Task Overview

Reading Passage

Reactance  People of all ages generally prefer to have as much freedom as possible in determining their own behavior. When individuals feel that their actions are being unfairly limited, they often attempt to restore the freedom by directly contradicting or opposing the rule or regulation that threatened their freedom Both children and adults demonstrate behaviors that are the results of their urge to restore freedom. This reaction, termed "reactance" by psychologists, comes from an individual's desire to reestablish freedom and control of a situation.

However, there is room for improvement in terms of organization and elaboration. The speaker could have provided a brief introduction to the concept of reactance before diving into the examples, and further explained how each example demonstrates the urge to restore freedom and control. To improve, the speaker should focus on better structuring their response and providing more detailed explanations of the examples.

Original Answer: In the lecture, the professor talks about reactionsreactance(反应应改为反抗). For example, first, imagine you're a kid and you always play in a playground. And one day, sadly, with no reason, you're not allowed to play there anymore. So you think that you want to play in a playground more than before. So you can sneak out, even ignoring your parents' rules. And second example is that, imagine there is a soap that is harmful to the environment. So the store stops selling that in the store. And with this restriction, people start to think that it is their right to buy whatever they like. So they buy a lot of soaps, even than they once before. So these two examples illustrate the concept of reactants.

Corrected Answer: In the lecture, the professor talks about reactionsreactance(反应应改为反抗). For example, first, imagine you're a child who frequently plays at a playground. One day, unexpectedly and without any explanation, you are forbidden from playing there. Consequently, your desire to play at the playground intensifies and you decide to sneak out despite your parents' rules. The second example involves a soap that is harmful to the environment. When stores stop selling it due to its negative impact, people begin to believe it is their right to purchase any product they choose. As a result, they buy more of this soap than they would have under normal circumstances. These two examples effectively illustrate the concept of reactance.

Revised 140-word Answer: In the lecture, the professor discusses reactance by providing two examples. First, imagine being a child who frequently plays at a playground. Suddenly, without any explanation, you are forbidden from playing there. This restriction leads to an increased desire to play at the playground, causing you to sneak out despite your parents' rules. The second example involves a soap that is harmful to the environment. When stores stop selling it due to its negative impact, people begin to believe it is their right to purchase any product they choose. Consequently, they buy more of this soap than they would have under normal circumstances. These two examples effectively illustrate the concept of reactance, demonstrating how individuals attempt to restore their freedom and control when faced with restrictions or limitations on their actions.

The speaker's delivery is generally clear and fluid, but there are some occasional pauses and minor pronunciation issues. To improve, the speaker should practice speaking at a consistent pace and work on pronouncing certain words more accurately. Additionally, focusing on proper punctuation and pausing at appropriate moments will help create a more natural flow in speech.

4.Topic Development The response is coherent and well-organized, with clear connections between ideas and sufficient support or examples. However, there is room for improvement in providing more detailed explanations of the examples given. The speaker should also focus on using more varied vocabulary to better express their ideas. By expanding on the examples and using a wider range of vocabulary, the response will be more engaging and demonstrate a deeper understanding of the concept of reactance.

5.Language Use

Original: If activities are unfairly limited and people would like to restore freedom by opposing to the rule, kids who are restricted from the playground by their parents think they are unfairly treated and they would like to play in the playground even more than before despite the limitation. This also happens among adults. A soup which is banned by the government is harmful for the environment. However, the customers even buy more than what they want because they are obsessed about the regulation and they try to resist to this regulation and desire to reestablish freedom.

Corrected: If activities are unfairly limited and people would like to restore freedom by opposing to opposing (removed unnecessary "to") the rule, kids who are restricted from the playground by their parents think they are unfairly treated and they would like to play in the playground even more than before despite the limitation. This also happens among adults. A soup soap (corrected word for accurate pronunciation) which is banned by the government is harmful for the environment. However, the customers even buy more than what they want because they are obsessed about with (changed preposition for natural flow) the regulation and they try to resist to against (changed preposition for natural flow) this regulation and desire to reestablish freedom.

Revised (140 words): When activities are unjustly restricted, individuals often seek to regain their freedom by opposing such rules. For instance, children who are prohibited from playing at a particular playground by their parents may feel unfairly treated and develop an even stronger desire to play there, despite the imposed limitations. This phenomenon also occurs among adults. For example, when the government bans a specific soap due to its harmful environmental effects, customers may react by purchasing more of the product than they actually need. This behavior stems from their obsession with the imposed regulation and their attempt to resist against it, ultimately aiming to reestablish their sense of freedom. By understanding the concept of reactance, we can better comprehend why people may act in seemingly irrational ways when faced with restrictions on their choices or actions.

原文:Reactors Reactance(反应力应为反应性) is a concept which means when people's action is unfairly limited, they attempt to restore more for their freedom. In the lecture, the professor used the example of children. When the children want to play on a playground and one day their parents don't allow them to go to the playground to play, they will think it's not fair and they want to go to the playground to play even more. They just stick sneak(应为“偷偷溜去”,而非“坚持”) away despite the unallowance prohibition(“不允许”应为“禁止”) of their parents. Secondly, the professor used the example of the selling of soap. The ingredient in the soap is said to be harmful to the environment, so they are not allowed to sell. However, people may think they just want to buy whatever they want to drink use(此处应为“使用”,而非“喝”) , so when they are not allowed, they just buy more soap, more than they need.

修订版(140词):

Reactance is a psychological concept that occurs when people feel their freedom is unfairly restricted, leading them to attempt restoring it. In the lecture, the professor illustrated this with two examples. First, he mentioned children who are suddenly forbidden by their parents from playing at their favorite playground. Feeling that this restriction is unfair, the children become even more determined to play there and may sneak away to do so, defying their parents' prohibition. The second example involved a town banning the sale of a particular soap due to an environmentally harmful ingredient. Despite the ban, people felt they should have the freedom to choose their soap and, as a result, bought even more of the restricted soap before the law took effect. Both examples demonstrate how individuals react against perceived unfair limitations by actively seeking to regain their freedom.
