Task Overview
Reading Passage
Photoperiodic Response Plants undergo various processes related to growth and survival, and these processes may be infuenced by factors in the environment. One such factor is the number of hours of daylight a plant is ex- posed to, and a change in this number can initiate an important internal process within certain plants. This initiation of an internal process is called photoperiodic response. A photoperiodic response generally occurs when a plant senses that the number of daylight hours is increasing or decreasing and has passed a threshold or critical point. The resulting process often helps plant survive an upcoming change in its environment.

5.语言使用Original Answer: amount of daylight the plants exposed to change. The amount of daylight to which plants are exposed changes. (将句子改为完整的陈述句,使用正确的介词和时态。) It will initiate internal change in the plants. This will initiate an internal change within the plants. (使用更自然的表达方式,并添加定冠词。) The professor uses an example to explain the concept. When the day is long in summer, there is normal amount a normal amount (添加定冠词。) of water in the tree. They are well hydrated. But when the day gets shorter, the darkness is increasing. The plants will sense the shift and dry out their water in their bodies. It will contain less water. Because when the temperature gets colder, the water in them will freeze, which is a damage to them. So to avoid the phenomenon, it's probably better to keep the plants water.
Revised Answer (140 words): The amount of daylight to which plants are exposed changes, initiating an internal change within the plants. The professor illustrates this concept with an example of trees in temperate climates. During long summer days, trees have a normal amount of water and are well-hydrated. However, as days get shorter and darkness increases, trees sense this shift and begin to dehydrate their cells, reducing their water content. This adaptation is crucial for their survival because when temperatures drop during winter months, any remaining water in their cells could freeze, causing significant damage. By dehydrating their cells and reducing water content, trees can effectively avoid this potential harm and successfully endure the cold winter months.
