attempt restoring it. In the lecture, the professor illustrated this with two examples. First, he mentioned children who are suddenly forbidden by their parents from playing at their favorite playground. Feeling that this restriction is unfair, the children become even more determined to play there and may sneak away to do so, defying their parents' prohibition. The second example involved a town banning the sale of a particular soap due to an environmentally harmful ingredient. Despite the ban, people felt they should have the freedom to choose their soap and, as a result, bought even more of the restricted soap before the law took effect. Both examples demonstrate how individuals react against perceived unfair limitations by actively seeking to regain their freedom.

The speaker's delivery is generally clear and fluid, but there are some occasional pauses that disrupt the flow of speech. To improve, the speaker should practice speaking more consistently and avoid unnecessary pauses. Additionally, the speaker should work on their pronunciation to avoid any spelling errors that may result from inaccurate pronunciation.

4.Topic Development The speaker provides a coherent and well-organized response, with clear connections between ideas and sufficient support or examples. However, there is room for improvement in terms of providing more detailed explanations and elaborating on the examples given. To enhance topic development, the speaker should focus on expanding their explanations and providing more context for each example to better illustrate the concept of reactance.

Original: Reattainance means that when people's freedom is limited, they try to restore that freedom. For example, you usually go to a playground to play, but one day your parents said you're not allowed to go there, but you want to go there more. So you just sneak out over there in spite of the rules. For another example, one day the government banned the sales of a kind of soap that's harmful to the environment. Then people got very upset. They saw they can buy whatever soap they want, so they bought more soap in other circumstances. So these are the two examples of reattainance.

Corrected: Reattainance Reactance (corrected word for accurate vocabulary) means that when people's freedom is limited, they try to restore that freedom. For example, you usually go to a playground to play, but one day your parents said tell (corrected verb tense for consistency) you're not allowed to go there, but you want to go there more. So you just sneak out over there in spite of the rules. For another example, one day the government banned the sales of a kind of soap that's harmful to the environment. Then people got very upset. They saw believed (corrected word for clarity) they can buy whatever soap they want, so they bought more soap in other circumstances than usual (corrected phrase for clarity). So these are the two examples of reattainance reactance (corrected word for accurate vocabulary).

Revised (140 words):

Reactance occurs when people's freedom is limited, and they attempt to restore that freedom. For instance, imagine you frequently visit a playground to play, but one day your parents tell you that you are no longer allowed to go there. This restriction makes you want to visit the playground even more, so you sneak out and go there despite the rules. In another example, the government bans the sale of a particular soap that is harmful to the environment. People become upset about this restriction and believe they should be able to purchase any soap they desire. As a result, they buy more of this soap than usual before the ban takes effect. These two examples effectively illustrate the concept of reactance, where individuals seek to regain their sense of freedom and control when faced with limitations.

Reactance is the desire of individuals to regain their freedom and control in a given situation. The lecture provides two examples illustrating this concept. First, when a child is used to playing at a playground and their parents suddenly forbid them from playing there, the child's desire to play there increases. This demonstrates reactance as the child tries to regain control over their actions. In another example, when a town bans the sale of a particular soap due to an environmentally harmful ingredient, people become upset about the restriction. Then the kid will want to play there even more than before. As a result, he will try to choose the playground and play there anyways. The second example is that the professor gave is that a town had once passed a law that did not allow the stores to sell a certain kind of soaps, because this kind of soaps is very harmful to the environment, though it is not right to take the soap away. So one week before the law was true into effect, the resistance bought a whole lot of soaps.

Revised Answer (140 words):

The reading passage discusses reactance, a psychological response that occurs when an individual's freedom and control are threatened. The professor provides two examples to demonstrate this concept. In the first example, a child enjoys playing at a playground but is suddenly forbidden by their parents from doing so. This restriction makes the child unhappy and feel it's unfair, leading them to want to play there even more. Consequently, the child may sneak to the playground despite the rule. In the second example, a town bans the sale of a specific soap due to its harmful environmental impact. Despite the soap's effectiveness remaining unchanged, people become upset about the restriction and buy large quantities of the soap before the law takes effect. Both examples illustrate how individuals react when their freedom is limited, showcasing reactance in action.

Original Answer: Reactance means that people tend to restore their freedom of opposing the rules of regulations. For example, when you are a kid, you play at the playground and one day for no apparent reason your parents don't allow you to go to the playground and you will think that it is unfair and you want to go to the playground even more than before. So you just sneak there and ignore the rules they made. The second example is that there is a kind of soap sold in the town and one day it is not allowed to buy this soap because of this restriction made by the society government. So people tend to buy whatever they want and they just buy.

Corrected Answer: Reactance means Reactance occurs(更自然的表达方式) when people tend to attempt to(更准确地描述人们的行为) restore their freedom by opposing rules or regulations. For example, when you are a kid, you play at the playground, and one day, for no apparent reason, your parents don't allow you to go to the playground. You will think that it is unfair, and you want to go to the playground even more than before. So, you just sneak there and ignore the rules they made. The second example is that there is a kind of soap sold in the town, and one day it is not allowed to buy this soap because of this restriction made by the society government local authorities(更准确的词汇). So, people tend to buy whatever they want, and they just buy.

Revised Answer (140 words): Reactance occurs when people attempt to restore their freedom by opposing rules or regulations. For instance, imagine a child who frequently plays at a playground. One day, the child's parents suddenly forbid them from going to the playground without providing any reason. The child perceives this as unfair and becomes even more determined to visit the playground. Consequently, the child sneaks to the playground, disregarding their parents' rules. Another example involves a town where a specific type of soap is sold. The local authorities impose a restriction on the sale of this soap due to an environmentally harmful ingredient. Despite the ban, people in the town become upset and decide to purchase the soap in large quantities before the restriction takes effect. Both examples demonstrate individuals' desire to regain control and freedom by defying imposed limitations.

4.话题发展 The response provides a coherent and well-organized explanation of the concept of reactance, using the examples from the lecture. However, there is room for improvement in terms of clarity and elaboration. It would be helpful to more explicitly connect the examples to the concept of reactance, explaining how each example demonstrates individuals' desire to restore their freedom when they feel it is unfairly limited. Additionally, consider revising some phrases for better clarity, such as "before the robbers go to control" which could be replaced with "before the law went into effect."

Original: Reactance is a phenomenon that individuals feel that their actions are being unfairly limited. They often attempt to restore freedom by directly counteracting. In a lecture, the professor used two examples to explain this phenomenon. When you are a kid, you just want to play in a playground, but your parents don't let you come here anymore, you are very angry, but you still go disrespect your parents' rules. Furthermore, a small town band shop can't sell a soap anymore because it's very harmful to the environment, but the people just want to buy this soap in the end times, so before the robbers go to control, they just buy as much as they can. So this is a true reason to explain what is reactance.

Corrected: Reactance is a phenomenon where individuals feel that their actions are being unfairly limited. They often attempt to restore freedom by directly counteracting opposing (“反抗”更符合原文意思). In a lecture, the professor used two examples to explain this phenomenon. When you are a kid, you just want to play in a playground, but your parents don't let you come here go there (保持一致的指代) anymore, you are very angry, but you still go disrespect despite (“尽管”更符合语境) your parents' rules. Furthermore, a small town band shop banned the sale of a (表达更准确) soap because it's very harmful to the environment, but the people just want to buy this soap in the end times before the ban takes effect (更清晰的表达), so before the robbers go to control, before the law went into effect, (更准确的描述) they just buy as much as they can. So this is a true reason to explain what is reactance.

Revised (140 words): Reactance is a phenomenon where individuals feel that their actions are being unfairly limited, and they often attempt to restore freedom by directly opposing restrictions. In a lecture, the professor used two examples to illustrate this concept. In the first example, when children are forbidden from playing in a playground by their parents, they become angry and still go there despite their parents' rules. In the second example, a small town banned the sale of a soap due to its harmful environmental effects. However, people wanted to buy this soap before the ban took effect, so they purchased as much as they could. These examples demonstrate how individuals react against perceived unfair limitations on their freedom, showcasing the concept of reactance.
