Task Overview
Reading Passage
appeasement behaviors Many animals live in social groups, and certain animals may be stronger or more powerful than other animals in the group. Since a weaker animal could be injured in a fight with a stronger animal, many animals use appeasement behaviors to avoid fighting with stronger animals. By performing appeasement behaviors, a weaker animal communicates that it does not want to flight, and is willing to submit to the more powerful individual. Because fights can be harmful to members of a group, appeasement behaviors benefit the group by preventing fights from occurring.

5.语言使用Original: The reading passage talks about a policeman's behavior. The concept of appeasement behaviors (原文中没有提到警察行为,应改为“缓和行为”的概念) means that a weaker animal communicates that it does not want to fight and is willing to submit to a more powerful individual. The professor takes wolves for example. Wolves live in packs and hunt, prey, and share food together (删除重复的“prey”并将句子结构调整为更自然的表达). Sometimes bigger wolves want to get food from another smaller member of the pack. The bigger wolves will threaten to attack smaller wolves, seeing that smaller wolves will lower their heads and flatten their fur, which signs are signs (改为正确的语法结构) that smaller wolves will give in. As a result, the bigger wolf will let them go without any hurt or trouble.
Revised (140 words): The concept of appeasement behaviors, as discussed in the reading passage, refers to a weaker animal communicating its unwillingness to fight and its submission to a more powerful individual. The professor provides an example of this behavior among wolves. Wolves live in packs, hunting and sharing food together. Occasionally, larger wolves may attempt to take food from smaller pack members. In response to the threat of attack from the larger wolf, the smaller wolf exhibits appeasement behaviors by lowering its head and flattening its fur. These actions serve as signs of submission, indicating that the smaller wolf is willing to give in. Consequently, the larger wolf allows the smaller wolf to leave without causing any harm or conflict, illustrating the concept of appeasement behaviors effectively.
