Task Overview
Reading Passage
University Should Allow Students to Audit Classes Many universities allow students to audit classes. That is, students may attend lectures and discussions for a particular class without completing the assignments, receiving a grade, or earning credit for the class. I think our university should also allow this. Auditing classes would be good for interested students, since they would be able to learn more and experience a variety of different classes that they would not otherwise be able to take. Furthermore, it shouldn't create any difficulties or additional obligations for professors, because these students wouldn't take tests or write papers that need to be graded. Sincerely, Samuel Stuart

5.语言使用Original: The student suggests that the university should allow students to audit classes, because this can bring benefits to students and also this will not create any difficulties for the professors. The woman in the conversation disagrees with the idea. First, she thinks that it will not be good for students who really take classes and spend lots of time on those readings. Because all these people will not prepare the classes that well and this will lead to low-quality in-class discussions, because they may ask basic questions to the professor that are already covered in the reading sessions. And second, she points out that there are other small things that will add up, like professors need to prepare extra handouts and remember extra names and spend extra time to answer students' questions. This really affects professor's attention.

Revised (140 words): The student suggests that the university should allow students to attend classes, as it can bring benefits to students and will not create any difficulties for the professors. The woman in the conversation disagrees with this idea. Firstly, she believes it would not be beneficial for students who are enrolled in classes and invest significant time in their readings. This is because unprepared attendees might lead to low-quality in-class discussions, as they may ask basic questions already covered in the reading sessions. Secondly, she points out that there are other minor factors that accumulate, such as professors needing to prepare additional handouts, memorize extra names, and spend more time answering students' questions. These factors ultimately affect the professor's attention and overall class quality.
