Task Overview
Reading Passage
Gall Induction Insects have various techniques for obtaining the resources they need for survival, even when these resources are not readily available. Some insects can affect the growth of the plants in their environment through a process known as gall induction . With gall induction, insects are actually able to induce, or cause, plants to develop special structures that grow on the exterior of the plant. These growths, known as galls, are beneficial to the insects while not necessarily harmful to the host plants. They can provide insects with shelter and nourishment that might not otherwise be available.

5.语言使用Original: Shell insects can affect the growth of the plants in the environment through a process called gall induction. This process has no influence on the plants themselves. The professor gave an example of wasps. This type of wasp needs places for the young baby to keep them safe. They often lay eggs on the old tree. When the eggs hatched, the larvae could produce a chemical which led the old trees to grow a type of apple. This is not a real apple, but it can keep them safe from the predator and keep them from the summer heat. When the young grow up, they just fly away and the process has little impact on the tree itself.

最后,原文中的“old tree”和“apple”分别应改为“oak trees”和“gall called an oak apple”,以更准确地描述这一现象。)
Revised (140 words): Gall-inducing insects can affect the growth of plants in their environment through a process called gall induction, which has no harmful effect on the plants themselves. The professor provided an example of wasps that need a place for their young offspring to stay safe. These wasps often lay eggs on oak trees. When the eggs hatch, the larvae produce a chemical that causes the oak trees to grow a gall called an oak apple. Although not a real apple, it serves as a protective shelter for the larvae, keeping them safe from predators and shielding them from summer heat. As the young wasps mature, they eventually fly away, leaving minimal impact on the tree itself. This example demonstrates how gall induction benefits insects while causing little harm to host plants.
