Dominance Hierarchy Many animal species live together in social groups, and members are likely to compete for resources, such as food or mates. For this reason, members of the group interact to create a dominance hierarchy, where each animal has a rank relative to the others. Animals have access to resources based on their place in the hierarchy, with the most dominant or highest-ranked individual having the most access. However, the hierarchy might not be permanent because the rank of individual animals can change and become higher or lower over time.

23. 3.Delivery
The speaker's delivery is generally clear and fluid, with a consistent pace and only occasional pauses. However, there are some areas where the speech could be improved. For example, the speaker could work on using more natural transitions between sentences and ideas to make the speech flow more smoothly. Additionally, the speaker should focus on pronouncing certain words more accurately to avoid confusion.
4.Topic Development The response is coherent and well-organized, with clear connections between ideas and sufficient support or examples from both the reading and listening passages. However, there is room for improvement in terms of providing more specific details from the lecture to further illustrate the concept of dominance hierarchy. The speaker could also work on refining their explanation of how the red deer example relates to the overall concept of dominance hierarchy in animal social groups.

Revised (140 words): The reading discusses the dominance hierarchy, which refers to each animal member within social groups having a rank relative to others. In the lecture, the professor provides an example of red deer that live in groups and establish a dominance hierarchy. The male deer within these groups compete for access to female deer by using their antlers as weapons during fights. However, males with smaller antlers avoid fighting those with larger ones. Consequently, deer with larger antlers have greater access to females. During winter, male deer lose their antlers at different times; those who still have them maintain a higher status. In contrast, females show no interest in males that have lost their antlers, temporarily lowering their rank within the hierarchy.
