Task Overview
Reading Passage
Gall Induction Insects have various techniques for obtaining the resources they need for survival, even when these resources are not readily available. Some insects can affect the growth of the plants in their environment through a process known as gall induction . With gall induction, insects are actually able to induce, or cause, plants to develop special structures that grow on the exterior of the plant. These growths, known as galls, are beneficial to the insects while not necessarily harmful to the host plants. They can provide insects with shelter and nourishment that might not otherwise be available.

5.语言使用Original: The reading discusses the concept of goal induction, The reading discusses the concept of gall induction, (原文中的词汇错误,应为gall而非goal) which means that some animals will induce plants to develop special structures at the exterior of the plants. But in listening to the professor's process by giving one example, larvae will secrete some special chemicals on the stems of the oak trees. They can lay eggs on the bark, which looking like an apple. So they can keep them safe from the predators and shelter them from the sun. And also they have little impact on the oak trees because after the larvae grow into adults, they fly away so the apple will just fell down.
Corrected: The reading discusses the concept of gall induction, which means that some insects induce plants to develop special structures on their exterior. In the listening, the professor provides an example of this process: wasp larvae secrete special chemicals on oak tree stems, causing them to form structures resembling apples. These structures protect the larvae from predators and provide shelter from sunlight. Furthermore, this process has minimal impact on oak trees because once the larvae mature into adult wasps, they fly away and the structures eventually fall off.
Revised (140 words): The reading passage introduces gall induction, a process where insects induce plants to develop special exterior structures called galls. These galls provide insects with shelter and nourishment while not being harmful to host plants. In the lecture, an example is given about wasps and oak trees. Wasp larvae secrete special chemicals on oak tree stems that cause cells to grow and form structures resembling apples called oak apples. These oak apples protect wasp larvae from predators and provide shelter from sunlight. As the larvae grow into adult wasps, they feed on the lining of the oak apple. Once they are fully developed, the wasps fly away, leaving the oak apple to dry up and eventually fall off the tree. This process has minimal impact on the oak tree, illustrating the concept of gall induction as explained in the reading passage.
